Trying to control and dictate the LFG channel with suggestions like the one above is a strange tactic for a community that prides itself on fostering a uniquely supportive and friendly player base.

If the concern is that LFG is overrun with farm requests, I was suggesting a programmatic solution. Have only 1 AE in Pocket D, then program the game such that if you are in Pocket D you cannot post to LFG. That then moves all of that chatter to a more effective environment from all. Moves, not eliminates. Otherwise, I can't really think of a way to move the farm requests from LFG and just have to accept them under the umbrella of "looking for group." That's all I'm saying. @Bionic_Flea mentioned there are numerous farm channels already, and we still see farm requests in LFG.

Plus, you'll recall I ended I ended that post with this:

And, after all of that, they are still, in fact, forming and joining groups, which is appropriate for the LFG channel.

I'm pretty sure you will never find anything that automatically does all that for you.

You asked why I don't improve what we have and post it to mods. I answered what that would look like, and maybe confused matters by not being clear. I would not want or encourage an external program that just looks for "BAF" to show up somewhere and automatically send a tell, assuming such a thing could even exist. It would be best for the user to see the advertisement and choose to click on the player name and select "Ask to Join."

If we could add "Ask To Join" to the list of options mentioned in the first post, there is no need for the script I wrote at all. I cannot, as far as I know, use Powershell to automatically send that tell for the player. I can put the message on the clipboard, but the player would still need to hit enter, control-v, and enter in-game to send the message. Maybe someone smarter than me (which is a low bar to clear) can make that happen, though I don't think it would be a good idea for exactly the scenario you mentioned.

If we can add it as an option to the list I showed in my first post, then no external script is needed. You may still want to use the other tool to get an audible alert and know you need to look at one of your chat windows.

If you've already developed the capability, then why not just improve your script and post it to mods for the game?

It's possible @Michiyo could add my functionality to his program - I ain't a programmer and am treading water already, which is why it's a script. I'm not sure if any external program like that could automatically send the tell for you in-game, though. If it could be added in-game like I described above, then when you see whatever you are interested in you just click their name and select "Ask to Join" and you are done.

If that's the case, then isn't that basically already doable with a bind or macro?  Heck, you could just copy-paste some generic "Hi I'd like to join your team" text ahead of time, then hit ctrl+v after selecting the option to send them a tell...

To clarify, what you describe is:

    1. Copy "I'd like to join your team" into your buffer.
    2. See something you want to join, click on their name, and select send message.
    3. Append to the tell that's now in your chat line with Control V and send.

    What I am proposing is:

    1 hour ago, lemming said:

    1) Click on name to send a tell with the message "Can I join?"

    2) Wait for results

Optionally, the message in 1 could be set in your Options or perhaps even on your character ID along with stuff like your war cry, but I don't know if that would make the developers balk.

The recipient just gets a tell - no new popups or anything. Just makes it quicker for someone to request getting on a team or league.

Also, if you know how to build a macro that will look at LFG and see who just posted about that BAF and format a tell to them so you can just hit F12 or whatever, I'd love to see it. I'm not sure that's possible.

@Michiyo wrote a program that will monitor the chat logs for key words and audibly alert you when something like, say, "BAF" shows up so you can try to join it quickly. I wrote a powershell script that will monitor the chat logs and when it sees a keyword (like "BAF") it will create a response text and copy it to your clipboard, so in game you could hit enter, control v, and enter to send. What I am suggesting here would basically be a better replacement for the script I wrote, and the other tool could offer an audible alert for you.

I believe if someone doesn’t respond to something like this it’s because they aren’t looking at that tab at that moment. It has nothing to do with someone not liking you or the game not working.

    Boy, I hope you're right. 🙂

Yes, they work.  I use them often.   Usually when a SG mate joins a team that is recruiting and it's easier to do that then type /tell NameSpelledOddly, etc...

Cool, the times I've used it I got no response. Wasn't sure if the tool itself wasn't working or if everyone hates me. Thanks for clarifying.

I don't know about you OKman, but if you log on a character on some shards, there are some people who will *instantly* hound you to join whatever you are doing.  I don't want to have to hide because I am breathing and at or above a certain level.

What I am asking for is a way to quickly respond to someone who has said something in a channel visible to others, giving the example of quickly responding to an ad on LFG. I feel like what you are describing is what happens when people log on and see you are online as well. Two different things.

Absolutely, I might just be hanging out in Ouro and chatting with people in broadcast, not forming anything at all, and get some tells this way asking to join whatever I am forming. I would get those anyway.

  8. On this menu, I'd like to have added:

    • "Ask To Join" - sends a tell to the character that says "Can I join you?" or perhaps some customizable message from Options. This would help to quickly respond to people forming teams and leagues.
    • "E-mail Global" - opens a new email message pre-addressed to their global. Makes it easier for those of us who send prizes.

While we are at it, does "Send... Team Leader Message" and "Send... League Leader Message" even work? If not, can we just remove them?

It wouldn't surprise me if this is a popmenu somewhere we could override by placing a new one in the "menus" folder.

Keep in mind the Titanic sank because it had one of the most experienced North Atlantic Captains in charge.  The man knew from decades of experience no iceberg big enough to threaten the ship was in the lanes.  He did NOT know that a couple months back a strange astronomical event occurred that lined up the earth. the moon, and the sun in such a way as to increase the tides where large icebergs are normally trapped.  THis allowed some big mothers out into the channels that were never there.

I must have downloaded the wrong movie. Mine didn't have most of this, but it did have Kate Winslet naked in one scene, so maybe that should have been my first clue it was fake.

Crazy idea: Instead of a whole separate "Looking for Farm" channel, what if they just added a "Looking for Farm" option to the drop-down menu in the Teams tab?

Honestly, I don't know anyone who uses that tool as designed, and have a hard time seeing people suddenly starting to use it. It's an antiquated tool that doesn't really reflect how we form and join teams now. I'm sure some do use it, but by and large I think it was always a solution looking for a problem.

I have seen a suggestion to create a "Looking for Farm" channel, which can easily be done already by whoever would care to create, manage, and promote it. Not me.

The trick would be to get people to USE it, to make it a better choice than using LFG. The LFG channel still gets used as a quasi-General and Help channel as-is, because people get the results they were looking for. I suspect that even if we did create a LFF channel, people will still post to LFG about farms because that works for them better than any alternative we have right now. Until there is a solution that works better for forming or joining a farm, this is what people are going to do.

I wonder if the only AE in the game was in Pocket D, for instance, would people find it works better to actually use broadcast or local to form or join farms? I think not, because you still could not join farms in-progress that may have an opening, but perhaps it would cut down on the traffic on LFG. Maybe we could decide that if you are in Pocket D you simply can't post to LFG at all, forcing people there to use broadcast and local. That hoses some folks who choose to form other things out of Pocket D, but that still leaves Echo Park and Ouro as very reasonable alternatives for iTrials and such.

And, after all of that, they are still, in fact, forming and joining groups, which is appropriate for the LFG channel. They are using the LFG more correctly than people who post to LFG asking how to get to The Abyss, or which lore pet is best, or replying to someone who said something funny, or sharing that Tina Turner died, etc. Honestly, the farmers don't bother me near as much as the others I mentioned. At least farm requests are trying to form groups, which is what we need to sustain this game. The yappers make it harder for that to happen.

I can say with authority that it affects BP, Longbow, and Polar Lights Lore pets, as well as the indeterminate variety of Lore pets getting teleported back up to the monsters after clearing the buds (almost entirely BP and Longbow, so that may not be adding additional data).

I double checked yesterday, and my Robotic Drones Core Superior Ally do not get Incan'd away. Like I say, my Dark Servant does, though. Weird that it affects different lore pets differently.

  12. Napoleon Bonaparte famously declared: "Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence." Some of this is just incompetence with the use of a pretty powerful power, hence the educational component of this post.

Having said that, I don't trust other players enough to set my tp settings to auto accept.

  13. 33 minutes ago, srmalloy said:

It affects Lore pets, too; in the Hami raids that Confusion? runs on Excelsior in the afternoon, I've taken to waiting until after the Incan that comes right after Con calls for Lore summons to summon my Lore pets, just because I don't like them getting ported randomly across the league group.

Weird, I don't think it affects my Lore Pets (unless I accept the TP), but it definitely does affect my Dark Servant. I usually unsummon him since that has a fast recharge. I wonder if it's only certain Lore Pets that get tp'd automatically? I always have my TP settings set to ask permission.

  14. 1 hour ago, lemming said:

I have been doing some dual boxing and tend to turn off the query since a lot of my chars have TP Target now.   After the first Incan, I turn on query unless it's Keyes where Incan has an important role.

Talk more about this... I don't run Keyes because I hate it, but I've been in several because I was bored and it was either that or a DFB. 😄 I don't recall the leaders really using Incan except to gather us all for the final battle. At what points there would it possibly be good for a team member to use Incan?

  15. Over the past few days I've had extensive discussions via tell with 2 different players about using Incandescence. I thought I might throw this out to the community to discuss your thoughts on when, and when not, to use Incandescence.

In general, my thoughts are that if you are the league leader, do whatever you like. But if you are on a team in a league, most times it is best to ask the league leader first before using Incandescence. Using Incandescence at the wrong time can mess up the flow of a run, or potentially cause failure of the entire run.

    DON'T:

    • Set Incandescence to autofire. I can't think of a single place this is useful. And I've seen people do it.
    • Use it just because it's cool or fun
    • Assume the entire league has TP permissions set to "ask" or "accept all"

GOOD PLACES FOR MOST PLAYERS TO USE IT MOST OF THE TIME:

    • On Lamda runs, if you are one of the first ones through the door to fight the guard
    • On Lamda runs, if you are working on ANTACID or WELL STOCKED and find yourself at the last cache or chamber
    • On Lamda runs, if you are one of the first to make it outside because that freakin' door is easier to get in to than out of
    • On Lamda runs, if you are one of the first to arrive at Marauders new location after he jumps
    • On Dilemma Diabolique runs, if you know for certain you are at the correct AV to save and are one of the first ones there (be careful! Different leaders use different routes)
    • On Dilemma Diabolique runs, if you are one of the first ones inside of Mot
    • On Dilemma Diabolique runs, after you get transported to the final battle (to address a bug where some players are left behind in previous room, and for the buff)
    • On Behavioral Adjustment Facility runs, if you are pulling the AVs to the tennis court
    • On Magisterium runs, if you are one of the first through Dream Doctor's portal and BEFORE the IDF timer comes up
    • On Magisterium runs, just before Black Swan appears (to gather, and also to buff)
    • On Magisterium runs, after the cutscene (for the buff)
    • On a Mothership Raid, if you are one of the first into the bowl after U'kon has spawned (arguably - some league leaders like to plant all 6 bombs before facing U'kon)

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. What do you think?

  17. Before this thread gets locked, which I expect any time now, I just want to make 1 observation. There is, and should be, a difference between "current events" and "politics." It ought to be OK to make a comment or joke about a Chinese spy balloon floating over the US. It should not be OK to say that it's the [________}'s fault.

I one time got asked by a GM to please not advertise an MSR as "gathering at Four Seasons Total Landscaping" in RWZ because "some people are still sore about the election." The fact that ANYONE chose to have a press conference at a landscaping company they thought was a Four Seasons hotel is only political because politicians did it. If that's our threshold for what is "political" we're in trouble. I guess if Leonardo DiCaprio had a press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping to celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Titanic" and say that now that it's so old he doesn't want to be in it, we can't joke about that?

Please give your thumbs down below. Bring it.

We were also trying to get the badge on Magisterium  where you defeat all three AV's within 10 seconds of each other. We failed that badge too mostly because (I think) the lore pets kept attacking after we stopped at 2% health.

The TRIPLE THREAT badge is annoyingly hard, even with a good league doing almost everything right, on account of the damned AV regen. As a league leader you are already following Chimera bouncing around, Negas shield, and 3 AV hit point levels - and the regen tick on each AV is a complete blind spot. For me, it's about getting the league into a position to be successful, then just hoping for the best. It's almost indistinguishable from pure luck. I'm sure if everyone is tuned into Discord it helps, but I prefer the old fashioned way. I guess I'm a COH purist.

EDIT: Also, isn't it 5 seconds, not 10?

  19. I had the day off yesterday and decided to run a series of LAM badge runs. We rocked right through the first 2 runs (ANTACID and WELL STOCKED), and kept the league generally together for each of the three runs. Then came the final run for SYNCHRONIZED and LOOTER, and a player joined the league that I'll call "Individual 1." He was on my team, ignoring chat, taking out weapon caches, and was totally soloing the whole thing - quite well, I might add - rather than waiting for a signal to go. I sent tells to Individual 1, and when that didn't work I started TPing him away from the caches. Didn't faze him a bit - he went right back at it like a crazed pit bull. We finally managed to kick him from the league, but he did too much damage and we couldn't recover in time to get SYNCHRONIZED. Still managed LOOTER, tho. I felt bad I couldn't rerun it for the league so they got SYNCHRONIZED, but I was out of time.

  20. Congratulations on your 50!

I would recommend keeping XP on through vet level 99 so you get all the empyrean drops and other rewards every 3 vet levels for that character. If you end up with more emps than you need, you can email them to other characters on your account. You can also convert 50 emps to a transcendent at an ATM and email that to your account to use on another character. I turned off my XP at vet level 666 last year for the month of October and had fun with that, but otherwise I leave it on to better document how I tend to play the same character all the time and really haven't had an original thought since about 1988.

There are a lot of money making ideas out there. One suggestion is to participate in one of the daily Hami raids and select Reward Merits for each of the three runs they do. You can convert those at an ATM to enhancement converters and usually get 70k each, netting you about 20 million per day. I'll let you research other ideas, but you also just have some players who play a lot and accumulate wealth simply from that.

I wondered if it was due to new players.

It would be great if that were the case.

Last night I had a 50+3 character in the league who had never done a BAF or DD and was completely lost the whole time - "how do you know where Siege spawns?" Also didn't seem to understand the concept of "roleplaying" and wondered why my hard rocking character kept referring to the bad guys as "one hit wonders." I had someone on my last MSR who kept shooting me tells during the pregame speech - "hurry up, too much instruction, go go go." Also, someone giving me "help" on how to run a BAF was fun, too.

I welcome new players, and current players who are doing things for the first time. I'm patient and don't mind a little hand holding to get you through a trial. But, seriously, if you're new to the game don't powerlevel to 50. Play the game - it's fun.
