Bots + Storm MM >> Request Build Critique/Advice

This is my first post since being back in CoH; so if I'm in the wrong spot, or do something insanely stupid in my build, please take pity on me. 🙂

 

This is the preliminary build plan for my Robots + Storm Summoning Mastermind. I play in the Rikti Mothership Raids a lot, so this guy is designed for helping push Rikti sitting on the bowl's edge into the bowl so they can be slau.. defeated. It is also setup as a secondary support character. As of this post, the character is level 46.

 

Build Goals

 

Normally I *really* like MASSIVE amounts of global recharge. Unfortunately, I figured out early on that this build does not benefit from that as much as pretty much EVERY build I've done before. So MASSIVE recharge is the default, when everything else is equal.

 

I *think* Damage and Defense should be my primary build goals, with resistance taking a close second.

 

Can you please help me out?

Storm benefits quite a bit from recharge, having three thunderstorms out at once as two tornados kill things, along with double stacking sleet regularly all require a good amount.

 

1: Two slot gale and get a KB to KD IO and Force Feedback proc into it.

 

2: Replace medicine and Sorcery with Fighting and speed.

 

3: Try to get two Mark of Supremacy IOs in each of your pets. Easiest 30% recharge slotting in the game.

 

4: Six slot the assault bot and get the Soulbound Allegiance proc in it, and take the Damage one too, since it's free recovery and amazing value.

 

5: Have a KB-KD IO in every pet, but put the Overwhelming force proc into your battle drones for some amazing control.

 

6: If you run with the ageless incarnate, focus on procs and frankenslotting lightning storm and Tornado (if not used to mule Defense and resist aura IOs) for big damage.

Thanks! I have enough influence for it. But I do have a question: How does health with a proc in it perform versus Health with a healing enhancement in it?

Thank you for your response and build!

 

1. I use Gale, and sparingly at that, to push opponents around (hopefully in a controlled manner!). So making it turn to knockdown, or even proc'ing Force Feedback wouldn't work well / . at all

2. I have sorcery because I want to buff others with the Absorb shield, and I want Rune of Protection. I have the medicine pool as I want to do some heals/buffs in combat.

3. This was something I hadn't considered, so I am playing with the numbers, now. I had, originally, wanted the higher level set bonuses which is why I had 5-slotted it, previously.

4. How will the Soulbound Allegiance proc work in Assault Bot? I was moving away from proc'ing pets because I thought proc's only had a chance to fire when the pet was summoned. Is this not the case?

5. That idea is so insane! I like it -- TYVM! I'm going to try and see what the results are.

6. I dropped the defense and resist enhancements on Drones and Protector Bots, so I am looking at proc options; again, however, how to procs interact with pets?

I disagree with both builds..

 

Here is my quick take on a Semi-Petless mastermind build I have. 

 

First build has no defenses. 

 

The 2nd build is high on resistance but still limited defenses.

 

I get the whole Proc thing is the new big thing now.  But I clearly spoke in another thread to the player(s) about these builds they are posting. Many of these builds are full of procs that could do some great damage but literally would not survive the return attack because they lack defenses.

 

With Storm you do not have the IO set bonuses available to create a defense cap build. 

So what you need to do is get range defense cap and then use Hurricane to give you the Melee and AOE defense cap you might be missing.  

If you could get rid of hover  would get provoke to go tankermind route. 

I will profess I only know defense builds very well. 

So I would need someone to come here and show me a build with only resistance that they are ACTUALLY using and tell me they are running 4/8 or 3/8 setting.

I can tell you I am personally running 3/8 setting on my Semi Petless ( Last pet only ) Demon/Storm Mastermind build.  I can 4/8 but 3/8 is just much faster.

Your take is very much appreciated, and I am trying to digest it, still. That said, I couldn't agree with you more regarding defense (both DEF and RES). However, I took the Sorcery pool because it gives me these options:

* 3D movement -- both Teleport and Flight (2 powers, essentially)

* Resistance

* Absorb shield -- can be cast on others, including the bots

This is why I am loathe to dump it.

Every attack your assault bot does will have a chance to give the assault bot build-up. This stacks with itself pretty often.

 

Considering how his burn patches are your big damage, this yields great results.

Do me a favor: Try it. I'll buy you an unslotter and the IO itself, if you want. Spamming it while all your other stuff is on cooldown is amazing control. It's a HUGE cone, too.

1: Support hybrid caps defenses on the build I posted. On top of this, the control and bodyguard mode effectively negate any meaningful retaliation.

 

2: It's not really a proc heavy build, the KD procs are they to prevent your bots from scattering the mobs, which would ultimately lead to slower clear speeds, and perhaps a wipe under certain circumstances. This build was tested for the last week, and handled +4 arachnos, carnies and Malta without too many problems.

Every attack your assault bot does will have a chance to give the assault bot build-up. This stacks with itself pretty often.

 

Considering how his burn patches are your big damage, this yields great results.

Do me a favor: Try it. I'll buy you an unslotter and the IO itself, if you want. Spamming it while all your other stuff is on cooldown is amazing control. It's a HUGE cone, too.

1: Support hybrid caps defenses on the build I posted. On top of this, the control and bodyguard mode effectively negate any meaningful retaliation.

 

2: It's not really a proc heavy build, the KD procs are they to prevent your bots from scattering the mobs, which would ultimately lead to slower clear speeds, and perhaps a wipe under certain circumstances.

I do not disagree what you describe is awesome control; my lack of interest lies in the fact that part of the build goals are to be able to position mobs where I want them. While Hurricane IS good for that, Gale seems to be more effective (accurate?), which is why I want to keep the Knb in it. I just want to be clear that I appreciate you sharing a good control plan, it just doesn't apply to my desired results for this build.

I'd change hurricane's slotting. You're going to run dry fast between that, the storm powers and photon grenade, even with ageless.

 

Some elaboration on your build goals might help me come up with a better solution. I have to insist, you really want the build up proc in the assault bot.

The build is to act as a pusher in Rikti Mothership Raids. The character and her bots will be standing around the lip of the Rikti mothership bowl, pushing straggler groups of Rikti into said bowl, for efficient clean up by allies. Additionally, the build will function as a backup buffer, tossing occasional heals and status protection on others sweeping the rim, and Tankers/Brutes going back and forth, bringing in more targets. The build will sometimes function in the bowl, where it will be expected to help clean up the Rikti pulled in by the Tanks and pushed down into the bowl by the Pushers.

 

The build needs to be survivable, with minimal assistance from support characters, and effective at moving targets in specific directions. Taking a few targets out along the way is optional, but highly satisfying.

 

My playstyle is such that I LOVE high recharge. On this build, that helps me spam Tornado and Lightning Storm, as well as the hand full of other, direct attack powers.

 

I am sure I missed something else, but I can only look at what y'all are dong, and answer your questions. And appreciate the fact you are helping me. And say "thanks". 🙂

Force feedback in gale, tornado and lightning storm will give you a very high uptime with the recharge buff. If you insist on not taking kd procs, at least do that so you can fulfill your role more frequently.

 

Not able to use mids right now, but do consider my slotting if you want to make the most of storm, tornado and sleet.

I'm sorry this is impossible with the build posted. I have several storm toons. 12 or 15 lvl 50 toons all IOed out.  Thats not including the 5 or 6 Petless masterminds I run around with solo that are capped out as well and IOed out.

I don't know everything about the game. I played from the start. I understand the game mechanics. I don't profess to grasp how resistance is equal to defenses. I honestly don't see that either.. 

Defense cap means 1 in 13 hits get through.  Resistance means exactly that.. How much is resisted but it gets through.  And I am just talking DPS.  

 

I tried provoke on a non defense capped toon and got crushed..  I tried using Oppressive Gloom on a non defense capped toon and got crushed. 

 

I won't even bother bringing up Malta. 

You have no Psi protection to survive Carnie and Arachnos.

Afraid you're wrong. The carnies are annoying, but no threat to me. They get shredded like nothing, just like everything else. The only annoying factor about them is when they phase out, stalling an otherwise quick kill.

 

Your build is good, but it sacrifices too much for that defense and doesn't take advantage of Storm's sheer damage potential. Between the knocks, pet aggro, crowd control stuns, spot healing, support hybrid when it's up and bodyguard mode, it's really hard to take the build down and will be even harder when the AI changes come in. Sure, if I just stood still in the middle of a pack of carnies without the Hybrid up, I'd probably get trashed eventually. Goes for most builds, though.  Storm has a lot of mitigation going for it.

 

Second, it's built with the hybrid and purple insps in mind, which is a common build goal nowadays - and it can do perfectly fine without them, regardless.

I'm sorry you don't have enough inspirations to run a 4/8 Carnie mission solo. 

I have a farmer with defense cap and 90% fire resistance and he still can die against the incoming DPS.

 

Here is how it is going to play out..

A full tray of inspirations.

You will eat a few start the fight keep eating by the time your done with the double pull of mobs you will be low on inspirations. 

Next fight you will run out and die..

At hospital refill the inspirations and come back and restart where you left off.

This will be the rinse and repeat process.

 

Pick the server I will create a lvl 1 stalker and watch you in the mission. 

I'm sorry but I am calling you out here.

I just do not see Storm doing this solo. 

Once your mezzed and hurricane is down your done.  

If you said Traps THEN I wouldn't be so vocal. 

But Storm is Storm is Storm. I don't need a storm mastermind to know this. 

Once you are mezzed your pets are doing nothing.

But I can PL level a toon in  a few days or get the cash for a new 2nd build on my demon storm mastermind. Or is robots now only ones that can do this ?

 

I'm sorry Storm cannot do 4/8 Carnie or Arachnos or Malta.  

But I am willing to be proven wrong.. 

And if so I will come here and eat crow and kowtow and I will be put in my place and lesson learned..

On my petless mastermind thread I have a screen shot of running a 3/8 Cot mission surrounded by Cots. 

I posted that pic because I have having issues and I fixed the issue.. So it was sort of putting out like a diary of what fixed and how it worked. Maybe one day someone wants to try it out.. So I am telling you what isn't working for me an why. 

 

Just so much you can do to prove me wrong.

Windows has a Xbox console which will screenshot and record as well you bring it up with Windows key + G..

I learned defense cap from Adeon Hawkwood back in the day. It was like my new religion when I understood it. I seen this guy surviving and killing things on my team that made me die a million times over and I had IOs.. But I was frankenslotting with no clue on game mechanics..  Yes I was doing more DPS but I was also dying left and right. 

Overall he was actually doing more dps because of runs from the hospital I had to do.

Nonetheless we met on the forums and read his threads and other he pointed me to.. 

 

I will happily give credit where credit is due.

You said something as fact.. I say its impossible based on experience and game play and game mechanics. I am NOT speaking from theorycraft. 

You stuck to your guns. 

In my head I was like am I wrong, I could be wrong. You picked the 3 strongest groups in the game and said your soloing 4/8 against them.  I've been on full teams that have had issues with these mobs. You might as well tell me you have magic powers in real life.

 

And its not derailing this thread.. Because your telling new players that Storm set and specifically a storm mastermind can do these amazing things.. I believe that is is misinformation.

This discussion is about bots storm.

You stated with no status protection that bot storm could handle some mobs that I don't think they can. 

Again I'm not the smartest person on these forums. 

But I also don't see anyone looking to rescue you either. But I do see many people looking at the thread. So they are curious. 

But please next time you ready to post.. Please post your current build as you mentioned that build was old. 

I mean at a minimum do that. Post the build.. 

I will happily PL a Bots Storm of your build to 50 and look to fight Carnies myself on a 4/8 setting. 

I have been mezzed and I see my pets do nothing.. 

I have a stormer and have gotten my backside handed to me several times while being mezzed. 

 

You keep trying this how dare I hijack a thread related to the exact topic we are discussing but you still haven't posted your build.

 

Further Antiquated builds ? 

Has this game changed in 8 years it was dormant ? NO..  My 8 year old build is just as relevant today as it was 8 years ago.. Game mechanics has not changed..

You can search my name and clearly see I asked the player(s) behind the proc monster stuff and even they conceded that surviability on some of their builds were difficult.

Procs are great but not at the detriment to player survivability. No player.. No pets.  

Further again the procs don't exactly work that well as expected on many powers. 

Yet again you can see my work and logs with Oil Slick on the forums. The procs were minimal.

Again I did the work.. I have the post to prove it.  

I am running petless masterminds on 4/8 against certain mobs - circle of thorns.

There are players that can't run 1/8 setting on IO builds. Only because they don't understand game mechanics.

Let me add. 

As I stated earlier.. I would be very happy if someone else explained to me how you are correct and I am incorrect. 

Trust me I would be respecing many builds based around this new found game mechanics.

 

Darkir reworked a DP Kin build I had to a point where that KIN portion is the framework for any other KIN build.

Currently reworking my Whips KIN to this build which will be full positional defense capped. 

Smalltalkjava posted yet another KIN Beast related to speaking with Darkir. 

 

Again this is how you learn. 

 

No need to reinvent the wheel.  

You get core builds from primary and secondaries and then just pick IO sets for what is missing. 

Range cap hover blaster AR/Device .. Hover, kick, tough, weave, Maneuvers, Tactics, Skip AIM if you have Tactics.  Scorp shield to get maybe S/L cap as its the most common component to many attacks.

 

I just hope this whole thing isn't relying on an incarnate ability.

It's giving someone build advice, not a discussion for bots/storm in general.

 

 I gave you the chance to act like an adult and make a dedicated thread, but since you want to be spanked so badly, here's a clip of a much weaker build proving you wrong.

 

Notice how I double/triple pull several times and didn't die or really use that many inspirations. It's why I picked this clip, it's essentially the worst possible scenario. Turns out your petless mastermind build isn't a good frame of reference. You are not getting my new build, it's only for friends, and you have ignored my requests.
