How can Radiation heroes justify using their powers?Scarlet Shocker replied to Zombra's topic in General Discussion I'm gonna be a bit more serious than most of the responses here. We've lost some amazing friends to cancer, in this game, in other lives and throughout our lives. To an extent it's something we have all experienced, directly or indirectly. Loved ones have succumbed and we've held their hands and wished them goodbye and mourned. But everyone of you reading this has at least survived those moments and come through them - altered perhaps and changed forever but still here, still moving forward. My own journey with cancer is something I'm not going to reiterate here - if you know, you know - and so far I've beaten it and I'm probably going to die of something unrelated so there's that. But we're bombarded by particles and radiation every single moment of every single day so let's not make radiation and cancer synonymous. Let's also differentiate between the "atomic" radiation and the metal thing on our wall we call a radiator that keeps us warm in winter. Radiation is a very broad term that means many different things to different people. But in a comic book world, radiation rarely makes your teeth and hair fall out. It's more likely to turn you into a giant green rage monster or give you the ability to teleport and possess a prehensile tail. Or perhaps imbue a spider with magic venom that works once and once only. It's a good question from the OP - but I fear he may be trying to take a comicbook scenario that is rarely that serious and turn it into a real world case and that's a strangely profiled peg and a peculiarly radiused whole. Let's remember that while in the real world some radiates might give us a disease, others might cure us. It ain't black and white. Perhaps we should just take it for what it is in our game and assume it only harms people we specifically aim it and intend it to harm and then only temporarily. If you don't like that, well the mediporters remove all anomalies and hey presto, back to normal. And of course, Paragon has invested billions in the unseen, unheard, unappreciated "Clean-up Crew" who put stuff back and rebuild things once the heroes and villains have finished trashing the place. So I'm thinking they remove all traces of rad from the environment while at it. But they really are a thing - they're just more ninja than pirate. Ultimately I leave the OP to arrive at some form of conclusion himself and make peace with.

What would you do if you were a DEV?! (Fun Ideas Talks)Scarlet Shocker replied to SSR's topic in General Discussion There's a reason they are called the Freakshow. There's possibly an argument for updating them but then... we'd have to ask for fingers on all character models and stuff that simply may not be possible to do. If you don't want/like, ignore as far as possible. But please - and I'm sincere in this - never assume that something you dislike is universally hated. The whole point of this game is that is has two decades of content and updates and development that mean it's exceptionally well rounded, whilst being imperfect. Your famine is another's feast, and vice versa. Let everyone enjoy what they will. That's the main reason I almost never advocate for stuff to be taken out of the game, even if I personally find it makes my skin crawl. Because this isn't just my game. It belongs to everyone who loves it - and not all bits are loved in equal measure but they all are part of the whole.

What would you do if you were a DEV?! (Fun Ideas Talks)Scarlet Shocker replied to SSR's topic in General Discussion You obviously have greater knowledge than me. I kinda stopped after Bluecoat and Epsom and the Normandy breakout through Caen. I went on a field trip through the whole Normandy battle front when I was reading my degree, but that was way back in '98 and I've put that to bed long ago. My main focus was on the Strategic Bombing Campaign, especially the US 8th AAF and their military effectiveness - which inevitably gets compared to the RAF efforts. But that's another story...

Inspirations should be forced into the arena and made to fight one another. Then they'd be duel inspirations! Actually I think they are about as much use as a rubber duck in the Sahara

What would you do if you were a DEV?! (Fun Ideas Talks)Scarlet Shocker replied to SSR's topic in General Discussion I hope you realise I was being somewhat tongue in cheek. I truthfully wouldn't expect the HC team to even want to go there, given that they are all volunteers and have other lives. None of the successor projects have come close except Ship of Heroes which I'm afraid moves me not at all. I totally take your point about Market Garden. Monty's hubris was epic.

I'd never run that one until you mentioned it so I just did it via Ouro. It's a good mission, in that the story is good and coherent - it does give you a chance to feel really evilly villainous, which much redside content fails to do but yes, I found it distasteful too. What made it worse was I was playing a demonic Demon/Thermal MM so I felt I had to take the worst options.

What would you do if you were a DEV?! (Fun Ideas Talks)Scarlet Shocker replied to SSR's topic in General Discussion Has anyone said City of Heroes 2 yet? (sadly I couldn't find the official font but I'm surprised it's not in the font options in the forum because it's not restricted)

This is disturbing. Probably more so because this is the first evidence we have of AI having too much time on its hands.

Going Rogue contact question (yes, seriously. Don't laugh.)Scarlet Shocker replied to Arcalian's topic in General Discussion No questions are silly. Gold side can get complicated. I believe there's some info on the HCwiki - link up top - and there are several threads relating to pathways around here so you might find a deep dive is worthwhile, especially if you have good search fu Best of proverbial wossname

@darkkeepr are you using Razer Synapse? If so what version. There are issues with Razer Synapse 4 and there are no immediate plans for a fix. I discovered this after a long series of exchanges regarding my Tarterus, which is basically the Belkin n52 Nostromo, only ruined.

What would you do if you were a DEV?! (Fun Ideas Talks)Scarlet Shocker replied to SSR's topic in General Discussion Rationalise pool powers (putting them in tier level where you can "pick 'n' mix" the powers you want according to the level of the power you choose. I'd allow more than 4 pool picks so you could effectively run mostly pool powers if you so choose. I'd reduce XP boosters - probably replace the DXP boost with a 10% booster instead. Lots of story arcs have loose ends or just stop without any apparent resolution. I would work on those as priority - let's finish the Praetorian arcs properly once and for all, for example. I'd do more to introduce less well known signature and named characters. There are many many who are super interesting, but only get a tiny bit part. I'd FIX Frostfire's resolution. His arc in the Hollows is excellent but his attempt to sanitise and rehabilitate him is rushed and inconsequential and I'd much rather see him become a real force for in the city and not always on your side. Why can he not tap into the Well of the Furies? Incarnate Frostfire would be a force to be reckoned with and make an excellent story.

That's not a bad idea, although not really what I had envisioned. I was thinking more that Galaxy gets rebuilt with some shiny new buildings, a very similar layout but with new game tech, and the shiny new that both live and hc devs have utilised on other zones such as KW. I perhaps should have been more explicit on that in my original post but I'd already done half a novel and it slipped my mind. I wasn't just suggesting that it got returned to pre-Freedom state but move the game, story and city forwards Let's expand on that: I was thinking more about the Mayor* saying "Let's take back our city" - Galaxy is at the heart of Paragon after all, and a series of missions of all level ranges to clear out Galaxy and ensure it stays safe. Lower levels can clear out the neo-Shivans and higher levels can turn it into a very safe place for the citizenry. *Who is the Mayor these days? Is there an actual named person?

PCGamer article on the return of our CityScarlet Shocker replied to Apogee's topic in General Discussion Hardly a ground breaking revelatory piece, more just content filler. Still all the publicity our home gets, is pretty good
