[Mod] Chat Ranges Popmenu
Crystal Dragon replied to Crystal Dragon's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
Updated the mod file with new options, and range checker addition. This is a super early addition, hadn't tested it out yet, so please feedback is eagerly sought. Self tested, appears to be functional! I'm excited, hehe!- 15 replies

I tend to run with a Asus Tuf 504 SE model laptop (A midline to low end gaming ROG system.) and yeah, it can spin up the internal fans to some insane degree. I use a six fan cooler to keep the temps down and still manage to play without much of a problem on all ultra cranked out settings. I *would* however recommend if you have a way to get a hold of canned air, blast your systems fan vents at least twice a month if you play as often as I do. (120 to 190 hrs in a months time.) It'll help keep the thermal pastes from wearing down too quickly, and keep the vents clear for good air flow to keep the temps down internally within the system. I'm working towards getting my own laptop to a pro to clean it out and check the fans for re-greasing with thermal grease cause it's been hitting some high speeds and really loud over the last month or so. (No canned air available without traveling 45 minutes in a car either direction and scheduling to do that is just a straight up hassle and a fight with family to get shit done.) Here's my system specs: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8300H CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.86 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 TI (Generally pumps out 60Hrz no prob except for MSR, it plummets to 6 to 9 frames a sec. Yay for cult of the frameless!) Resolution: 1920x1080 (No 4k, no point since I love retro gaming.) Saw the mention of the Vega 3, I wouldn't recommend this game to be played on it. I think at the least expensive option, I would recommend a AMD Radeon M800's to my own model with Nivida ranges in model editions for video cards, to play it safe without completely melting down your motherboard just booting the game up. But I'm sure there's more tech savvy folks here that can offer more clear advice and recommendations on that. I'm just another gamer, with a taste for good affordable tech.

[Mod] Chat Ranges Popmenu
Crystal Dragon replied to Crystal Dragon's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
I hadn't thought of that!! That's a great idea, working on it now, trying to find a friend willing to help me test out the ranges and the range checks to make sure it all works. I'll update with progress afterwards with the results of the testing. I appreciate the feedback, truly. Thank you. I chose to add one more option for speak and listen ranges, "Talk" about 15ft range. Basic conversation level speaking distance imho.- 15 replies

Hey everybody, I decided after some testing and running the popmenu for myself for the last couple months to fine tune it out, to upload my popmenu for using the chat listen/speak distance commands. All this popmenu does is provide a quick access menu in a custom.window to the chat range commands. If you are familiar with popmenu's and already have a custom window set up for them, you can add this pretty quickly. If you are unfamiliar with popmenu's you may need some guidance on setting up. You can find the guide for that right here. For the most part this can function as a popmenu flyout on a bind, or via macro button wherever you choose to place it or a global popmenu for your own custom.window. Setup: From chat: /popmenu Chatranges As keybind: /bind "popmenu Chatranges" As macro: /macro popmenu Chatranges *Thanks @Kataklysm!* Iconed macro: /macro_image "Claws_TauntAoE" "Chat ranges" popmenu Chatranges Bind to mouse: /bind ; popmenu Chatranges There IS a single bug I've found with this command set and it's nothing to do with my popmenu sadly. Multiboxing may run into chat being muted on one client and not on the other for unknown reasons. I ran into this issue with a couple instances while multiboxing and found keeping both set at the same ranges and distances at max fixes the issue. But this is a known issue and unable to be fixed at this time. I will update if there's any changes in the commands or any news on this particular bug. The mod file can be installed on the modinstaller from here! UPDATE NOTICE: New version up. 1.0.3 https://mods.cityofheroes.dev/modView.php?id=196 MNU file: Chatranges.mnu (Thanks for the reminder, @BlackSpectre) If you run into any further bugs or issues, please let me know here so I can keep track and ensure it's not a global file issue. For bug reports I will need the following details: Version number of chatranges mod Last update of game files OS you installed COH:HC on Current Update Version 1.0.3 (Bug discovered and fixed, update please!) Change Notes: *Whisper adjusted to 4 ft range for right "in your ear" sort of effect in speaking distance. *New distance added for "Softly" Speak distance range of 10 ft. *New listen distance added for "Closeby" with a range of 10 ft. *Range checker, should be available on the bottom of the menu listings. *As always, feed back is eagerly sought and welcomed on future options, or current. Dev note: Ranges are approx, rounded up or down to the nearest 0 according to feedback from a few friends. If at first you don't get heard, try again a little closer.

City Mod Installer (Released)
Crystal Dragon replied to Michiyo's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
It's a core mod for my setup, thank you for creating it! -
Sorry I've been kind of out of the game the last week or so. Been taking a mental health break. Love you all, please remember to take care of yourselves too.,❤️

Quite so, I appreciate the retrospect and candor that you shared this incident here. It's certainly a lesson to be learned from. Globally roleplayers do tend to stick together and back each other up if infractions like you described of the other individual occur. The whole rule of avoiding naming and shaming on forums, in regards to this community does hold true but there are individuals that are best to be wary of in the community and what I personally do may not be the most productive method, but it does seems to be effective in learning the ropes for beginners here. Teaching the red flags and what to watch out for does help preserve and protect the community from bad actors and greifing both, and knowing we have active game masters supporting protecting the players and their stories here is something fewer still live servers has. It's what spazzy and I both do, my work focuses more in-game, teaching and assisting players one on one while helping continue the live lesson sessions through volunteer mentors in the community such as Thrain and Mulli whom both offered to take on times on the weekends we host. Sometimes I even take over general chat for a bit to discuss RP issues and problem resolution. :)

I love how you expanded on this, @TwoDee, thank you. And yeah, your right, most typical roleplaying is quite fun. There's always, and I do mean *alllllllwaaaays* going to be someone annoyed/frustrated/bored by our usual calmer storys and that's okay. No one is going to have a globally loved storyline, or character, it's kind of defeatist to even think that's possible. But there is such a thing as holding others accountable for making others uncomfortable even when they are informed by the players involved that was the case, as well as holding those that creep, or behave in ways that are unacceptable in public spaces as well as private strangers tells, to the point of scaring them off from RP all together. (Seen it happen to a few players, not too pleased with the people driving off folks like that, and I do believe it's actionable via a GM if it gets to that point of discomfort for the player targeted.) I can count a number of difference instances that I was presented a situation where I was nudged to feel obligated to RP with someone that I just didn't click with, or was creeped out by, or was dealing with personal issues of my own to the point that I simply didn't have the spoons to even RP at all with everyone for days at a time. I'm not even milking it here, but making a solid point that often times the drama comes from players seeking connection and attention from people that just don't have the time, spoons, or capacity to even bother and when they pitch a fit about it, it becomes an unholy mess that ruins the persons targeteds gametime, and experiences, while also sending the wrong message about the RP community itself. Harassment is one thing, but when it comes down to people just not syncing up, or clicking as I like to call it, it can be a really messy ordeal to untangle and disconnect from. Majority of the problems involving the drama that circulates within RP circles does involve miscommunication, and oft times issues that laid unaddressed and unmentioned during the scenes that hit an unseen button. Sometimes it's personal matters that should receive treatment IRL wise, and other times it's just something that connected mentally that left the player wondering where the hell they were going with their story overall. Much of the larger, broader strokes story wise do set a tone of inclusivity of the player base, but also give wiggle room for player response and reactions to the story events that took place, giving the player room to write their character thoughts and feelings without interceding the story writers own. While we are a smaller "sect" of the community, we do foster and inspire some of the changes and new content concepts through interactions with each other. Inspiration is the heartbeat of a games lifespan, whether we like to admit it or not. Small huddle in the corner, but we have clear voices and solid ideas that we often share either with each other, or with the community to drive new directions in the main story of the game itself. *eyes the Aeon content additions and the expanded ITF additions for examples.* Not to forget mentioning the April Fools event, new additions to the holiday events this year, and further changes that brought new life to the game content itself and filled in gaps in the storyline that we often overlook for the sake of just enjoying what we have. Overall, much of the issue with the drama in the community can be resolved if people just learned to open up and just talk about their issues, whether it's just a family quarrel at home and a need to step back to handle that, or a more serious issue that needs to be discussed OOC wise. There's no reason to be shy about speaking OOC to one another, just wish people understood that clarity is also a necessity so there's less misunderstandings between the players involved.

It's not unusual for people to create bait/hook characters to try and get a rise out of others. However to bait/hook a player that is well known for creating problems in the RP community, I can see how that might have run against the common basics of roleplaying conduct and might seem untoward. Given the circumstances that were described and the screenshots, I do believe that the cause was justified ends to the means for what they were trying to do. Outing a player that clearly has issues and refuses to acknowledge that they are problematic, so instead leaving it in the open for all to see that the problematic player in full display to the entire community first hand. While that is a hugely risky move to make in regards to breaching the usual conduct for roleplaying in community's, it does in a way make the problematic player more obvious to the rest of the community as a result, especially if other players are aware and trying to get rid of the problem player. It's not entirely the best way to go about it, but if enough people are united in the effort, it could be a very successful move. Just to give my own two cents, given the earlier long reads - Sometimes discussing the problem in the open, out of character, among the players you engage with the most, you can work out a solution fairly quickly between all of you. If, and I do mean a giant red neon flag *If* the player does break the code of conduct of the game, as well as the conduct expected in the RP community, then it might be more reasonable to reach out to a GM to try and nail the issue on the head rather than allow it to fester in the community itself.

[Petition] Removal of "EARTH FOR HUMANS" Billboards
Crystal Dragon replied to Raiden Dirty's topic in Roleplaying
From the Scions of Everlasting, Human Sanctuary Initiative Subject: Reply to petition A fellow non-earth vanguard contingent here would like to support this request. We firmly believe that humanity deserves to feel safe in their home world, as many of their relative kin in other dimensions and universes no longer exist. It is our primary goal to secure their home in Prime, and ensure they continue to live unharmed by outside interference of the arcane variety. Seeing as our goals mutually align to ensure the safety and well being of human kind, we feel it is only right to support this petitioned request. Our people did not come here to invade, or intrude on human territory. For most of us, we arrived much earlier in Prime history, some of us date back to the middle ages in arrival. Yet we still committed to assist the Vanguard, and help when assistance is called for on the radios, no matter whom is calling. We know we are not alone in the universe, in this dimension. Our only desire and goal, is to continue to live in peace, and securing humanity's future. There has to be some way to end the divisiveness. We do not want human wealth, land, or resources. None of it is of any use to us. It's why we house within Ouroborus. If peace is desired, we will be here to celebrate it with you. Let us seek ways to end this xenophobia and learn of each other better instead. With most sincere intentions, Crystal Dragon, leader of the Scions of Everlasting, and Guardian of the Tirikan refugees sanctum. -

Checking, it did that the first time yes, but I'm not seeing a disabled-override in the data folder. x.x It does appear the folder is missing following some edits to rebuild the mnu files before this latest update. Huh...I'll rebuild them, it's no big issue, it just confused me that it's gone. -

I ran into an issue with the modder wiping popmenu mnu files from the games data folder, this is a bit of a problem since the files I use, are kind of time consuming to recreate. x.x -
Heh. Just deserts, imho.

I'd post a list, but I see no reason to stir the pot. Yes, I actively use global ignore in game, and on the forums. Whether or not it improves the game experience for me, and my engagement with the community on here is a whole other matter. I'm kind of not a heavy forum user, but I have stents where I jump into a thread on a topic I enjoy, or wish to discuss further, so to protect my own mental health and well being, I prefer to just ignore those that go out of their way to be an ass.

Here's some of the mods I currently have zips still for. Um, I know, I'm scrambling to help anyway I can here. I don't create mods but I do use them for better visual (font sizes neeeeed to be added for UI readability) and some others for more simple effects. The only audio ones I have is for the wolf whimper, transformer sounds for robotics mm minions, and the demons to kittens audio mods however those three are too large to add to this thread. All of them are functional, though may need updating in the code side of things which is a complete mystery to me. I do have some still functional mods I could upload the zips for though I am unsure of their authors, if someone wishes to support them or update them, have at it, I'm just trying to help rebuild the catalog of mods that I do know that work still. -

Bless you. Thank you. I'll be keeping a watch for updates in development. -
Would having a list of the working ones available be any help? I kind of hope someone picks up and runs with the cursor highlighter mod, my old glasses dependent eyes can't really see the regular cursor all that well and it does help to have the cursor a different color or more clearly visible with the options that mod provided. (There were I think four options?)
