  1. I don’t play very much 50+ content. Tend to use my 50s to farm INF, so I’ll jump on to teams at just about any level range. Tend to play blasters and melee characters, with most of them being Tech origin because the store is close in Talos, and that’s where I may start buying enhances (assuming I don’t go with IOs or some of the cheaper sets). Hardly ever roll pure support, and seldom grab a tank. I like to have increased movement, enough where I don’t have to have something toggled on to keep up with a group. Also helps when it’s time to retrograde. As a blaster, I move around a lot when settling up cones. There’s an art to it. I almost always have “bail out” powers in the form of grenades, and the plasmatic Taser. You can sometimes knock everything away from you to get a chance to run or recover, especially early to mid game. I almost always buy the small jet pack for my non-fliers. I don’t like hovering. Even if I have it, I tend to ignore it (unless it’s a must for the situation). It’s not smart, I know, but I don’t care. Scooting along with my arms dangling down seems freaky. I am currently a bit fed up with seeing nothing but Council on radio teams. I’d rather take on Arachnos any day, or anything that might take us off autopilot. I like to chat on teams, and enjoy wit/humor.
  2. Run every Srike/0Task Force solo, at the appropriate level (no flashbacks). Run the signature story arcs, too. Run them all with a support toon. or: solo regular content with the switches turned all the way up. Make sure this is the case when you take on Calvin Scott in the Marchand arc. Or when you bull your way up Duray’s weapon’s platform. Heck, Veles might even hand your rear to you in Blue Steel,s arc. Oh, and don’t use any inspirations. Should present something of a challenge then. (it’s pretty easy to make the game brutal, if you want)
  3. I feel like the thread title is inaccurate. Feels like the OP is saying, "I don't get why you guys like CoH so much." Evidently, many of us are just plain insane since CO is "objectively superior" in so many ways. 🙁
  4. Thanks, Yomo. You made my new toon's day.:-)
  5. Because when I played CO extensively, it was a lonely experience. Hard to get teams. All in all, it just wasn’t very social. On CoH, even if I’m running solo, I can have the LFG and zone chat on to watch what others are up to. Teams tend to be friendly and casual and tolerant. I’ve made some hew friends thanks to CoH. My long stint on CO never got me any of that. its never been about the nuts and bolts of the game. It’s the feel of it, and the people.
  6. Double XP has mostly killed the low level arcs. If you want Wincott, Flux, Julius, Talshak, you simply have to be on normal XP gain, and hardly anyone is when they run lowbies. I just ran all these arcs yesterday, but solo, of course. I also ran the KR banks because I had to level up to run the last 2. Teams abound. Just not content teams. You have to advertise and recruit those yourself, usually. On Excelsior, you can easily get an FF team together, though many will be exemplared down for it. People like Frostfire. There are still radio teams in certain zones. What I see more of, however, is skipping the bank missions. I have one toon who’s ran them all, and I had to solo all of them them to get them.
  7. That’s a terrible experience. I have 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I know how I would feel if that happened to any of them. Unfortunately, we can’t reach through the screen and teach people some manners. It’s the unfortunate by-product of our online interactions. The good news is that stupid meme will go away. That said, I am hoping your daughter doesn’t give those bullies the satisfaction of quitting. In the meantime—and I’m sure you thought of this already—maybe try one of the other servers? Better yet, if you need a wingman posse for some backup if that stuff starts again, I’d be happy to serve as one of your recruits. We can’t really kick a**, but we can certainly take names and report these idiots. My globals are @cranebump and @cranebump2. Let me know if I can help in any way. And tell Karen to hang in there. She’s got supporters she hasn’t met yet. (P.S. I run on excelsior and everlasting, but if Team Karen is forming on Torch, signal me, and i’ll Be there. For now, best wishes, and, on behalf of the overwhelming majority of good people in the CoH community, know that we stand with you.)
  8. I’d like access to the limited #/uses powers in a single pool called, I dunno, “weaponry.” Revolver, grenades (regular and stun), bat, throwing knives. I’ll snag these sometimes for solo toons. Realize I can just buy them, but the ability to slot that stuff might be interesting. If not that, the “pistol”pool sounds fun. Realize we have dual pistols, but a single weapon would be a nice option. Or something like the experimental blaster from Champions Online. Instead of chem/ice/fire a la DP, maybe it could have focused sonic/energy/elec options.
  9. A blaster with the devices secondary, since a lot of Devices can be skipped. I have a Guns/Dev blaster who’s got 3 of the set. It’s mainly conceptual, but, if I were to go full-on blapper, I think it might result in some interesting utility, what with the usual blasting, plus Field Operative (stealth), targeting drone, and gun drone. I agree with a previously poster that using a weaponless primary would probably be preferable. I remember trying to fold fighting in with a staff character, and being annoyed with having to rearm the staff when I switched. Anyway, the main thing I find about having boxing on my guns toon isn’t that I don’t use much melee at all on teams. I might activate a boxIng strike to throw disorient on a troublesome target,
  10. PB/WS and MMS.(I wish I could create a playable character just using the Whip powers though). I also don’t play any buffers where you have to monitor and target individuals (shields, kins). Lazy playstyle, I guess.
  11. Give MA the Shuriken attack from the assault set.
  12. I didn’t know they had less “kicky” MA animations until this week. That’s what kept me from running one. Went out and rolled up an MA right after that.
  13. The Row. It’s got a gritty feel to it. It’s the Hell’s Kitchen of Paragon City.
  14. This is one reason why I turn the General channel off, and stick Help in a different tab. It can get...noisy sometimes. Also: “good” and “bad” are subjective terms. Not everyone is here to powergame (so let’s not slam someone for not playing the 7,051st spines/fire brute). What’s good might just be what’s fun, or what fits the concept. Now, if someone specifically asks for an opinion, well, all bets are off. They’ll get one (or two...or three...or...). I do agree that we all should show basic manners in our interactions. And, for the most part, people really do. Haven’t met many who do not. Then again, I stay away from build discussions, so...that may be it.:-)
  15. My suggestion is cosmetic. The set is very "kicky." I think I'd like options to change some animations to punches. Then again, I could just play Street Justice, I suppose.:-)
  16. I do not think you can do much with custom groups’ animations at all. The only movement you can select, basically, is to fly or not to fly (though costume selections, such as rocket boots and wings, will affect the look of flight).
  17. I dunno which is the worst, but I’ve probably played it.:-)
  18. Can't you just use the "Teleport to Contact" function, if you want to proceed into missions without using the broker? Then those contacts can direct you to other contacts. Assuming I'm correct about the TP part. And then there's the flashback system, as well.
  19. Well, I am now convinced to play redside exclusively on my next toon.:-)
  20. Heroes are usually serving someone else’s agenda, as well. But that’s the expectation. You’re there to serve others. As for Redside, considering you get to break stuff, rob banks, off people in missions, I think the selfish douche baggery quotient is fairly high. People have already mentioned Tip missions as a way to fill the more “gray” void between. Another thing about being a vill: I thought you also also got a shot at taking out your patron, but it’s been a long time since I ran redside past lvl 30 or so.
  21. I miss running in SG mode to gain currency for my Old SGs. I liked joining groups that had awesome base builders. I liked it when “my SG is calling” actually meant something. It’s all good the way it is now, but I still miss those things.
  22. Agreed. Or, conversely, ignore the builds and have fun (but don’t preach to others that they’re “doing it wrong” just because it seems easier). Reminds me of D&D edition wars. There’s no right way to play. Just try to enjoy it.
  23. Bane Spider Rubens arc, where you lead that massive group of villains into that LB base isn’t simply awesome. It’s epic. You’re definitely not a lackey there. Outside playing that one capstone story mish as Cole/tyrant curb stomping Recluse’s invasion force solo, that’s about as badarse as I’ve ever felt in the game due to a story arc.
  24. Just reread the post. If you want unusual, may I suggest Traps.Psi Def, resistance (crusader) because no one plays that combo...
