Useful to know, though I’m level 42 and I don’t feel like I need Fire Cages so far.
-
I agree that Fire/TA is probably better than Fire/Thermal. Fire/Thermal is far from unplayable though. I'm up to level 40 in my experiment now and I hardly have to heal at all. I put the Overwhelming Force chance for Knockdown proc in Fire Imps and between that and the Knockback to Knockdown in Bonfire most enemies are on their derierre a significant portion of the time. I actually skipped Fire Cages (crazy idea) and have put a slow movement set in Hot Feet. The enemies I don't care that much about (that are not on their backsides and can still move) try to move away from me very slowly and hardy attack at all. If I immobilised them all I think I would be getting shot at a whole lot more. Im using a combo of Char, Ring of Fire and Arcane Bolt (big hit) to bust down tough targets. It may not be the peak of efficiency but it's going well enough to push my team size up to the mid range when solo.

Out of curiosity I made a Fire Control/Thermal and took it to level 29 this evening. I joined a Frostfire team, did the 2 positron TFs and a Yin TF. It was totally fine, applying the shields was a piece of cake and i wasn’t just healing the whole time. Btw Bonfire with the knockdown Proc is mint!

I suggest that you make an Earth/Thermal controller and team all the way to level 50. Then report back on your experience.
-
To be fair some tanks don’t seem to know that there is an aggro cap either.
-
Now that I think about it I did take an Electric blast/Stone armour sentinel to 50 and that combo is very tanky and blasty. The character theme was being made of magnetic rock. If you want to do Storm/Stone I think you should go for it. Brimstone armour should buff Lightning Strike and your other single target attacks which is the stuff that really matters. The AoE attacks don’t have to have optimal damage to get the job done. It’s sounds like you would be a rarity ‘a high-powered mutant of some kind, never considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die’ 😉

I have taken a Storm blast/Dark armour sent and a Storm blast/Martial blaster to fifty and I found I preferred playing the sentinel. I think storm blast is quite suited to being up ‘in the thick of it’. That is my impression anyway. I don’t see why Storm/Stone would not work, should be sturdy enough to hang around the fringes of melee. If you wanted some other suggestions I might consider SR, Electric armour or any other set that has a recharge enhancing passive for faster recharging zapping.

Well Redside is a lot quieter than Blue. So I think you probably want to look at more solo capable archetypes like brutes, scrappers, masterminds. Though since you said there is no budget limit you can’t probably make do with just about anything just some will be faster than others. Be prepared for ambushes and some rather nasty Elite Bosses in later level story arcs. Having some debuff and/or very decent damage will help a lot. A Dark melee/invulnerability brute is an extremely tough nut to crack. Necromancy/Dark miasma and Robot/Traps masterminds are some other good options to consider.

I would probably be annoyed and quit after the mission. If it was a task force I may ask them to switch it off and if they didn’t I would be tempted to split off on my own because I build Alts that can complete most/all of a mission solo.

For me the good thing that I learned from this post is that I can turn off Group Fly at Null the Gull (and I have been a player since the game went live). The bad thing is I will probably forget in a week. 😏

EU petition to stop video games from being killed off
Doc Spectre replied to Doc Spectre's topic in Video Games
I could be wrong but the main impression I got was to stop publishers deliberately destroying a game after they think there is not enough profit to be made from it. With the intention that player communities can sustain a game off their own efforts. -
EU petition to stop video games from being killed off

Thanks for the link 😉 -
I was just watching an Asmongold video on YouTube and apparently there is a new petition for the EU the make a law to protect consumers from loosing access to video games they have paid for. I can’t sign the petition as I’m not a citizen of an EU country but I thought I should mention it here given the struggle CoH community went through to save Paragon City. They need to get over a million people to sign the petition.

I 'm going with a Dark Blast/Marine Corrupter for the tentacle goodness. Working well so far.

Bi-form PB but with squid instead of lobster?

You can have multiple builds on the same Alt so try it out and see if you enjoy it. I find Nova decent at low levels but a bit limited at high levels. -
Ice Armour has a no-FX option now days so you don’t have to worry about your costume being covered.

New player group content build suggestions
Doc Spectre replied to Lindharin's topic in General Discussion
Can’t go wrong with a Corrupter imo. I found Dual pistols/Trick arrows to be a lot of fun. Pretty much any combo is an asset to a team though. Just bear in mind controlling your AoE knock back if your set has it. Most players like mobs in tight clumps for nukage. -
Making *conceptual* sense of Kheldian characters.
Doc Spectre replied to Zombra's topic in General Discussion
I feel like having to get another character to level 50 first in order to unlock Khelds and SoA was a wise choice. At least that way new players have a chance of having some context before making one. -
I use the Black Shroud Dimension mission through Ouro crystal. I find that I have to kill Nightstar in the mission to get the badge. She usually spawns on top of one of the buildings.

Still can't get started on Incarnate stuff.

I initially found having a shard system and a thread system for making the same stuff extra complicated. If it was up to me I would covert the shard rewards to threads and dump shards entirely. -
You can fire off a lot of you arrows from out of sight around an obstacle. I tend to fire a flash arrow (slotted with hit debuff), duck round a corner and drop glue arrow, oil slick arrow, rain of arrows and then acid arrow (with fire and energy chance damage Proc IOs to ignite the oil slick) Below level cap I would probably start a +1 difficulty with team size at 3 and then increase the team size to what I can safely handle. I like combat jumping on squishy characters so I don’t get immobilised. A force feedback chance for +recharge IO in Explosive Arrow is great for getting powers back up quicker (ghetto hasten)
-
Then I guess I favour the ally toggle option then. Frees up more time for blasting and other things.
-
Some sets give the option to choose between two variations of a power. For example Sentinel Super Reflexes (Master Brawler or Practice Brawler). How about being able to choose between current Fortitude or slightly weaker Mindlink style aoe click. You could then have 2 builds depending on what style of content you were doing.

I probably wouldn’t bother cleaning up leftover bosses. Let the tank figure it out on his own and go back to deal with them.
