  1. Look at your UI. It's a grey world out there. In more seriousness, you have the choice to be heavily under cover or openly for a faction. You can be a b****** for either groups because both groups are filled and led by horrible people. You can be a person who is fighting despite all those horrible people on either side.
  2. Interestingly, all of my characters had a backstory, and some of them were quite intricate, but almost none of them were really reflected in the in-game bio. As a roleplayer, the view of me (and a number of others) was that, just like your character name, ui-world, wasn't floating above your head, so your bio and history were not available to just any rando that happened by (how would anyone know?) There was some leeway, of course, and always room for pithy quotes and snippits of hilarity, but full bios were for wiki pages, and forum fiction. Don't you have a phone? I kid. I kid. But only partially. It is not hard to view the ID page as a page brought up by the in-universe hero/villain equivalent to Google Glasses. It presents all the data your character is going to give up to a random passer-by. If they want more, then you can wiki it up outside the client.
  3. If you want a solo MMO go play Black Dessert Online. But I can say from personal experience, it's boring and very dull. It gets very old, very fast, and incentivizing 'solo play' would kill almost all 'team play' making almost every team activity impossible to start, or even do. Look at Champions Online for an example of that. It did just what you are talking about and it's now a dead, or dying game. Conversely, overly group-oriented can just as easily kill a game, as it helped to do to Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (along with other technical issues). Aside from a few Archetype's Powerset Combinations, however, City of Heroes is not quite as solo-unfriendly as Vanguard, nor does it need the buff to the xp rate that Eldriyth called for. It would be nice for those who tend to not be as sociable as others to have that buff, but it really isn't needed. In hero stories, there are those who only group up in rare times, focusing more on their own stories than the world's troubles. Others are dedicated to their teams and are rarely found working alone. Even with those xp buffs, though, CoH would hardly be as solo-friendly as WoW: BfA or Black Desert Online. The mechanics have not changed as they have for WoW, nor is it a modern game ala BDO, and THAT is what makes a game solo-friendly or group-centric. One of the aspects I love about CoH, is that one can always choose which path to take, and even change their mind on a session basis, and it's okay. Tankers can take forever to kill mobs, but they are better at surviving (and keeping the attention of) the packs that Blasters and Scrappers tend to fall to, as one example. Yet those Tankers don't NEED the BLasters and Scrappers to take down their foes, in most cases.
  4. How close do you need? Either way, you need to use the Way Back Machine to find them. Here's a quick link to start from, starting at Sept 4, 2012: https://web.archive.org/web/20120904100456/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/index.php
  5. Brutes are similar in that regard due to the Rage mechanic. It's always rough when people want to stand around while your Rage is running low.
  6. Or people who understand how the system works over all. Grinding NPCs is the slowest way to progress in the game. As has been explained numerous times already, the kill-stealing that happens in other (usually OLDER) games simply does not happen here and hasn't happened in literally so long that wasting electrons and blood pressure complaining about it is a non-issue from a mechanics point of view. You're so far better off completing Missions, which means hitting those Contacts, the Radio, etc., that this doesn't even register as a proper complaint on gameplay-only point of view. If you're RPing that your character only does things in the surface world, then either a: you should be thankful for another hero's help, or b: secretly plotting revenge against the a-hole who snicked a piece of your victim. Either way, you wouldn't be complaining here. None of these options fit the bill of venting a spleen over something so meaningless.
  7. Aren't there many more story and TF options on the Hero side? That and since the Hero-side came out first, a lot of people (including myself) are recreating their old mains who were Heros more often than not.
  8. Are the costume missions worth anything at this point?
  9. It's called IC/OOC boundaries. Griefing other PLAYERS is not roleplaying. It's being a jerk. Read the line you quoted again and think about what you said really carefully. Also consider the many other factors involved in the CoX engine which makes kill "stealing" a non-issue.
  10. While this specific matter is nearly universally agreed to be a non-issue with only a few standouts who make a big deal of it, this comment right here is troubling. Why should you care about it? Because I should hope OOC you're NOT a villain. Please don't use RP to justify being a jerk to other PLAYERS. It's not cool at all and only gives the real RPers a bad image. So, those of an Evil alignment should not play their characters as if they had an Evil alignment? The very concept is baffiling.
  11. Pfft! Sidekicked? I'll be leading them. The trick will to have the settings just right so that you make the requisite level for the next TF but don't have excessive wipes. It's called, "Positron won't even TALK to you about a TF until you are 10". Hard to lead a Task Force when the originator won't even talk to you about it, right? Currently 8. Sorry, going by ParagonWiki, which is Issue 24. Still, 8, 10, same response if you're level 1.
  12. His voice takes me back to my childhood and listening to him narrate Spider-man and His Amazing Friends on Saturday mornings.

  14. They are also in the tutorial maps as well. AP has it to the left of Ms Liberty, as you are facing her and city hall together, around the corner of the Atlas statue base. On Mercy, face the first arbiter and Kalinda, turn around to the right and go up next to the "helicopter", you'll see her on the way. Praetoria, face Praetor Duncan and White, and she'll be the first vendor on your left going round the circle.
  15. You could also use Null to change Sides and do the Villain Equivalents. Hard part is getting someone to carry you through the TFs till you don't have to Sidekick any more.
  16. Spiderman is hardly the only hero to travel by such a method, nor does Marvel (which grants Disney) have sole copyright to such a technique. If so, Champions Online would never have made it this long. Cheers, didn't play much of CO (only as a froob), so I guess it's a possibility...? Don't kill the dream mate! ;) Not trying to kill it. Just saying that Disney has better targets to go after right now than a private server of an otherwise defunct game. So, quite the opposite of killing the dream. The issue is the programming of such, not the legalities.
  17. I don't know about Gravity BLAST, but I'm pretty sure I put a Gravity Armor, and possibly a Gravity Melee in Lady_Jade's archived thread. I'll see if I can track it down.
  18. I am still in mourning of several losses, even the Reverse Snap will not bring the iconic voice that is this world's name back. ... And a proper board to post a server message in.
  19. Some of the Lost options would be interesting. They definitely have that post-apocalyptic mutant scheme to them. The problem is getting the permissions for such mods to affect other people. Even if I managed to convince my local client to project the television helmet on my character, I'd be the only one who saw it. If pushed those visuals in to another head piece's slot, then I'd see it on THEM, too. Blizzard banned people who modded their own local client to adjust visuals to suit their preferences. Of course, part of this led to some extreme cheating opportunities like skipping 95% of a raid, so that is where most of the problem lies along with a lot of PvP annoyances. So, it wouldn't be an avenue I would pursue.

  21. There's more than one type of Clockwork... And there is the most sincere form of flattery.
  22. I'd have to agree, make what you want and run them up to 10. If you don't like what you've dealt with at that point, drop it or change it so you do.
  23. For those few toons that I bothered to write bios for, I remember them, so can restore them rather easily. Oddly enough, I was finding running Stone Armor stodgy and have since remembered that I like being able to move in a fight from the intervening years on WoW (Druid, Monk, Demon Hunter, and Death Knight being my favorite characters). So I took my main that I had been running Stone Armor/Electrical Melee and rebuilt him as a Shield/Stone Melee Tanker, emailing everything out to be taken by the new build. I then took the bio and laid it as this new character being the old one's nephew who had recently gained similar powers recently and remembered his uncle who disappeared like a snap with all the other heroes and villains seven years ago, so he's taking up the mantle in honor of his uncle. Some of the costume design is different, but I kept a couple things that I felt were iconic to the original. Have to say, I like having done that change.
  24. I have a few on Lady_Jade's Power Suggestion Thread. The one I remember best is Cartoon Melee. A Feather, a Hammer, and and Anvil were 3 of the Power Pool's 4 powers.
  25. To say nothing about expanding the Praetorian options.
