Ah, yes. No doubt inspired by the Leroy Jenkins tactic.

I don't know how many Posi 1's I've run and never heard this simple, effective-sounding technique. Thanks! I'll try to get the next team I work with to try this, though I feel herding cats on fire is easier.

Bing AI's interpretation of my Fire/Kinetic controller Chili Fuego. This one turned out much better than I'd hoped. I did forgo the red fingerless gloves which, with the sneakers, kind of add to Chili's signature offbeat mix of formal and informal, but I might revisit this one when I have more time. I tried to show the pics with the imps closest to in-game ones. Some of the "rejects" were human-sized, and a few were hilarious like the imps with black suits and Spidey masks. Last used description: Jim Lee comic style Hispanic male with hair in a pony tail with goatee, with thin rectangular red-lensed glasses, with short-waisted white jacket with rolled-up black-lining sleeves over a scarlet dress shirt with green necktie with black slacks with green tuxedo stripe with red canvas sneakers with fist throwing fire with action combat pose with three small fire imps standing in ring of fire

Answer: a reasonable amount of attention for certain items. It's very rare that I sell salvage. When I do, it's just that I've collected so much of one kind that I just need to get it out of stock. With such, I don't consider price. I also don't sell it to the black hole that is NPC vending, realizing that putting it on the AH will eventually aid someone else. Most of the salvage I collect either goes to my crafting/AH character, or restocks the supergroup shelves to fuel any character's use of the supercollider for temp buffs. Recipes are different. Whites I'll usually vend to NPCs, but if I have the time, I'll double-check the corresponding finished enhancement on the AH to see if it is worth my while to craft. It's almost never worth my effort to sell white recipes on the AH. The NPC vendor usually has the better price. Yellow recipes go through an evaluation process I'll not get into, but in simple terms, I'll see if it is financially feasible to craft, possibly convert, and post to the AH. I learned to my surprise a while back that this can be rewarding for low level set pieces, though not usually as much as high levels. Oranges are usually sold to the AH or if the market is poor regarding one, then to the NPC. I only rarely craft below-50 oranges, finding the high-end salvage requirements negate the value of many of them. Purples never get sold. Ever. They are ...my Preciousss. I'll sell holiday extras, if my characters all have at least one.

I'd really like to know how you got it to create "Fury Wings" (game's name for 'em) on the helmet. That's been one of a crazy number of problems I've been trying to solve to do Major Ray Gunn.

Maybe I'm just too tired, but where are you getting next year for CoH (not CoV)? I'm counting on fingers (I did say I was too tired) and still getting 20 on April 28 of this year. Unless you're considering a completed year before each is counted?
-
That sounds about right. That equals slightly more than 4 days equivalent for the character to be offline. Unless your day job in real life is CoH, your first character, playing 4 hours or so a night will finish 1 badge every 5 days or so. While this may sound frustrating to some newer players, be aware that the Homecoming team dramatically shortened the time period. With their introduction in Issue 13 of the original game, Day Job badges were earned every 30 days. So it would have taken years to earn them all. I believe there was a reduction before the end of the original game, but not as short as it is these days. Many thanks, HC team! And, of course, once one is an alt-oholic, You can take some time every several days to rotate the characters you're not currently playing into a new Day Job. They'll earn while you play another character.

I'd forgotten the reward on that one. I'll have to start parking my high-level characters there. (New players: Psi attacks are more prominently found in enemies at higher levels, though it can be found elsewhere.) +Movement Speed. Quoting the wiki: Before a character earns this badge: For every 2 hours logged out, a character gains 1 minute duration, up to a maximum of 2 hours duration. After a character earns this badge: For every 1.4 hours logged out, a character gains 1 minute duration, up to a maximum of 2 hours duration. Seeing as Praetoria is a start for characters, and that those characters are unable to cross into the red/blue sides until missions around level 20 (though they can access Pocket D), I'd put a priority on matching any day jobs normally acquired in the red/blue sides at levels up to 20. They may have already done that, admittedly. I've only one gold-side character at the moment and haven't investigated. I'll have to correct that. Thanks. This is a good spot for helping our new players (and reminding old ones of the details) by inserting a link to the wiki's extensive list of Day Jobs/Accolades and their rewards. For the uninitiated, an Accolade occurs when your character has earned the required two Day Job badges, and gains its own reward. A good point made regarding the benefit to NPC allies. Useful on those missions where one has to keep a wandering rescue alive. Regarding the XP bonus, do you continue to do that once they reach 50, in hopes of advancing veteran levels?

Bing AI again. This is an attempt at my Invulnerability/Street Justice tanker, Streetwise Hercules. Bing rather annoyed me this time, refusing to give me action poses other then stances with a raised fist. I tried a number of different wordings for it. It never once attempted the bicep bands, and had no idea what to do with the wrap glasses nor the belt. Curiously, it was much more accurate with the fingerless gloves request than any previous attempts made with other characters sporting them (it's my go-to glove style). I could also not seem to direct it in the look of the punching fist, though it did manage to stumble in the direction I wanted once or twice. I once tried the word "knuckles" instead of "fist" which led to the otherwise awesome Jim Lee comic style picture, top, second from left. I wasn't expecting brass knuckles, though thinking about it now, I'd totally use such a graphic were it in game. I do like the "vs. werewolves" one. It comes close to capturing the attitude I was seeking.

I've completed all Day jobs on a few characters and realized this morning that I'm not utilizing all I have to the fullest. I normally park in base, so I have a full change of monitor duty teleports all the time. I realize each will have their own preference, but which day jobs do you consider important enough to park in for charges? Do you do a rotation of them, and which ones?

True, and in a warehouse or Atta's cave it's great, but some of us don't like being the pinball of the blue caves.

Just my personal take on it. YMMV: Not sure we need "volumes" unless that would be how expansions like "Going Rogue" would be labeled. Something massive and expansive map-wise, likely adding large chunks of new territory with associated mission. 27/7 seems quite dense. I've been up with insomnia reading all the notes for the last hour and that was with skimming of those notes in the spoiler boxes. They definitely didn't use double spacing when writing this "page". I get why it was done: lots of stuff to celebrate "official" status, wrap up the Piecemeal story, etc. If it weren't for the connections to the other pages forming I-27, I'd have felt this had the weight to be the tentpole for another issue, #28. Maybe its just that I'm just an old dude now, but absorbing all this is going to take some time and effort. I'd have been happy to have it fed to us in 4 pages spaced a week apart, to give opportunity for smoother adaptation. I've no real problem with what's been given, and I think I like it. It's just that it's a Dagwood sandwich, a lot to take in. In summary: "Volume" = major expansion? "Issue" = massive drop starting new theme/arcing story "Page" = meaty, but manageable chunks expanding/exploring the Issue as well as giving the latest bug-fixes It does at the moment feel more like: "Issue" = introduce new theme/arcing story, regardless of size of material added "Page" = material added small or massive. Occasionally advances story.

Well, that's an interesting concept, but would it affect powers as well as character movement? Would energy beams, bullets, etc. bend and have problems with accuracy?

Can GMs assume control over random citizen NPCs?
Techwright replied to kelika2's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I'd seen the police drone devs a handful of times over the years. As to human form, I can only vaguely recall one time where devs appeared in a group activity as NPC character, like the Vahz. However, some were also there with their choice of avatar. Ghost Widow, for example, was present. -
I actually started by asking for a pair of Desert Eagle pistols, the kind used by Deadpool, I understand, but got the first warning off of that. I'd not yet added "henchmen" or "thugs" to the definition, so it wouldn't have been able to judge based on combined elements of gang culture. I used generic "gun" and "pistol" after that until I hit on the idea of using NERF, to show that I wasn't really into malicious intentions.
-
There's also the matter that "skunk" has a number of slang connotations, some not considered socially acceptable.

I'm curious now how an A.I. creation's images would distinguish a bespoke tailored suit from any other suit. I mean, in really life I'll tell largely based on the materials and stitching quality, but I'd think those would be hard to render at these sizes. Continuing the (mostly) white suit trend, I heavily modified @sbloyd's description a few panels up, and took a crack (pun intended) at my Egghead homage, the Eggsterminator, a thugs/eggs force fields mastermind. Bing A.I. did some pretty good work I think. Things to note: got a pair of warnings for trying to use words like "guns" and "pistols", however, it was perfectly cool if I used "NERF gun", and even a few of the results came out with nickle-plated guns. Uh-huh...sure its NERF. Go figure. Also, the thing went completely to rubbish when I tried to add in Eggy's goatee. No idea why but that threw every other design element off, so I left it out. Still, pretty pleased with the results. I find the two to the extreme left to be Eggsellent. Last descriptive used : slim man, art station style, with bald oval head with greasepaint-white skin, with round glasses with opaque yolk-colored lenses, wearing an open-collared yolk-colored shirt under a white suit coat, wearing gold chains around the neck, wearing white slacks and yolk-colored wingtip shoes, wearing short yolk-yellow gloves, holding a pair of white NERF guns, stoic dangerous pose, with six random ethnicity thugs wearing street clothes in the background

The Bad Batch, season 3 (final season)
Techwright replied to Techwright's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
The first 3 episodes of season 3 have dropped and they continue the much more somber tone and good writing that season 2 ended upon. By the end of the 3rd episode, we finally have an answer as to why Omega is so important, and also a big chunk of how this all ties into the Sequel Trilogy, including I suspect, even the so-called Mando-verse group of stories. You may recall it was strongly rumored that John Favreau and Dave Filoni were given a directive to make the Sequel Trilogy "work", a tall order to be sure. While I think nothing can truly save the Sequel Trilogy, I'm intrigued by the effort to make it at least somewhat palatable. The story pacing is different in this one, taking its time to let things unfold. I'm impressed with little details, such as scratching a number into a wall (vital to the story), then gently brushing away the plaster dust (the little detail, unnecessary, but adding a personal touch). Omega is not nearly the wide-eyed child of season 2's treasure hunting episode, and is quickly sobering to a more potent character, yet not losing all her optimism. The villain of the arc is proving to be one of my favorite Star Wars villain, quiet, but very brainy. Deceivable (for a time) but no one's fool. -
Netflix, Avatar: The Last Airbender (live action)
Techwright replied to Techwright's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
You did not miss Toff. She was introduced in Season 2, and live action is doing seasons as well. (Assuming renewal). Toff's VO actress has expressed her hope to see a green light for season 2 in hopes of seeing live action Toff. -
Netflix, Avatar: The Last Airbender (live action)
Techwright replied to Techwright's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
From what I have heard the only controversy so far revolves around Sokka's prejudice towards women. The live action has decided to tone that down. I see why some fans are upset, because overcoming that prejudice through conflict and personal growth is part of animated Sokka's character arc. -
I truly thought we had a thread for this already in the forum, but the search turned up nothing. Teaser: Trailer 1: Freeing Iroh: Final Trailer: Bonus: Toph's voice actor from the original watches the trailer: Well, they're pronouncing Aang correctly. It's a good start. (Also, the actor playing Sokka...wow. Eerie how like the animation he looks.)

Asked Bing AI to do the impossible: think through a heap of a lot of variables to create Grill N. Chill, my fire/ice blaster. I actually filled up all the text line a few times. Description was constantly changing, but here's the last one: Jim Lee art style, dramatic pose, fire and ice auras, African superhero with short military flattop haircut, black diamond mask, orange spandex shirt with flame icon on chest, sky-blue spandex leggings, gold banded belt with black-edged trim and a row of black circles encircling the belt, black banded wristbands, small black shoulder pads, black pirate boots, black cape with sky-blue to pale-orange blend lining I'm not certain why, but the A.I. immediately focused on a largely black uniform, with strong V and diamond elements, and it never let go of that. (It probably homed in on "black superhero" which to me said ethnicity, but I guess the A.I. thought it meant spandex choices. I had to change to "African-American", and then "African" when text became tight) It only once created shoulder pads, and it apparently has no concept of color blending, despite repeated re-wordings of that request. Only a couple, as a result, came anywhere near what I sought. That said, it's created some very interesting designs, and I may have to investigate to see if I can pull off one or two of the looks.
-
Went to it and immediately saw the field box "Anti-Description (optional): Things you don't want in the image". I've not even tested it yet and already this is looking promising in a way Bing A.I. does not.

I have the Kindle reader on my smartphone a and use the black background. Comfortable and elegant. I only use it for casual reading though, and occasional material that I must reference often. If I intend to keep a book or share it, I buy the physical copy. But the smartphone Kindle reader has been great for lunchtime.
