Where to slot the Controller ATO sets in my Grav/FF

FourSpeed

Recommended Posts

I've finally gotten around to filling out my Grav/FF controller and I've noticed both: A> An absence of Grav Guides on HC and B> An absence of builds for a Grav/FF on these forums.

I've read some of the stuff from the old Live Forums (on Wayback Archive), but quite a lot is different in HC. So, I'm wondering where to slot the two Controller ATO Sets. I'd basically been thinking about GDF and Singularity, but I'm not at all sure those are the best fits.

Any thoughts / advice would be very welcome.

Thanks in Advance,

1: Singularity is a damage pet. Although it controls, slotting up the controls doesn't seem warranted, so at most it should get an IO or two for control, and the rest for damage. Also, the ATO sets bring a lot of Recharge and that's wasted in Singularity.

2: I put the Energy Orb ATO into Dimension Shift instead (1 slot with the Energy Orb is probably enough, maybe a 2nd for an End Red IO).

I like to slot up the single-target Hold for Damage and later Peroxisomes (Dam/Mez), so the only place left for the ATO sets is the AoE Hold. Well, you could put it in Wormhole, but you really want 1 slot of KB to KD in there, so you can't 6-slot it, and it has a nice defense bonus in the 6th slot.

The only reason to slot recharge into Singularity is so that you can (re)summon faster.  Recharge will have no affect on how quickly Singularity can use abilities.

If you're going to slot Singularity AT ALL for increased control, use an HO ... not an IO.  I use this:

Level 32:    Singularity
 (A) HamiO: Endoplasm Exposure (+2 Acc/Mez)
 (33) Expedient Reinforcement - Damage/Endurance: Level 31
 (33) Expedient Reinforcement - Accuracy/Damage/Recharge: Level 31
 (33) Expedient Reinforcement - Endurance/Damage/Recharge: Level 31
 (34) Expedient Reinforcement - Resist Bonus Aura for Pets: Level 30
 (34) Sovereign Right - Resistance Bonus: Level 25

The reason for this combination is that it yields a relatively balanced Acc/Dam/End enhancement mix along with 2 bonus resistance procs when Singularity is within 60ft of you (basically Mastermind Supremacy radius) to make Singularity even more of a tank for you.  However, it's the HO slotted in that increases BOTH the Immobilize AND the Hold durations on the powers that Singularity uses to attack with (Crush, Lift and Gravity Distortion).

My preference for the Energy Font is to do this:

Level 26:    Wormhole
Overpowering Presence - Accuracy/Confused/Hold/Immobilized/Sleep/Stunned/Terrorized: Level 27
Overpowering Presence - Confused/Hold/Immobilized/Sleep/Stunned/Terrorized/RechargeTime: Level 27
Overpowering Presence - Accuracy/Confused/Hold/Immobilized/Sleep/Stunned/Terrorized/Endurance: Level 27
Overpowering Presence - Accuracy/Confused/Hold/Immobilized/Sleep/Stunned/Terrorized/Endurance/RechargeTime: Level 27
Overpowering Presence - RechargeTime/Energy Font: Level 27
Sudden Acceleration - Knockback to Knockdown: Level 21

That combination creates a Wormhole power that has a Stun duration longer than the recharge time (in the context of the rest of the build) and which will spawn Energy Fonts upon use (to layer on even more Stun power).

The alternative that a lot of people use is to put the Energy Font proc into the AoE Immobilize power, since using that on groups will often times spawn an Energy Font Pet.  The reason I don't is because I'd prefer to have a "perma" Wormhole and because the AoE Immobilize power is just such a ridiculous endurance hog of a power that it'll drain your blue bar empty in almost no time flat if you spam it every time it recharges and because it's only an Immobilize that does a token DoT of damage (preventing Sleep and so on from working).  So even though I have the AoE Immobilize power in my build, I rarely use it (except when the situation calls for it) ... whereas with Wormhole, there's simply no good reason NOT to use Wormhole as often as possible every chance you get.

Thanks for your quick replies - very much appreciated.

I'll take a peek at your guide, RedLynne, and see how you slotted yours. This toon is primarily a solo'er, and one idea I did like was the idea of KB -> KD in Singy which would complement the same in WormHole for porting a mob into his clutches.

I'm not too experienced with the toon yet (it was a theme character I started on the old Live servers, and PL'd here), but so far, with just Commons, and some Frankenslotting in the key attacks (Lift, Propel, Crush), it feels Blastery to me (which I like), and Singy is nigh-invincible already, so I'm wondering if I can swap the Sovereign Right IO for the Sudden Acceleration KD proc to get that double KD synergy with Wormhole.

Currently, GD & GDF are slotted with Lockdown Sets, but I'm still looking for an ideal place to put the Will of the Controller ATO set also.

Once again, thanks for your advice.

Regards,

Ok, Here's the build (post respec) I think I'm going to go with... Any advice / suggestions welcome.

As mentioned earlier, this is a themed, mostly solo build, so a couple power choices were dictated by that (notably Teleport). Based on the last 10 or so hours of playtime on the current build, the order of power picks was somewhat tweaked around level 20 for the Signature arc down there ("Who will Die #1 - Alastor / Theoden) which I like to run, so the two bubble shields were deferred til later (re: solo toon).

A few ideas I like in this build are the Mag +2 Hold Chance IOs  (Devastation) in Crush & Lift (My Blasters use those and they work quite well). I also was able to slot the KB -> KD procs in both Wormhole and Singy, and still had room for one of RedLynne's resist procs in the pet as well (although, in my current build I've never even seen Singy's HP bar move -- even fighting Romans in Cimerora, but moar iz bettah 😉 ).

I dropped the Med pool in favor of Speed (for Hasten - which is fairly close to perma) as I wasn't getting hit much, and I can use P2W Med Kits instead. In addition, I also have a Chance for Heal in Power Blast (another trick my Blasters use), and there's also quite a bit of Regen in the build as well. I was also able to take the Leadership Pool (by dropping Fly - Hover) to increase perception (vs Knives of Artemis, Arachnos Commando Scouts, etc.) and bump Accuracy / ToHit up from the 75% scale.

Finally, to answer my original question and taking these replies into account, I put 5 of the Will of the Controller set into Crushing field, and per Frosticus, I threw the Psionic Dmg proc in Singy (I'm now expecting Hilarity, Frosticus! 😉 ). Overpowering Presence (only 5) went into Wormhole (along with the Sudden Accel KB -> KD proc), and when Hasten is up, it should recharge in ~28 secs...

Once again folks, thanks for the advice, and if you have any other thoughts on this build, by all means, please feel free to post them.

Regards,

PS> One more thing -- I can't figure out how to get the "Pet Window" on-screen when Singy is active (like you see for the Lore pets, for instance). Can that be done? If so, how?  (TiA)

I put the controller set that includes the energy font proc into the AoE immobilize. I found I used it a lot (especially on TFs) and routinely got the stunball to appear and since the mobs were already immobilized it just flitted right over to them and shocked them for a bit. I wanted to get the full set bonus as well.

I used the other controller set with the damage proc in wormhole, but swapping out the damage proc for the knockback to knockdown IO. (If you leave the damage proc in you give up the no-notice no-aggro function in wormhole).

The damage proc by itself went into Singularity, which I primarily slot for damage. (I like peroxisomes...)
