Studios were in better shape back in 94 then now. For the record, a million in 94 would be 2.1 now. Still a tiny budget for a movie (imo) Hollywood definitely overspends. Just look what Tojo was able to do with 20mill (Godzilla Minus One) compared to what Hollywood does with 20mill. I look at studios releasing huge turds, the same way as new parents telling everyone their ugly newborn is beautiful. They are just too close to see the truth.

Ehh, guess we disagree on what is a lot of money to a studio. To me - a studio only dropping 1 million on a movie says it has no expectations and would be able to recoup that money regardless. Dropping 80 million to make a movie to me says they have expectations of it being successful. Which imo is why they continued pumping money into it even. For an example of a studio dropping money and realizing it was a mistake, just look at Batgirl. Once they realized the mess they had, they didn’t spend one more dime and shelved it. Hoping to recoup some of it in tax write offs.

The Corman film was only made to keep the rights, with no plans to release. It’s budget was 1mill. Huge difference between that and Madame Web. Unfortunately you may be right about Cap 4 - sounds like they are reshooting damn near the whole movie after seeing it. I was honestly interested in Madame Web when it was announced. Despite the first trailer, I was still planning on seeing it. Then I heard why it was bad…

Thought you might be a troll - now I know it. I said you had to add in advertising cost and that the total estimate to break even was 200mill Then I used the word “usually” to estimate the costs. If you want to believe this movie is a success - go right ahead. I don’t feed trolls, so you and I are done.

Any other tactic is soft, and weak 😀

The best technique is to send one player to knock on the front door while half your team simultaneously fights all the mobs around the stairs, and the other half of your team stands in a safe spot discussing strategy.

You have to take everything into account when determining break even on a movie. Theaters get around 50% of ticket sales. Plus marketing usually falls around 1.5-2x budget. All estimates I’ve seen said they need 200-225mill in ticket sales to break even on this movie. Gotta add in promotions/advertising- estimated break even is 200mill theatrically and yes, Sony still does physical media - but that will just add to the break even total
-
Cost 236mill to make plus another 200mill in advertising. Worldwide gross of 402mill. 0 Oscars.

Because they believed they had a hit Happens all the time. Marvel thought The Eternals was going to win them all kinds of awards and set the new standard for superhero movies - how’d that work out?
-
Yes - a studio doesn’t spend almost 200mill on a throwaway movie. They do it on a movie they believe will make them money. They also don’t heavily promote a movie that think will bomb. They quietly release them without wasting tons on advertising, or sell them to streaming services in order to recoup some of the money.
-
Really? They thought it was good and that the audience would come out in droves to support it
-
Sort of, yes and no. They do have to make a movie every 5 years - so there is no reason to rush out junk like Madame Web. The next movie is Kraven, which does not look as if it’s going to make stacks of anything (could be wrong - just going by the look of the trailer). If this movie was really just fodder, they wouldn’t have spent so much on it nor would they have spent so much on marketing. No, they had hope. The real truth is Sony has been chasing after Avengers money. They originally said that they wanted their own spiderverse to accomplish this - which is not working.

Geez 6mill for the 2nd weekend. This thing may not even break 50mill total

@ThaOGDreamWeaver I think you may be on to something. This movie is a huge bomb, and I bet people will be curious as to the why/how Sony should put together a documentary about it and recoup some of their losses.

As more info is starting to come out, I’m even more confused as to how this was approved to be made According to one of the actresses - this was an origin story, which is why you didn’t get to see the characters in costume or using their powers (for more than a minute or two, total) Now the writer/Director says - this was a different type of origin story where there was no need to show their origin or how they got their powers Mmkay.

You’d think - but I’ve run plenty of ITFs with teammates who would have been in a world of hurt if someone on the team didn’t have something to help with end issues. Ive a feeling some people build with the hopes that there will always be a teammate capable of “hiding” their weaknesses

Believe it will be the 2015 version.

Soooo, does this mean you guys are out on Avengers: Secret Wars??

I gotcha I think Civil War was a great example of the MCU telling a bigger story You had Avengers 2 with Tony creating Ultron. By the end, everything was good, but the groundwork has been set. Then came Civl War and the difference in philosophy between Tony/Steve, which was partly caused by Tony during Avengers 2. By the end, the Avengers were fractured. Then we got Avengers 3. Looking back, you have to wonder would Thanos have been successful if the Avengers faced him as a unit, instead of 2 separate teams. We sort of got the answer in Endgame. Too me, Civil War was a great movie and a vital part in bridging the story between 2 and 3. It took Tony/Steve from a disagreement to a full blown war - which helped keep both sides from looking like spoiled children in part 3 I know. Kinda rambling, but I’ve been a lifelong Marvel fan and phases 1-3 were dreams come true for me
