NCSOFT & Homecoming License Announcement
Crystal Dragon replied to Homecoming's topic in Announcements
As a friend of Grey-Ghost, I'd like to point out that he's not trying to overemphasis on this, only that we do hold true to the code of conduct in many ways and aspects to keep the community both safe, and fun for all that join us. It's not so much order keeping, but rather just saying "Don't be a P---s about the game and the people playing it" sort of mindset. -
I arrived here from a MassiveOP article back in May 2019. Round about my birthday actually. I was a live player on Virtue primarily and played a handful of dragonkin themed characters but didn't have much of a social network as I do today here on Everlasting. I played from 2008 until shutdown in 2012. I *LOVE* roleplaying, I live for the story, the character development, the unexpected twists and turns in character interactions, and portray roughly about 48 characters on my account (To date.) But the content of the game is also quite good and I enjoy running with raiders and sometimes leading MSR's from time to time. I currently lead the Scions of Everlasting, a heavy roleplaying super group that leans neither hero, or villian in regards to red or blue siding. I tend to RP a lot more than I run content I'm afraid, but I'm always open to join a farm to help boost characters, and to help connect people to the groups that might be more in alignment with their character interests and themes in gameplay. 🙂 I go by the chosen name Melrose, I am in my 40's and a stay at home mother of a young son, life partner to @SolSoldier and a friend to many here on Everlasting and other realms beyond of this server. I used to live host lesson nights on a regular basis twice monthly for teaching the basics of roleplaying and some of the forms of play to be discovered here in Everlasting and other roleplaying spaces across the web. I still teach, however it's more a one on one basis for those that are looking to learn, so my door is always open for questions for new roleplayers and beginning players of the server. I am LGBTQ+ and a friend to many of the groups of the server that play together here. I wouldn't go so far to call myself an ambassador of sorts, but a volunteer mentor is a good name for what I do here on Everlasting and Homecoming. So again, with all the warmth and love in my heart, I welcome you to our home away from home. Infodump time: ❤️

Allow me to open this note with a big heart felt ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ WELCOME HOME! ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ As someone within the spectrum of neurodiversity, I wished to welcome all the wonderful lively, colorful, sparkling and glowing neurokin that have come to us since the news hit the airwaves and well beyond on the netverse. We here in Everlasting have quite a broad spectrum of a community, and I wanted to ask a few questions to help you on your way to finding Your People! How did you hear about Everlasting, and Homecoming? If you are a former player from live, what servers do you recall the names of playing, and do you remember what characters names you played with the most? What's your favorite aspect of the game thus far to your experience? Are you actively looking for a super group? Which side? And what play style is your preference? Can tell us a little bit more about yourself, or your characters! Most of us inhabiting the Everlasting shard are pretty insular but I'm looking for a way to help you connect to fellow neurokin and to help make friends with the community groups of our little home here. Last but not least, we do cater mostly to roleplaying on the server, but we do welcome other play styles on the server too, with lots of active content running groups, organized coalitions, and communities on the server.

Second time actually, Project 1999 for Everquest received the grace as well from the original IP holder too. But yes, this is gaming history happening, right here, in our little home away from home. ❤️ -

I am over the moon happy about this, this is fantastic news! I was there when the live servers shut down and it took me years to even get back into a game with superheroes as player characters again. @SolSoldier and I used to team like crazy on COH live on Virtue and on CO and DCUO so you can imagine the hype happening here at the household with our family here! Congrats Homecoming, we have our home safe and sound! -

Heya folks of Everlasting, I'm part of the Pride organizing group and I wanted to put out a quick summary of the event ideas we're working on for this years Pride events, but I'd also like to ask the community to give us some feedback, or perhaps some support to help us pool up enough inf and maybe AT/IO sets to make this a truly legendary memorable experience for everyone that celebrates Pride and participates in our events this year. We are still running through the preliminary steps of organizing for this years events, so think-tanks are a bubblin' and plenty of spoons are a stirring to hash out the details involved. In the last year's Pride events, we had only two lead organizers, DJEros/ @irkallanprince global @spellion and Martine/DJ Midnight Masque/ @Cynicetic global @JinJon10 taking the reigns with wrangling up the details and filling out the month with fun engaging events for everyone to participate in as well as pooling the funds and prizes needed but this year we have a number of extra hands volunteering to help with the work load to make this event month be something for all of us to long remember for years to come. At the moment we're working on scheduling out scattered events to fill the entire month with Pride so that there's something for everyone's play style! So, presenting the rough draft of the event concepts we have for this years Pride. Base Flag Nights, club owners can pick a flag from the LGBTQ+ spectrum to represent in the month of Pride, featuring LGBTQ+ history about the flags origin, known figures throughout history around the world, and trivia with prizes for the winners that participate. Club sponsorships and SG bases are welcomed to be featured for this, but we are still working out the details, so TBA. Costume Contests, LGBTQ+ flag themed, or themed for LGBTQ+ identity, we're hashing out the details on this one and have no judges picked yet for this but we hope to feature more prizes for this. Volunteers and club sponsorships eagerly invited. Content running LGBTQ+ history trivia nights! I already have a couple SG's in mind to ask if they would like to do this, but more groups are always welcome to help spread out the fun to all play styles for the ally and LGBTQ+ gamers in the community. Dragshows, Dragkings and Dragqueens will have a chance to strut their stuff to win King/Queen of Pride 2024! We hope to have superior prizes for this event, and an excellent venue to host this. Further details will be given as we continue to organize and work out the important details and scheduling. DJ Thunderbowl/Smash, we're hoping to pull together the community DJ's to schedule a full night of dancing, music, and fun roleplay for all to be part of, party of the century (We hope to aim for anyway!) and possibly more trivia about famous LGBTQ+! The LGBTQ Pride March, our yearly event will be part of our month schedule as well! More still in the works, I'll update once I have more information to share, but if you wish to help us organize or have an awesome idea to share, feel free to post it in this thread, we're going to be opening for feedback, suggestions, and ideas to make this event month the best it has ever been. As soon as I have contact names to mention here for donations, and volunteering to help us make this a truly legendary Pride month, I'll be sure to tag them here. Presenting the 2024 Pride Coordination Officers/Team General Management/Music & Event Coordinators: DJEros - Global @spellion, Martine/DJ Midnight Masque - Global @Jinjon10 Treasurer account for donations and prize offerings: Tobi @Sigmage8602 - Global @Pride Vault 0 Club Liaisons: @Dragoness10 - Forum/ Global @Tayne North II, @X-Rei - Forum and global Base-Float Coordination/GM Liaison: Trent Lambert - @TorrentYed Global @ruaidhri Forum/Outside Media Comms Liaison: @Crystal Dragon - Forum and global / @thecrystaldragon Discord Taskforce/Farming Officers: TBA SOON! Merry Christmas to the Homecoming Team
Crystal Dragon replied to Lektrah Lyte's topic in General Discussion
Happy Yuletide to those that celebrate! May your homes be full of love and warmth. May your holiday be filled with joy and laughter. May your new year be greeted with peace and good fortune. -
I really like this idea but I can't even imagine the amount of noodle detangling the devs would have to put time into to make this even remotely possible. Hi Sue. I support the idea but I dunno how long it would take for something like this to be actively available to the server right now.
-
We have DJ Tractus featuring for both nights and will post the music stream link on the nights of with the fair ads! 😄
-
Bump to refresh the thread, the fair is still on schedule as planned!

One of the biggest issues I've run into with RP relationships has been the time difference for some players I've interacted with, and more often than not, RL schedule conflicts. The thing that @chase stated is very much a thing that folks need to remember. Even I fail in this from time to time. Communication is top priority, limits/boundaries and having trust in the player you are involving is really important but you need to be able to place trust in them as well in return. While the relationship may be fictional, the exchange of trust is something that's still very valid.

This one should work. It's a perma link from Shade.

An Overly Long Post Talking About Combat Roleplay(TM)
Crystal Dragon replied to McSpazz's topic in Roleplaying
I was discussing with McSpazz about doing a brief breakdown in a quick spar during one of the lesson nights to demonstrate how these systems and rules can still work but incorporating emotes and actions from the emote menu can add a layer of depth to the spar as well. So I might pop up to do this sometime just so show how these systems work but explain how the last one isn't really too functional for combat in RP on Mmo's. -
An Overly Long Post Talking About Combat Roleplay(TM)
Crystal Dragon replied to McSpazz's topic in Roleplaying
So, this is something that @McSpazz and I have talked about at LENGTH before. I come from the generation of roleplayers that were fostered and born on forum boards, and old school chat rooms such as MIRC, and Yahoo!/MSN/Optichat. Some of those spaces still exist, while others had been dismantled for other purposes since those times. We had formulated something akin to a rough set of rules for combat for forum posting, as well as chat posting but much of it is lost to the ages (Some of it is DECADES old, mind you so we had to take into account slower connection speeds and accommodate for fair play.) Some of these rules are based on writing speed, rather than length, but comprised as a combination between who-posts-first, to fair-play which often is discussed out-of-character and coin flipped, or die rolls are done to judge whom will be slated as the winner between the two (or more) players. One of the first few sets of combat rules for freelance play was a 7-5-7 post style, "T-2" speed based but effective. Considered a one-liners core style to play by, this was most often seen and used in fast paced chat rooms rather than forum boards. 7 to make the attack 5 to connect the attack 7 to complete the attack, separated in post lines. Trouble is, most that learn this style try to force attacks, force connects and force sealing the attack and don't really take into account the opposing players style preferences initially. Sort of the spammers combat style, imho, but it was used heavily for beginners and worked for those with dial up connections and just chat room access available. The second rule set was called paragraph, or "T-1", which starts off with semi, or full paragraph settings, descriptions of the attacks being launched, and this one is not solely based on speed, but rather detail and forethought. The way the posts are structured must allow the opponent to respond to the attack, whether it's dodge, deflect, or accept and must equal to the same amount of effect in accepted damage as the attack was launched with. These posts can be almost like reading a story unfolding right before you, so responses can often take a while and this was most commonly used in forum settings. The basics of this one is one I'm most familiar with as I still use this ruleset for my own form of roleplaying in the game. Semi albeit, but it works and folks enjoy the interactions as much as I do. First post for each character must include a description, their weapon choices, and placement in the setting/location. This can also highlight their stance, posture, or other details that the player wishes to share with their opponent that are visible to the naked eye. Second post generally comprises of either what triggered the combat situation, whether it's a spar, or a real reason for seeking to resolve through conflict, and the first efforts to launch an attack on the opponent players character. Third post usually contains details about the attack itself, what does it do, what power is it using, if not power, is it magic what kind is it, ect ect. NEVER connect the attack as damaging however, this is something of a forbidden "Godmode" move to do in paragraph and leaving creative space for the fellow player is an act of mutual respect as players working together for a thrilling scene. Fourth is generally damage taken, or dodges being action-ed, this tends to be turn based between each player, with both acknowledging the others attacks and attempts while enacting their own in return. This allows for a broad sense of collaberative play, while still in a combative situation for the scene. Disagreements do sometimes come up about details in the posts if the chatroom, or board is moving pretty fast with other users posting, so sometimes die rolls come in or coin flips to make sure both players stay on the same page with their flow of RP. The third set, is perhaps the worst (IMHO) heavily speed based dependent, and short hand reliant, it's considered not very fun for the players that get targeted by users of this rule set, but I don't really think it gets used anymore since it's fallen so far out of disfavor in the RP communities I've been part of. It's the "T-3" speed based set, 5-3-5 and tends to welcome looser standards than the earlier two sets I mentioned. Now a days, there are better standards for roleplay combat, and generally accepted at that. With different methods to end the conflict on a satisfying end for both players involved. Whether it's pvp resolved, die rolls, coin flips, or something like I described above here, it's about collaborating for a story over all, and having fun doing so. If you aren't having fun, then maybe give some of the other methods a go and see if it is more fitting for your form of play. 😄 Something further I'd like to add, after the above mentions: Conflict is not always the core matter for a roleplay session, sometimes it's about character development beyond the scope of aggressive scenes and building up the emotional side of the character too. Relationship play can be fairly hard for some folks because of the possibility of blurred lines between in-character and out-of-character and it is critical to maintain clear boundaries and enforcing them. If someone isn't respecting you or your characters boundaries (Not rules, but strict boundaries of Aw fuck no, not okay material) then it might be best to avoid interacting with them. Sometimes, conflict resolution is best ended with just breaking away from that player. -
I JUST noticed your post when I hit enter on my reply to Ultra and the OP. xD I'd like to recommend something to help you out with breaking out of the self conscious worries. There's a series of writing prompts up on the roleplaying section that you could try using for inspiration to write more about your characters mindset and decision making. It may help you find your characters-voice again and help you break out of the ice a bit. ^^ I *LOVE* that, seriously, don't stop doing that! It's a great way to channel that character creatively, and adds some fun life to the game world as you play with others. 😄 Yes, I consider Everlasting something of a home-away-from-home for my headcase basket full of characters. I've been able to find quite a bit of fun roleplaying groups, a few small cliques here and there, lots of great players that are helpful and friendly, and the community itself is very welcoming to new players interested in diving into their character stories and freewheeling a new experience for themselves. Hi, I'm the organizer and creator of the Welcome Wagons project, a homebrew group for helping teach and guide newer roleplayers and the different forms of roleplaying that can be found in the game community. I tend to point people new to the server to the class nights (We're kicking them off again soon, just doing some restructuring to get things to hit on the important points we missed in the last years sessions.) for the Welcome Wagons, and direct them to specific groups that I've been in contact with over the last 5 years on the server. I vest myself into spin off story content, original character content, and focus a lot on development of a rather lengthy saga between a collective of about 36 characters on my roster, and my husbands ( @SolSoldier ) roster and we often bring in new people that stick around for a while, or end up connecting to friends of ours along the way that fit their preferences better. I'd say mature, OC universal, mashup between Dragonriders of Pern, and maybe The Wheel of Time would be a good fitting description brief for my kind of roleplay stories. If I could change anything in the roleplay community within the game, it would be a stronger embrasure of informed consent, for both the players and the story lead, not everyone has a clear understanding of what they are diving into when they okay playing with a new circle of friends and keeping them informed is pretty important.

Thank you for the mention, Ultra! Yes we provide resources to help guide newer players unfamiliar with roleplaying in the mmorpg environments. @McSpazz just got back from an extended break and is working on restructuring our teaching material bullet points and discussion content to help hit on the important points that have been missed in passed sessions we've hosted. Both he and I have been around a good long while and roleplayed in other settings and spaces over the years and we try to share some of our earlier experiences to help folks know what are the bad examples of roleplaying, and what to do to find the good stuff as well as pointers on how to improve on basic written characters interactions and a host of other content we share tips on. We even host a workshop following the "class weekends" we host lesson nights on. Just keep an eye open on the LFG channel for Welcome Wagons, we tend to announce time and location on the day of, to avoid disruptions in the open world maps, and keep things laid back for all that attend. We welcome new and old gamers that are interested and wishing to share their own experiences to help guide the newbloods along.

Announcing Saturday Late Night Specials! (Raiding/TF's!)
Crystal Dragon replied to Crystal Dragon's topic in Everlasting
A quick apology for us slacking the last few weeks. I had an emergency trip cross country to help a dear friend of mine on the west coast and fell ill after I got home. Both Solsoldier and I will be picking up the slack next saturday to continue the midnight (EST) MSR runs. -
Donated, going to poke at a couple friends to see if they can help out too. Edit: Okay more than a couple friends but hey, trying to spread the word!

More lighting options would be wonderful, I love the new additions yall put in recently, much appreciated! 😄
