Do you want statesman to return?
Scarlet Shocker replied to Enchantica's topic in General Discussion
Nobody ever really dies in comicbook universes! Even Warlock came back! -
It's important to remember, and give credit, that NCSoft effectively rescued CoH previously, when Cryptic signed up to develop a Marvel MMO (which then became Champions I believe) They invested a lot in creating the NCSoft West studio with almost all the dev team intact (sans Jack IIRC) so bringing the whole game in house. I've no clue as to the numbers but that can't have been a cheap exercise and it's possible that they didn't consider the ROI to be good enough long term. Any memoirs or recall we get now from those involved will likely be tainted by false memories, rose tints, exculpations and ass-covering so I would take a lot of it with large grains of salt, unless accompanied by a paper trail. Either way, it's ancient history now and our beloved game is back.

I don't have a generic answer, since all my characters* have a different "persona" - usually something that just makes them a bit more individual. I can see a 4/3 combo working well or a 6/1 in the old days, I might have said use the 7th to slot Interrupt in a Snipe but that's superfluous now so I guess play it by ear. *those worth playing more than once post-50

Don't get in a flap! I'd like to see something like a parasail where the PC can glide around suspended from a huge kite above their head.

New Powerset: Silver Age Weirdness
Scarlet Shocker replied to gameboy1234's topic in General Discussion
Aquatic beings known as "Sea men" no doubt. I love the silver age because I remember, as I got into comics in the early 70s, there were lots of people in my real life who were even weirder than that. Some of the strangest seem to have become elevated to high office. -
I stand corrected. Thanks for the clarification. I always thought those two groups were connected.

I think in terms of game mechanics, rather than specific lore, this was a sop to those who didn't know about/forgot to get the Isolator badge. It was possible to get it from Recluse's Victory but that was long and tedious and you had to be very high level IF I'm correct, these were added to make that badge achieveable - but it's mostly redundant now since you can get it in a Flashback mission via Ouro when you join the Menders

On blueside, Paragon Transport Authority seems to run most public transportation, and there are even a couple of missions where we have to save the PTA from nefarious evil doers. But I don't think I've ever seen anything relating to who runs the Rogue Isles Ferries - either management or operation, and it seems to me this would be a strategically vulnerable part of the Isles transportation network, vulnerable to rogue (small r) actors, unaligned villain groups - Skyraiders spring to mind - and indeed Longbow. Destroying a ferry link would be likely quite difficult for Arachnos and villains generally especially at lower levels before gaining access to flyers and teleporters and Lord Recluse's good graces. It seems there's the potential possibility of a few interesting story arcs/TFs/SFs there but I don't know if there's any actual documentation regarding overall responsibility for their maintenance, management and general safety. Anyone have any info?

Actually there wasn't. You simply imagined it! Your offence is unnecessary

not such a silly post. Personally I use the store in Talos quite a bit at lower/mid levels I do like the thought of stores having a secondary purpose but given that Origins are so unimportant now, it would be difficult to see how to make it work. The only way I could see it work would be to reimagine the significance of character Origins and then create an ongoing mission arc through the stores, that can only be accessed by characters of the store origin - but that might get complex and would need to be offered a generic model for the LB vendors. given that most stuff in game is now handed to us on a plate I don't really see it happening.

I find this to be disingenuous at best. Poster knows nothing about what other people are experiencing or dealing with. Personally, my gaming time is for when I want to escape real worldisms and take time out for enjoyment. "Being the change" is not why I play games - I simply don't have that much energy to spend on it. I've seen some toxicity on both forums and occasionally in game, but I also think there's an element of terseness, rather than actual venom which can be mistaken in a text only environment. That said I found some very toxic people on live and the block button is a blessing in all online environments. I'd suggest the community is less connected as a whole, but mostly kind enough.

Anyone get a request to release a name you just got?

Ah haha ha haaaaaaaaa -
I wouldn't want to play on such a discriminatory team.

Garlic's fine. Pineapple... that's another thing entirely...

There's a Frost Trail movement effect in the costume creator. If you recolour powerslide and maybe take Superspeed, if you use a power that gives a good jump like the Ninja Sprint (there is one that looks pretty normal) you might get something close to the effect you want

there's a party going on in one of the blocks. Personally I feel like there should be a lot more villain action happening there. Longbow - who seem to be an extra-governmental body with dubious authority - have effectively invaded sovereign territory. So why would Recluse allow that? I've never understood it. Politically it makes him and Arachnos seem weak. Why he hasn't put together a task force to eject Longbow from the Rogue Isles is a question I fear we'll never had an answer to.

recolour the water blast powerset to represent your ability to dye different fabrics in situ. You could use "Weaver" or "Dyer" or "Tanner" in your name Maybe Nature Affinity to give a "weaving" effect Teleport because "as if by magic, the shop keeper appeared" - which may not mean lots to our American cousins but to all British players of a certain age will resonate.

Best Powersets/Archetypes to use with Soul Mastery?
Scarlet Shocker replied to CrusaderPenguin's topic in General Discussion
I'm inexpert on Tanks but SM seems to offer some good options. One of my favourite superheroes is Daredevil because his powers are relatively low key but he's trained himself to become something of a Ninja. He is effectively his most powerful self. Regarding your tanker: Would Street Justice not be a better fit conceptually instead of ice melee? -
Welcome back!

Best Powersets/Archetypes to use with Soul Mastery?
Scarlet Shocker replied to CrusaderPenguin's topic in General Discussion
It sounds to me (without having read every single post/reply in this thread) that OP is looking for Soul Mastery to be their "primary" power - the thing that sets them apart from the plebs. That would then indicate that primary and secondary need to be powers that anyone with enough time, energy and practice can excel at... so martial arts, guns, etc What I think we're looking at here is powers that fit a tech or natural origin, rather than something more mystical. So maybe a primary of a bow and arrow or gun and a melee based secondary and then SM to come in at a later stage to add value to the whole concept. I'd have to look at Mids for the possible combos and I don't have access to it as I write but if I've understood the OP that's the kind of direction they want to go. A Sentinel might work, but if they want real resilience something like a War Mace/Super Reflexes brute would possibly work - somebody with natural origin who just trained to peak performance and then the soul powers come out later. That would give pretty good solo capability and change. -
The Freedom Phalanx: why the hatred?
Scarlet Shocker replied to Techwright's topic in General Discussion
I think that's rather the point. Although we have a few who are "mentors" in our early levels, by the time we hit 50 (sooner, even) we're meant to have a pretty good grasp of the game universe in which we exist (sure there are surprises to come) but we're autonomous and it is our characters who are - and certainly should be - at the heart of our story. Which ultimately, is what the game is all about. If the FF or any other NPC for that matter, overshadowed us - especially towards the end game - that would be a huge problem for the game as a concept and design. I also think that some of the more interesting NPCs, not just in Freedom Phalanx but elsewhere, offer some really great, untapped potential for more stories. I'm thinking Aurora is one - because she kept Sister Psyche alive - and Agent Six in Founders - one of the more... mysterious vendors, in particular. -
