  1. I don't accept that CO's graphics are better than CoH's. More modern, maybe. Technically superior in terms of GFX tech. But I'm not impressed by the aesthetic. CO felt unoriginal compared to CoH. I understand Champions is from 1981 but CO was definitely the copy. The game also felt claustrophobic. You traveled "around the world" but it was like what, five actual zones? Teaming was impossible for whatever reason, yet a lot of the content required it. I hit a bottleneck at some point and couldn't progress, and I could never figure out how. Crafting was annoying. CoH introduced it but it wasn't core to the game. Frankly, if you didn't like it, you could ignore it. But in CO, you have to deal with lewt whether you wanted to or not. The only thing CO had over CoH at the time was customization of power appearance, but CoH has that now. This isn't to say CoH is flawless. There's still to this day a lot of repetitiveness to the missions. And really, please, we need some new warehouse maps.
  2. This is not the first time I've seen someone refer to CoH's combat as slow. Maybe I don't play enough games, but... slow compared to what? It's much faster-paced than combat in, say, WoW. One of my frustrations playing WoW is how slow and clunky everything feels. Maybe it's slow compared to FPS games?
  3. My pet theory about the community is that most CoH players come to the game already passionate about or affectionate toward the genre. Most of us probably read comics, or watched a lot of X-Man cartoons, or (more recently) got really in the the MCU. That stuff comes first, then we get to go play a game that caters to it. I think it fosters a sense of camaraderie, and we all seem to want to share our appreciation of it with each other. For most other games, gaming is the primary genre that functions as the core of their respective communities. Many players will care about the setting or in-game lore, but most are there to play and compete. It creates a very different community dynamic. Not knocking it -- it works for many of the people there -- but it's a very different thing.
  4. So I had a thought about this. What if you made a new char that was your "Clark Kent" secret identity? You could make the character look un-heroic/normal. They'd be level one. Skip the tutorial, go right to Atlas or Rogue Isles. It wouldn't matter what powers you had, since you'd probably on have Brawl in your tray (maybe Sprint and Rest). You would genuinely be "powerless" compared to your hero version. Friends of your hero wouldn't know you're online as your secret identity, which makes sense because they wouldn't actually know who you are. You could /friend closer friends, which would mirror their characters knowing your identity. Just a thought...
  5. Fifteen seconds is a real long time. We typically move from one group to the next in like 5...
  6. So the status page lists heroes and villains. Are those characters created specifically in Outbreak vs. Breakout? Or is it keeping track of alignments as people play? Are rogues (meaning characters started in Praetoria) not accounted for? On a side note, do we know how many accounts there are since the servers went public? Has it hit 100k?
  7. Donated and happy to do it!
  8. I don't disagree but I would say the software underneath the game has a lot of flaws. The game -- the package of fun, engagement, and entertainment you get from it -- is ridiculously well-realized. CoH could get a graphics/physics upgrade, sure. But that wouldn't improve the game one whit.
  9. A fifteen year old base engine (albeit with some upgrades). A game that's been essentially dormant since 2012. It's more fun than most AA games put out in the last year. Is that all just nostalgia?
  10. I do separate all my passwords these days -- and Chrome knows all of them. ;)
  11. I mean Battle.net does it.
  12. I mean, I'm on my home computer in my own house. There's no reason not to save my password in the client. Or at least provide the option to un-mask it, so I can see where I typoed and don't have to delete the entire thing each time. Yes, I mistype my password a lot...
  13. I've run a MA/SR/SS Scrapper from day 2 (not quite my first CoH char but I mained him for years). First thing on Homecoming, I recreated him. I understand that he's not maxed or optimal, or at least so people say. Truth is, I've never noticed. I just have way too much fun jumping into a crowd of thugs, whipping around in a circle kicking things in all directions, and (almost) never getting touched. Right now I mainly team up with my wife, who's playing a Blaster. She outdamages me, but that's to be expected. And she doesn't outdamage me by all that much, maybe 10-15% in practice. And now that I'm my 20s and I'm SO-slotting, I hit a lot more often. I still need to add more Def slots but that's coming. He does lack nukes or single-hit bursts, which is noticeable against Elite Bosses and such. But Dragon's Tail is the great equalizer.
  14. I know at one point during the live game, we could make very short people with proportionately large heads (e.g. "normal" sized heads on smaller bodies). For some reason they toned that down, but it was a great way to make Hobbits and whatnot.
  15. Man, I wish I had time to make a comic based on my main...
  16. I ended up with /bind PAGEDOWN "camreset$$camdist 18" If 18 isn't right, just modify that, but it allows me to see my entire character.
  17. So I just sold a piece of orange salvage for 900,000 inf on the AH. It sold instantly. Who's buying this stuff up so quickly for such prices? Do players have bots or somesuch looking for good AH deals, or something like that? I don't remember stuff selling so quickly back in the day, but I only played up to issue 14 or so.
  18. I ended up hosting mine on Imgur. I also found my old forum avatar out on the net, so I got that going for me...
  19. Thanks, I'll take a look at them. But from what I gather there's bind_load_file_silent which shouldn't spam chat.
  20. Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Like I said, not the end of the world. Thanks!
  21. Hi, Is it possible to use any kind of conditional check with a bind? For example something like "do X if Y is in range"? Specifically, I have a MA Scrapper and I find myself in the thick of a group of MOBs, and often teamed with people with lots of knockback. I would rely on the game's auto-targeting the nearest enemy, but then if that target got knocked away I would have to run or jump over as that enemy was no longer in range of my attack(s). That was fine and all but at the same time I have a bunch of other juicy targets right next to me that need some kicking, so I changed my attacks to use binds that in turn used target_enemy_near prior to attacking. So then if my current target got bopped away, my next attack would just acquire a new target and I could keep fighting. It was great -- it created this "whirlwind of death" feel that I find a lot of fun. However, sometimes while targeting MOB A, MOB B would run up to me and inch slightly closer. My keybind then switches to MOB B even though MOB A is still in kicking range. Again, not the end of the world, but what would be extremely awesome is if I could somehow say "if my current target is still in range, attack, otherwise use target_enemy_near to find a new one." I think the answer is going to turn out to be "you can't get there from here" but I might as well exhaust my options.
  22. Hold CTRL, click the power. It will get a green ring around it and auto cast. Just an FYI, you can only set one power to auto-cast like this (AFAIK anyway).
  23. I started briefly on Victory but jumped over to Liberty early on. In the forums I was simply called "chriz." I played mostly with GhostBat and Roman Torc. I think out SG was Amortal Inc. Citrakya (old and new, virtually identical) The Happening (formerly The Haplophile back in the day, also largely identical) Cathode Ray (never made in CoH, I created him for Champions Online) Contained (originally a Kheldian, now a Stalker)
  24. I preferred the Blue King stuff mainly because it felt more like playing the game. The Top Cow stuff came across as more generic somehow.
