So ive always wanted an ice controller but every time ive made one ive lost interest once I hit that point where the damage falls off and you start to feel like you need either a lot more damage or a lot more hard control. I inevitably give up and move on to other alts at that point. Id really like an ice controller though. Does anyone have a pairing with Ice Control that make it feel more solo friendly? Or just that you generally feel is the "best" route to go when playing Ice Control?

So im a long time controller player. Well.. I say that but really im a long time altaholic that is looking to get more than one character maxed out. Ive played a LOT of controllers and tanks, and ive always wanted to try to make a defender work for me. I like that they are the best when it comes to buffing and debuffing, and that strikes me as a very strong benefit that is often overlooked. Anyway, Ive dabbled a little with Seismic on a sentinel and thought it was pretty cool. So I thought maybe id give it a shot on a defender, and finally have a go at maxing one out. I typically play Solo or in a duo with a friend who plays dps. But I dont like being a slouch so im looking to contribute some nice damage numbers of my own, and generally just make things easy. Dark looks like it has some great tools that would synergize with Seismic..but I honestly have no idea what im doing here. Ive never had to look at the support sets as my bread and butter. They have always just been a compliment to my main abilities, so now that I need to depend on these abilities for my character to be effective and fun, im a little bit lost. I guess I just want some feedback from the experienced defenders out there on whether or not this would be a new-defender-friendly combo to try? Am I going to run into a lot of endurance issues? or struggle to be effective? Is there any pairing with Seismic that you would say is a much better decision? Dark/Seismic fits my intended character theme, but I can be flexible. Anyway..any feedback and assistance is welcome. Thanks for reading.

So after 100s of alts and years of off and on playing, I think I may have to just admit that there is no perfect character that is going to "click" for me. I figured id make a post about it though, and see if anyone has a suggestion. So, what ive been trying to build forever is a character that fits the playstyle I enjoy, but doesnt have any of the key weaknesses that annoy me. The playstyle: Battlefield controller/general. Ive played my fill of in-your-face type damage dealers and tanks, and what im really wanting is someone who creates controlled chaos. Fire and forget powers, toggles, passive damage dealers, CC, etc..etc.. Powersets like Plant control and Storm Summoning come to mind. I dont mind getting my hands dirty with some straight up blasting as well.. I just dont want that to be all im doing. The weaknesses im trying to avoid: -Endurance hogs -No Mez protection -Annoying perma-power toggling (i.e. having to keep hasten and dom up, rather than just having a single auto-cast ability) -Inability to solo bosses -Boring/repetitive playstyle, or a lack of engagement (i.e. Illusion control is effective, but super boring without some fun additions from other sets) On top of that I just want to feel powerful. Knocking things around and such. Maybe a big damage number occasionally. Anyway.. ive played a LOT of controllers. Tried quite a few doms and corruptors and defenders. Never was able to get into masterminds because the pet controls were so intensive that basically all you are doing is telling them where to go, and resummoning them as they die over and over. So thats where im at now. I cant seem to find any character that fits my needs just right. If anyone has an archetype and powerset combo that you think would be a perfect fit, feel free to shout it out. I am looking for inspiration.

Hey everyone! Im getting that COH itch again. I need to level a new controller lol. I want to play something totally different than what I have in the past though, so im trying to figure out the best combo to go with before I build my hero theme around it. What would you suggest for a controller that wants to do "enough" damage, and be capable in solo/duo play? Primary: Ice, Earth, Electric, or maybe Dark Secondary: Cold, Electric, FF, Pain, Poison So.. any suggestions on what I might pair up from those choices and end up with a strong controller that can solo and duo well? Thank you!

So.. I love controllers. As such, ive never really played a dominator. I attempted a few times, but always ended up missing my support sets. Well im thinking I need to try again, but this time Id like to try and play a dominator that isnt quite so......"busy" Basically I want to cut down on button bloat, and streamline him as much as possible. Any of you experienced dominators have any suggestions? I am leaning towards Plant or Ice or Electric, but im open to suggestions. I saw one thread below that had an interesting build for Ice/Savage.. which was intriguing, but im not sure I want to play savage as my secondary. I like a more ranged approach.

So im recently returning to homecoming and im thinking about trying out Force Fields now that it has been updated with a bit of -resist to make it more effective. Im trying to decide what to pair it with, and Earth, Electric, Ice, Dark, and Plant are at the top of the list. Earth, Electric, Dark, and Ice are all controller sets ive never taken to 50. And plant fits a theme I had in mind. Ill probably be duoing with a friend most of the time.. So im looking for something that is powerful enough to do AVs in a duo without a HUGE investment. Any of these combos that capable? Any advice and opinions are welcome. Thanks.

So im not a min/maxer..but im competitive enough that I dont want to feel weak when im standing next to a min/maxer. I know that achieving +4/+8 and solo AV status on a sentinel is gonna take time and investment. All that said, I dont want to make it harder on myself, and when I do reach the end, I dont want to feel like I wasted my time shining a turd :D. So, back on live I really liked Radiation Blast, but it was defender only and I didnt like defenders.. so I always looked on rad blast defenders with jealousy. Now, Its much more accessible.,.and im eyeing a rad blast sentinel. However, I cant seem to find any good reason to use Rad Blast over Fire, or Elec, or DP, etc..etc.. -DEF just isnt that useful right? So im just wondering if anyone can tell me any reason that I should consider Rad Blast? Does it have anything going for it that makes it shine?

I like this guy's costume, but his backstory is what draws me to him. Readers Digest version: His wife and son were killed and enslaved by a demon. He kills the demon, taking his crown and ruling over his plane of hell. Turns it into an idyllic world for his wife and son to live in. The demon lords on adjacent planes dont take kindly to his methods, and have declared war on him. Now he must kill evil people and take their souls so that he can conscript them into service protecting his realm from invading demons, so that his family can continue to live peacefully. Very darkity dark dark anti-hero Spawn type shit lol.

Returning Player, help me choose who to play
Damoklese replied to Damoklese's topic in General Discussion
I feel like you have used the dice tactic before 😄 Thanks for the info -
So im returning to the game after a few months away and im trying to decide which character to pick back up again. I have cut the choices down to 6, but im not sure which I want to go with. Was hoping some folks with experience with these powerset combos, or with something similar, could maybe give me their opinions on which ones they think are the best/most fun/most effective/etc..etc.. So Battle Beetle is an Electric/Electric Sentinel focused on endurance draining. Illuminus is an illusion/Rad controller that I mostly built because hes supposed to be great at soloing bosses. Not sure if I like rad all that much but he is effective. Winter Crown is a Storm/Ice defender.. a creator of chaos. Hell Crown is a Dark/Dark controller.. I like his concept and he seems pretty effective. ForgeFather is a Fire/Time controller.. cause I love me some dwarves and some steampunk MasterDruid is a Beast/Nature mastermind.. cause druids are cool. So what yall think? Which way should I go with this?

Ya know when the super powerful hero walks(or hovers) into a room and just effortlessly blows all the bad guys away? Like if you pissed off Jean Grey, or Storm.. they arent gonna run around punching folks, or even seem to be putting much effort into the whooping they are dishing out, but a hurricane of destruction is going to rain down around them. Thats kind of the feel im going for. What combo do you think might best exemplify this "vibe"? (Im assuming controller but if you think a different archetype could do it better, im open to suggestions)

Currently I have him named Voltgeist, and he is using the costume on the top left. I am not sure that I like the name Voltgeist though..because people constantly ask me if I am ghost themed, or why I didnt name him Voltergeist. (Its a play on the term Volksgeist.. a philosophical term for the spirit of the people, or the spirit of the nation). I am just not sure what I want to do with him..but he is really fun to play and I want to turn him into a character that I play often. So I need to come up with a theme I like. So here are my 4 possible costumes that im looking at right now. Top left is Voltgeist, who will probably be renamed when I think of something better. Top right is an as yet unnamed silver age type hero. I like the look.. it might get some more editing before I go that route. I think it needs to be a bit darker. Bottom left is Battle Beetle. A concept ive used on other characters that have since been retired, and so is ready to be "rebranded" And the bottom right is Forgefather, my dwarven steampunk smith. I am currently using a similar costume and the name on a Fire/Time controller.. so he would probably get renamed. Anyway.. Ive edited all these costumes to fit the theme and colors im looking for.. but I just cant decide which route I want to go. Anyone have any opinions, suggestions, thoughts or feelings on these?

Any class and combo.. what do you feel is the best set to go with storm summoning? Things to consider: 1) Theme. Sure you may have a lot of mechanical synergy with assault rifle.. but a storm summoner that shoots people with an assault rifle? Just not very strong thematically. 2) Knockback. Its a thing with SS. You can slot them with KBtoKD, or maybe pair with a set that can hold things still. Or perhaps you just kill everything fast enough that it doesnt matter how far and wide they are being flung. Perhaps you feel that the best combo doesnt care about knockback and is a beast played solo where it doesnt matter. All of these are viable suggestions when talking about the best storm combo. 3) Ancillary/Patron pools. Maybe they make a difference in the best choice. So the reason im asking is because I have tried to make a storm summoner since the game was live. I have never managed to even get one to the point that I got to play with Tornado. I have to remedy this. I MUST have a level 50 storm summoner. That being said..ive been poring over all of my class options with SS and cant decide which route I should go. Please help me figure this out! 😄

Im considering my first mastermind. Right now im leaning towards Demon/Dark, and have been told that its a great combo, but I am also very interested in a Beast/Nature MM. I have a druid character concept that would look great with the powerset. Im curious though about whether or not id like the set. Im looking to use it in a duo with a damage dealer.. most likely a stalker or scrapper. Possibly a blaster. We are hoping to duo most of the content in the game. Could I get some feedback on this combo from people who know a lot more about MMs than me? What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of the combo? Is it capable of soloing/duoing AVs? Is it going to be frustrating for a new MM player? Sorry for starting another thread on this but I thought if I put Beast/Nature in the title, it would be more likely to get people who play either of those sets to chime in with some info on it.

Can you help an MM newbie decide on a his powersets?
Damoklese replied to Damoklese's topic in Mastermind
Hmmm... ok that is some good information. So im leaning towards Demons/Dark. Only reservation I have is that I already have a /dark controller that I plan on leveling, and I while that isnt a deal breaker but ideally id like to play a different combo. I think ill make one and try him out for a while to see what I think. -
Hey everyone, So my friend and I duo in COH exclusively. It has become our goal to find a couple of characters that we can use to get through the majority of the game's content in a duo. We both have over a dozen characters in the 22-32 lvl range, and are still struggling to find that perfect duo that gives us everything we want, and also allows us to complete challenging content. Tonight I decided it was time to stop avoiding masterminds. I am primarily a controller/defender fan. I love using debuffs and buffs to control the battlefield, or just using control to control the battlefield. I tend to simplify my builds to make them fast and dependable, rather than going for anything that is too "convoluted" or requires a lot of quick thinking/actions per minute. So I was hoping some of you experienced MM players could help me decide on what route I should go for my first MM. I am basically looking for a combination that: 1) Can reasonably control the battlefield. 2) Can duo AVs with a damage dealer (preferably before level 50) 3) Has sufficient damage to take things out at a pace that isnt grueling 4) Doesnt have too many issues with endurance. (I hate not having endurance) 5) Is not difficult to play, but is also not boring. (So.. for example.. bots/ff strikes me as very boring..with alot of sitting and watching your pets. While ninjas/kin seems way too chaotic and fast paced, and not at all reliable) Somewhere in the middle of those. I have been looking at Beasts/Nature, and Demons/?. I would love to have a storm controller but the endurance issues worry me a bit, also storm seems to underperform in boss fights. If there is a storm combo that doesnt have those issues though, im all ears. Any help and information is greatly appreciated. I am scouring the forums here for what info I can find as well. Thank you for reading! I hope yall can help me out.

Ive always read that Ill/Storm was one of the damage powerhouses of the controller options. Surprised to hear that you arent killing things fast. Maybe there is a trick to it? Proc monstering or something. Hopefully some more experienced Ill/Storm trollers will comment on this and talk about how their damage is.

So on my level 28 fire controller tonight, I went ahead and splurged on a 4mil inf sudden acceleration knockback to knockdown enhancement(im poor). I was severely disappointed when I noticed that my very reliable knockback was turned into an unreliable knockdown. After trudging through some +2 missions I decided to drop another 140k on an unslotter to see if I was crazy or if bonfire really had become crappy. So against some green and blue mobs I tried bonfire with it slotted and unslotted. Slotted.. I would get maybe one knockdown on them before they got up and ran out of the AOE. I tried it again with an AOE immobilize and bonfire, and that got me 2 or 3 knockdowns before they could run out of it. Then I unslotted it and tried it. Guaranteed knockback on everything. Anything that entered it went flying. Using an immobilize on them first, and they would bounce like a basketball until (for some reason) it would knock them out of the AOE after the 5th or 6th knockdown. So for some reason when you slot sudden acceleration in bonfire.. rather than having it work just as effectively, but without the need for immobilize... it instead becomes a fairly unreliable knockdown that still requires you to immobilize things in it to get any kind of use out of it. So.. be warned. If you slot sudden acceleration in bonfire, you are basically nerfing it.
