Help My Eagle Woman

VV

Recommended Posts

Howdy Dominators, I need some assistance on a new build. This is a bird-person concept, controls with talon attacks. It was supposed to be Wind/Savage, but since we don't have that around these parts, I went with Dark/Savage. I colored the "Dark" powers white/grey and it is actually pretty cool.

So, combat-wise, the idea is to get some controls down, then close to melee for the messy part. I'm not so much worried about locking things down forever, just long enough to shred them up. So, I pretty much skipped all the ranged powers in the secondary. My basic chain is open with Fearsome Stare to slow the alpha, pop in with Feral Charge, hit them with Heart of Darkness, splat the field with Rending Flurry, then clean up as needs be.

Here is the first draft.  Also, cost is not an issue.

I just saw this in the other thread

16 minutes ago, Frosticus said:

it really is.

My issue with the set though is that it is pushing me to try out an epic set other than fire and ice.  Namely power mastery and mu mastery.

power because feral charge gives you the mobility to actually use ET effectively even in a team setting. Usually by the time you get to a target they are dead by the time ET finishes animating. But feral charge lets you close the gap instantly to unload ET before the scrapper/stalker can chunk them down.

Mu mastery for surge of power because I just want to port around fighting without concern of whether everything is locked down before I jump in.

This sounds pretty sweet, so I redid it with Mu.

I would definitely take Possess over Shadow Field, personally. At least if you solo at all. And similarly, I slot up Dark Grasp with procs... I think it should end up between 250 and 300, depending on what you put in there. That's good damage for a power that's primarily a Hold.

Feral charge actually uses melee sets rather than pbaoe sets in game.

Additionally I'd put procs in it because it acts like a single target attack, but can hit 5 targets. Plus it makes it still do decent damage even if used from point blank range.

I wouldn't skip Call Hawk unless you just hate the aesthetics.

I think taking both melee attacks is a waste of slots personally. It takes a lot of slots to make an attack power worthwhile (at least 3-4) and you could move those slots elsewhere for more ultility.

I remade portions of the build below. It has similar Recharge overall but also has 29% Ranged defense. Not perfect but it will go with your -ToHit to make you fairly hard to kill against most enemies.

FWIW I am unsure about the Shark tertiary app. From my limited experience, the key power is  Water Spout, so I have added that back in here.

You still need to pick an Incarnate alpha slot. I'd probably go with Muscular Radial Paragon.

So what are you trying to get out of this set to be exact? I like the permadom and high resists.

I'm looking for something that plays like a scraptroller. Basically always in melee. Melee attacks backed up by just enough control to keep from getting shanked.

UPDATE: So, she's up to 50. Incarnate slots all at T2 or T3. And she is so much fun. The only other Dom I have a Mind/Psi and this plays so differently. The Mind Dom is kind of a slow, luxurious killer. You can take your time and watch the bad guys kind of wither under your powers. This Dark/Savage one is MUCH more active and you really feel like you are dropping the beat down.

/Savage does WAY more damage than I expected. I sometimes get scrapperlock and forget that she has control powers, which inevitably gets her dead. But, if I keep the mezz's rolling and spam the melee attacks, things just go down FAST. Feral Charge is at under 3 second recharge time and feels a bit like cheating. With Living Shadows spammable, basically nothing can run her down as she pops around the battlefield.

If I am in a situation that is a bit too dangerous, I can play her totally at range, and let the pets do most of the DPS. Dropping Shadow Field in before jumping into the middle of a big group is great mitigation. Living Shadows keeps things hit with Fearsome Stare or Heart of Darkness from wandering or running off. Not that it matters if they wander since she can get to them instantly.

Groups of white cons are generally dropped with Fearsome Stare + Feral Charge + Rending Flurry. Single White Cons can usually be taken down with one Vicious Slash.

Dark is a great combo with it, thematically, but most of primaries would probably be good.  Thanks for all the help, everyone!

On my dark/sav unkindness is the little spoon to the big spoon that is fearsome stare.

Unkindness can take 2 -res procs and they fire about 50% of the time each. The power also doesn't root you so that is interesting for re-positioning (ie backing up a bit for long range feral charge).

Fearsome stare is often enough mitigation, but if more is warranted you can use heart of darkness after porting in.

Heart of darkness can also take a -res proc and will fire at 90% rate with up to about 60% rech slotting in the power.

I'm still batting around epic sets myself. I've done a few respecs now. I think ball lightning is a good choice to think about if you take mu.

You can alternate surge of power and melee core hybrid for late game content. That promotes almost full time scrapperlock  :)

I can't personally get behind hover on /sav. I prefer the rapid combat movement of bunny hopping cj+hurdle as it makes me play more aggressively.

I like the Ice Pool for my Dark/Savage. The S/L Defense armor pairs nicely with the -ToHit in Dark. But the main attraction is Sleet. The only difference between Dominator Sleet and Controller Sleet is the a minor increase in recharge (60 seconds becomes 90) and the duration of the pet summon (15 seconds on Doms and 30 seconds on Controllers). The debuff still lasts 30 seconds though, giving this power great up time for the average spawn.

Ice Rain is a fairly a hands-off blast so you can drop it and then go about your business killing stuff.

You can tone down the graphics of the Ice Armor in the costume creator if you want.

Tex do you find that sleet has any negative interaction with the fear of fearsome stare? ie allowing them to retaliate a bit more? or is it of little consequence given how great sleet is?

Ice is always my go to epic and i have it on my fire/sav but haven't gone that route yet on my dark/sav.

It does have that consequence, but I find it much worse to deal with with Mind Control than Dark Control. On a Dark Control character your Fearsome Stare and other dark powers have -ToHit to deal with the return fire, where Mind Control's Terrify often has to take hits at full accuracy.
