Oh God! Shamans lost their underwear

Yeah, it's pretty breezy in Paragon City! @Lines Nothing. I just wanted to pull you back in because I'm sometimes a jerk like that. -

Where I come from, the saying is "If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features." I... may have surrounded myself with software engineers. -
Hmm, I just realized I may be imagining something different than everyone else. I was thinking literally, all the powers are the same, and you're just trading out Energy for, say, Fire damage or Psi damage. Trading out Negative energy for Cold or Toxic. Maybe some adjustments to some secondary effects. Emphasis on "some." But yeah, I'm all for different forms to go along with it. I'd love to see Kheldians expanded out into some more generic shapeshifter forms (even if just a list of 4 "heavy" models and 4 "flier" models -- it'd be a start!), and what @biostemis saying about remembering other forms could be a cool justification for it.

Just discovered all the Banished Pantheons do not wear underpants under their cute little loincloths. I am not posting any pictures. 15 years after fighting my first Shaman, I only now noticed. I'm sure most of you did. But if not... Sorry.

Fix for endurance issues on low level
Replacement replied to Darkneblade's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I feel like this entire post is missing my point and devolving into pedantry. Thanks for the advice, but it doesn't help the people who are not in this thread. The people who are out there actually trying to enjoy the game, which means not playing the boring market, or -ugh- crafting. And those same people see DOs and think "what a waste of my meager influence. I should wait until 22." (Or more realistically? 47 -- I'm serious) I'm not making it a 1-way street, as you say. I'm just saying: "telling the OP over and over again that either they don't know how to play or that suffering=good isn't very helpful to people who don't like it." I've said my point enough times, and provided the solution I think makes more sense. I'm done, here. Catch you in the next thread. -
Like the evil Mastermind Boyscout I am, I have performed Necromancy instead of creating a new thread: Please put a spot on your plate for alternate taunts. The Female Jungle Scream on my latest Tanker is bricking several necessary components of my soul. It's awful.

Will we ever see the new things that Cake is getting?
Replacement replied to Soloshot360's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely true. Of the players. But I'm speaking about the "management" so to speak. The people running the server I mentioned - the people in charge who everyone else looks to - they are the ones with the caustic attitudes. And I've seen Cypher in those very threads being patient and explanatory, never a harsh word issued back. MY reason for choosing Homecoming is that simple point of comparison. I personally may be a piece of shit that lashes out emotionally, but the HC staff has class, and they back up those words with their actions. I can't say the same for the leadership of that server. NOTE: Rebirth, et al, seem to be pretty cool folk. I only have the one set of issues.- 122 replies

Not to point fingers... (but I'm absolutely about to start pointing) -- I've watched the CoXG patch notes, and I've read a lot of their dev and administrative posts on Reddit and... Every single one of those posts spits venom at Homecoming. They have even stated they intentionally occlude how they did things because they believe others will steal them (and then cast aspersions towards HC, etc etc). They get hacked? Immediately assume it has to do with Homecoming. There's an exploit in Tequila that doesn't matter (seriously, a malicious manifest already has this power), scream that HC knew about it for years! You want to get folks to work together? The best place to start is calling out those fearmongerers who can't go even a single post without shitting in the community well. Somehow, when they throw this shade, people listen, and now no one trusts anyone. It's Peak Stupid.- 122 replies

Fix for endurance issues on low level
Replacement replied to Darkneblade's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yeah, that's where I have to stop. I'm sure you don't want to be subjected to my rant on Artificial Difficulty vs Difficulty (I loved Demon's Souls gameplay but the playerbase' inability to draw a distinction between these 2 concepts has created a parade of Awful in the "souls-like" sub-genre and oh look, there I go ranting again). Suffice to say, I don't want inherent endurance, but I sure could go for a pick-me-up in the late teens. A Prestige Endurance IO at the P2W could also work. EDIT: but I still think SOs should be available at 17. This isn't the only issue it would resolve. -
Can someone explain to me, without a wall of text, why this would go against fiction of Khelds? I mean, if Kheldians are what gave us the basis for people turning into wolves, and we're already in a Kitchen Sink world of magic and aliens... why would it be lore-breaking to have a Peacebringer whose energy is more like sunlight (burns) and a Warshade whose "shadowy" powers saps energy (cold damage)? What is so specific to Kheld lore that makes it so their beams have to deal energy damage instead of psy damage? I don't know how you'd do this mechanically (sidenote: these powers are all already customizable, right? So I don't think we really need any new art assets... maybe some new default energy colors). I cannot imagine there's anything in the fiction strong enough to shoot this down, but by all means, I'm keeping an open mind to any arguments.

@SwitchFade and @The Philotic Knight -- you are really reinforcing my point, here. Your opinions don't feel reflective of the majority of players, to me. PK, you actually suggested Resting after every fight as a reason to /jranger. If that isn't the epitome of Dark Souls Masochism, I don't know what is. Like I said, I don't really like the OP's solution, but I'm just saying: these responses aren't realistic. I've actually done the work of fully outfitting a character in DOs at level 17, and melees and toggle-heavy Support toons still suck at these levels. That said, I should probably put down a point of clarification: I actually think levels 1-15 or so are perfect, as are 22+ if you take the time to drop in some basic IOs. Everything falls apart as you cross that gap from 15 to 22, and the loss of "beginner's luck" (accuracy bonus all toons receive that dwindles, iirc, until disappearing completely at 20) right in that time certainly makes matters worse. -

The responses of this thread feel totally disjointed with the reality of actually playing the game (particularly if you don't DFB/AE). I don't really like the OP suggestion for how to fix it, but all these responses are either "you should enjoy the suck and be happy about it" or "I don't have these problems because reasons." They aren't helpful to someone leveling "classically." My preferred fix is still to see SOs lowered to level 20 (purchasable from NPCs at 17). That would fix a lot of early game frustrations for folks running the old story arcs for levels, as well as give SOs a purpose again. -

3 second speed boost + 6 second lockout? (like psionic melee; you gain an empty 'debuff' that simply prevents you from reacquiring the speed buff) HISS! (I am so blind) -

* I do not like the cottage rule argument if the replacement proposal comes with a promise that you can grab a better version of Confront from a Power Pool. * "Zippy" Scrappers -- valid, but wolverine lunges; why can't I? I think just about every comic book Scrapper is mobile, even if they aren't speedsters. Moreover, you can continue to skip it and be unaffected (because the statistics say you're not taking it now). * Spring attack ("Choose a pool power if you want it" response) -- Along with some other Confront buff (see next bullet point), I would be good with this if it were at all viable. Requires 3 powers and has a 2 minute cooldown. Now if we got that Teleport Pool rework, maybe we'd be getting somewhere, though it still doesn't open up as many aesthetic options. *Scrappers have a power that is not part of their job description (especially since Going Rogue said Your 2nd Pick for Tank is Over There). This is why Sacredlunatic suggested a universal swap-in: at least it's in-line with doing what you've been invited to do. Even if Spring Attack/Teleport pool were made viable, it wouldn't resolve the fact that Confront is largely a waste of space. * @Lazarillo, just clarifying; not trying to change your mind: when I say "buff Provoke to be appealing even to folks running Confront+Provoke right now" I would remove the accuracy check as Step 1, and I wouldn't stop there. I had forgotten it was aoe, though. Mystic Flight treatment would be interesting, as someone above mentioned (50' range for the aoe version, 70' for the ST version) So maybe back to my barebones low-impact version I outlined in the other thread: Using Confront gives the Scrapper a 3 second move speed boost, in addition to all the things it currently does. Works, doesn't ruin anyone's fiction (because, again, you're not taking Confront right now anyway), but is way less interesting. EDIT: I'd also be interested to know just how many of those Scrappers that are taking Confront are doing so for IOs. -

I'm glad we're making progress and have edged off the hostility. That said, I do want to point you to this bit I said previously: Not faulting you if you missed it -- it's in the middle of a lot of text. But curious to know if that would ease your mind at all. My thoughts are that Provoke should be as good as a current Provoke+Confront. Bias announcement: I think all power pool powers, including the t1s, should actually be good. So obviously, this makes Provoke actually good and I'm sure that doesn't sit well with some folk. -

Just wanted to mention, this is the sort of feedback I was hoping to see a lot more of in this thread. This is a really good point. @Lazarillo Good to see we agree: Confront needs buffs. You don't like the particular direction of this proposal, and that's fine. -

Replacement replied to Wavicle's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I don't think... it's fine. I can be nice. A "trap" is a power that only a "noob" will pick.* Anyone who has played the game long enough to experience a Tanker in action will understand how insurmountable a task it is to make Confront worthwhile. This means they now have 8 "real" choices. There's nothing ironic about this. Most of us want our characters to be good (and if your fiction requires them to suck, I suggest not using enhancements). Less "real" choices means less build diversity. *In CoH, this, sadly, also hits RPers and others who enjoy concept-characters (this is the camp I fall into -- I won't RP in Local chat, but I have ideas, backgrounds, and even character themes in my head. I do not like to be punished for this). I'm simultaneously delighted our community is capable of this and dismayed they have to wade through poor choices to realize their concepts. If we can do better, we should. -

So you're saying "it's ok for Confront to suck so I don't have to make decisions and can keep my cookie cutter build." Gotcha. Do we really need to play this "hyperbolize you into the bad guy" game? 9 powers = 9 choices. 8 powers and a trap = 8 choices. 9 > 8. More choices; less cookie-cutters. EDIT: I slightly misread you. My point stands, but I acknowledge you were being intentionally hyperbolic so sorry for taking the bait so hard. -

Errrrr you don't see that Scrappers only have 8 primary powers to choose from and one trap for Roleplay characters? Nothing is "necessary" -- it's an old video game that's already been declared legally dead once. But as far as "bad game design principles to fix" -- yeah, this one ranks pretty high. -

@Lazarillo and @SwitchFade I apologize for being a bit heavy-handed on the aggression (I tend to edit my posts back down to reality, but that's hard when you're actively posting). You both voted Nope. That's fine. We're done; no reason to get carried away in the meta-conversation (we're now talking about talking instead of the actual subject). As for why 2 threads? It's simple: that thread was a discussion; this one is a proposal. @sacredlunatic Don't apologize for it. If you hadn't, I was going to. -

This is how discussion works: Multiple people discuss an overarching problem. If a few people feel there is an interesting sidepath to take it, they start their own discussion instead of derailing the initial one. Please revive that thread, which is only a week old, with how you feel about Confront, which will require you to confront (snicker) the issues laid out there already. I'm not trying to be an ass. But @sacredlunatic et al already went over this and you are ignoring it by jumping in here. -

The Savage melee teleport is a perfect example of a power that's conceptually a dash. I like this idea, 2 things to toss in: First, like I mentioned in the other thread, this would only work if Presence-Provoke was buffed enough to satisfy the odd currently-Confronting Scrapper. Second, I think it would be better to have them different. For example, I could imagine Katana getting a short move speed burst, along with slow resist and immob protection, all for about 3 seconds (remember: the way this game works, any immobilize would reassert itself the moment this wore off), while Broadsword would get a leap (port). Cons: More development time Would lead to staggered release Pros: Tuned to set's individual performance, can even be used to buff underperforming sets (e.g. Burst of Speed for martial arts, which means another aoe attack) Individualized to make them unique Staggered release means better targeted testing/feedback. Also, I do kind of think Scrappers could use a bit of something extra, so I don't mind minor utility buffs. I could imagine giving dark melee a ground-targeted TP that creates a Smoke Grenade effect as they port in, for example. -
I would even accept minor DPS nerfs if it meant better uptime on power siphon. Something like a toggle or just a decrease in base recharge so I don't need crazy +recharge just to cash in on what makes the set feel unique. But about the 10 second stack thing -- it looks to me like each power has this +damage component. It's not a global proc or something. For example, Quick Strike has a condition on that power that tests if Power Siphon is true and if so, Quick Strike (not Power Siphon!) gives a damage bonus. If I'm right, that means it's quite feasible to simply adjust the duration of the stacks to 10+(animation time) seconds. That would at least make it consistent, though it doesn't solve things like Taunt and Repulsing Torrent, or clicks from your other pools.
