Accuracy and Missing. A lot.

Hey everyone I was in the Help channel on Indomitable describing my unbelievably bad luck when it comes to missing and people were understandably doubtful that I miss as much as I say do with 95% chance to hit things. So here's the picture I promised I would upload to the bugs forum to show what I am talking about. From what I understand this should not be possible with the streakbreaker which is why I took a picture of it with my phone (I forgot how to get the windows to show up in screenshots and really wanted a picture of this since I wouldn't believe it either if I had not seen it with my own two eyes.)  The only explanation that makes any sense to me is that because I was on a Mastermind my pets were benefiting from the streakbreaker instead of me or something like that. I have no clue if that's a thing it's just a possibility I hadn't considered at the time.

Autohit powers have no effect on the streak breaker. Pets, of any kind, each have their own streak breaker record, tracked independently of their owner.

 

I see from your log that you activated Web Grenade, and there is no report of it either missing or hitting. Is it possible the hits are just not showing up in the combat log? I don't know why that would happen, because I'm pretty sure hits and misses are the same channel, but Web Envelope is an AoE and it can miss twice as long as there was one successful hit in between the misses. Do you remember if some enemies were affected by it?

Yeah I saw that Web Grenade oddity too before I uploaded the pic but I decided to post it anyway. To be honest I thought that was the one of the misses before I looked closer and noticed it wasn't in there. I may very well have lobbed the grenade at the capsule instead of the vampire I thought I had clicked on in which case I would have thought it missed when it actually hit something, just not the target I intended. So maybe I managed to miss IRL rather than in game terms. It's the most likely explanation I can think of. But still. Even accounting for confirmation bias I seem to miss a lot. I really can't help but notice it on attacks with longer animations like Assassin's Strike or that one attack in Radiation Melee because I often use Build Up before those and I can shrug off missing the first time but trying again after Build Up recharges and missing with them a second time makes me wanna pull what's left of my hair out. There's also that old joke my friends and I used to have about the occasional Secret Super Reflexes minion who just seems to not get hit several times in a row by AoEs and then single target attacks. I remember back before we could see numbers and didn't have that "deflected" message I could still tell something was up with those Rikti Drones who literally are harder to hit than normal but it was hard to prove it without people just writing it off as bad luck. At this point though I think I really am just having statistically unlikely streaks of bad luck compared to the average player. Some people win the lottery, and me, I miss a lot in luck based games.

Radiation Melee on Stalkers has been broken for months to my knowledge, and has not been fixed.  @IIIXJokerXIII proved this with copious data of combat logs for devs to pour over and the conditions for each.  But the only response was a curt/terse "Fixed." response when it clear hasn't been fixed, at least not for Radiation Melee Stalkers.  I don't know about others.

 

My point is whatever is causing this:

1. it's not easily apparent in the source code as to why

2. it highlights the possible issues with the Clamp() function itself, and why it'd be better if it simply wasn't used (for example, how Armor Class vs Attack Roll works)

3. it highlights a communication issue where this is not being taken seriously, while many many Stalkers get frustrated that certain attacks keep missing.  It could be something just with Radiation, but I'm not sure.  Dr. DiscomfortI hate to say it, I don't think the HomeComing staff believed IIIXJokerXIII either.  But I'd strongly encourage sharing detailed combat logs with conditions (like show what the toHit was at the time, etc) so that way there's multiple people reporting the same issue.  The more people report it, the less it can be considered as a possible one-off oddity.

For what it's worth, there are a lot of powers that don't show hit rolls or are missing information in the combat logs. The patch yesterday seems to have fixed some of these but there are still some cases where you won't see a hit roll in your combat logs unless the power misses (Corrosive Enzymes is one example).

 

That being said, I just created a Thugs/Traps/Mace MM on Pineapple and ran around Atlas Park for half an hour spamming Web Grenade and Web Envelope on anything I could find and wasn't able to recreate this. Every hit roll was showing and streakbreaker was working as expected (though occasionally the hit rolls would come in in a weird order in my combat logs so the streakbreaker would show up before the attack that missed).
