    New currencies provide a lot of design value, more than people tend to give them credit for, but the bloat also isn't something to be ignored.

    • Unstable Aether is account bound and can only be transferred to other characters on the same account and cannot be stored in SG base bins; It can be held one-thousand (1,000) at a time.
    • Unstable Aether can be converted at any BenevoLabs Hologram vendors into the following:
      • Trade ten(10) Unstable Aether for one(1) random Giant Monster mini pet invention recipe from any of the listed above.
      • Convert three(3) Unstable Aether into one(1) Prismatic Aether.

    I guess it didn't register with me until just now that Unstable Aether cannot be sold in the auction house, like Prismatic Aether can.

    Part of this may be my own low level OCD or something, but I always "cash out" my character after a play session. I go to Luna and convert all the Astrals to Empyreans, I go to the other guy and sell all the enhancements and salvage, then I put anything else I can sell on the auction house. If needed, I run to my base and convert Emps to Transcendants, then email those to a central character so they are all in the same place. All of this management is not especially fun, but I'm at a point I can do it relatively quickly so I guess it's not too bad.

    Unstable Aether, then, will be kind of like vMerits. I have 10 vMerits sitting on a character and I can't do anything with them - they just sit there and take up space, and I can't even email them to another of my characters. At least I would be able to email and consolidate the Unstable Aether on one character, I guess, but then that character needs to make a special trip somewhere every now and again to convert them to Prismatic Aethers and post them on the auction house. My low level OCD demands it.

    Maybe we could create something at a P2W vendor that would let you take the "cash equivalent" or salvage (or whatever) in lieu of Unstable or Prismatic Aether drops? (Likewise, if I could just donate vMerits "to charity" to get them out of my inventory, that would be great.) I appreciate that there are plenty of players who love collecting Aethers, but I really have no interest in chasing that, but I still have to deal with the currency. It would be nice for me (and any others who unfortunately are like me) if we had a way to opt out of that and just get something else instead that we're already managing. Just a thought.

    it is a great suggestion.  I am far from a programmer.  But let me give you an opinion anyways.

    Whatever this is, it will have to be a "bolt on" with whatever ATM interface or Contact opening up some form of backdoor APP.  That alone is really not something CoH deals with well.  Example, the simple task of retrieving previous AH prices.

    Now, suppose you solve the above issue easily, and it works great.  (miracles happen)  Now you need an APP/Program/Whatever to evaluate issues with a build.  Sheesh.  This would need to identify how many "stray from conservative building practices" options and give UNDERSTANDABLE feedback on each.  Through a ATM/Contact Dialogue box....

    Yeah, it is a great idea though.

    I'm a recovering programmer who still relapses every now and again. I recognize some of what you say. For instance, I know what an ATM is - that's where I go to when I need actual cash out of my account.

  3. I posted in the Suggestions forum once that maybe we could have an NPC in Atlas that you could ask to evaluate your build (on a pretty basic level) who could point out "Hey you 6 slotted this power with damage enhancements, and here's why you may want to do that differently" or "Looks like you have 6 sets giving you +7.5% recharge" etc.

    Just moving some of that knowledge from the wiki into the game itself would be helpful and more player-friendly.

  4. I don't see a Focused Feedback specific to Unstable Aether.

    I've voiced this before and generally I think people don't agree with me, but I'll say it again. I think we need FEWER currencies, not more. I think we need to be working towards simplifying the mechanics of the game, not make them more complicated.

    For me, multiple currencies makes sense with a paid, retail game where you are trying to extract revenue from a customer. We're in a different spot now. For instance, I'm all for getting rid of Incarnate Shards and components and going strictly with a threads system to get incarnate powers - 60 for T1, 80 for T2, etc. Make it simple. I don't think we make the game more fun by having shards, threads, astrals, emps, and a lot of different components, all to achieve the same result.

    The more we make this game something that requires a new player to consult a wiki to understand how everything works, the less new people are going to want to stick with it. I love all the new material, and I really appreciate all the dev work on that, but I really would like to see us embedding warnings (or whatever) for Enhancement Diversification, the Law of Fives, etc. into the game itself.

    Really, that's my only gripe about this particular issue/page. Looks good otherwise.

  5. My problem with Enhancement Diversification has always been that nothing in the game warns you about slotting that 4th (and subsequent) damage enhancement. Sure, if you are looking at the numbers as you go you'll notice something is off, but I don't think most players really do that.

    Same thing with The Law Of Fives.

  6. I always bind "t" to a targeting menu, so I can quickly hit (for example) T then M to target Marauder. I know some people prefer to use T for teleport, though.

    Spoiler

    // POPMENU File for targeting
    //
    Menu "targeting"
        {
        Title "Custom Targets"
        Divider
        Option "&Containment Chamber" "targetcustomnext Chamber"
        Option "&Hamidon" "targetcustomnext Hamidon"
        Option "&Lifegiving Essence" "targetcustomnext Lifegiving"
        Option "&Marauder" "targetcustomnext Marauder"
        Option "&Sentinel" "targetcustomnext Sentinel"
        Option "&U'kon" "targetcustomnext U'kon"
        Option "&Weapon Cache" "targetcustomnext Cache"
        }

    I change F10 to still be a battle cry, but usually with a different emote. You can usually fit more text into the battle cry that way, too.

    At this point you have two options:

    1. Pack it up. Everything will despawn eventually if no one is lingering in the zone.
    2. Fight through the extra mitos and take down Hami. I'm going to discuss this option.

    You can also:

    1. Move everyone to Hive 2 or Abyss 2 (or Abyss if you are in Hive, Hive if you are in Abyss) and start fresh.
    2. Ask a GM to reset the zone.

    I normally run a Hamikaze style run where we have 3 tanks taunting hami and the left and right side mitos, while everyone else goes straight at Hami. If a run fails, we might back up and add 2 more tanks in to taunt the additional mitos but otherwise run it the same. If that fails, we're looking at the other 3 options. Sometimes we are fortunate enough to have an unnamed GM playing incognito in the league with us who can reset the zone real quick. 🙂

    Sometimes, in my experience, you simply don't have the squad you need to do this at that time and it's better to just pack it up. That's a determination I make with the rest of my tanks and incanners. A lot of times the first and second run might be close, but then we fail the third - that's usually one we just walk away from, rather than try to fight through it.

  8. When I click on Forums -> Servers -> Excelsior -> Excelsior Player-Led Event Calendar, I get a not so helpful view that seems to indicate there is only a Hami Raid today, and another on Saturday. I know that's not true.

    If I then click the "Monthly" button at the top, I get a slightly more helpful monthly view of every frickin' thing going on anywhere on Homecoming.

    If I then drop down "All Calendars" and select "Excelsior Player Led Events" I finally get the view I hoped to have gotten on step 1 of this journey.
