YOUR Titan/Bio brute build! What is it?

Unrandom

Recommended Posts

This is for you awesome, experienced players out there able to do stuff like this guy who soloed an MoITF without using inspirations: what is YOUR top-of-the-line build for a Titan/Bio brute? (I know that @Werner's build is Katana/Dark, but I would like to know about Titan/Bio brute builds.) What makes you proud of it (or what awesome things have you been able to do with it)?

Please share your build, and explain its purpose/what-makes-it-great.

I'm looking for an ultimate goal build---something to strive for---so don't worry about influence cost (however, if you do know the approximate total cost and would like to share that, great!).

I'm most interested in how you slot your build enhancement-wise; however, if you want to include what incarnate powers you use, that'd be great too!

(Please feel free to also share any other tips particular to your build/playstyle if you like.)

There have been a few titan/bio posts if you dig further back in the brute forum. Everyone has their particular tastes and you can get a general idea of how people build theirs and apply it to your own.

There are some basic game mechanics you need to understand.

Defense values - https://dechskaison.blogspot.com/2011/01/why-is-softcap-so-important.html

Procs -

Download mids, you probably have done so already, and start familiarizing yourself with sets and set bonuses.

Have a short list of goals when you approach a build, and sort those goals order of priority. Goals like "I want to be survivable and do damage" are meaningless and offer no direction. Bio armor already features armors that offer typed defense so it makes sense to build for typed defense so goals like "I want to reach close to 45% defense to smashing/lethal/fire/cold/energy/negative damage on and be able to leverage force feedback procs to boost hasten to perma level with incarnate help" is much more tangible. Being able to construct goals like this requires some basic understanding of game mechanics hence the required reading material above.

Another thing, don't forsake damage for set bonuses. For example titan weapon does knockdown and there are people that will slot knockback sets in the attacks. Besides the fact that those sets offer pretty bad bonuses they also don't enhance the damage as much as real damage sets do. Similarly I see people slotting dark melee attacks with to-hit debuff sets and they complain about not doing enough damage. Well duh! Slot attacks with damage sets.

Also, don't make the mistake of slotting full sets as I see a lot of posters do - full set doesn't mean best.

Unless you have loads of influence and know the exact final build you want, no build materializes overnight so approach it in phases. When you are just starting you are not going to get that billion inf perma hasten softcapped to S/L/E/F/C dream build so start on the attributes that's going to make the biggest impact first. Smashing/Lethal are the most common damage types in the game so getting your defenses closer to the softcap will dramatically improve your survival so let's work on that first using affordable IOs. Then look to move to the next phase and work on improving your recharge, defense to other types of damage, better endurance management, etc, in whatever order of priority that's important to you. You will burn a few respecs along the way, but if you go through this process you will become one of those build pros in no time.

great 1st post. welcome to the forums. be prepared for the flood of lasting new friendships coming your way.

...and maybe it's just me, but i doubt any great char builder ("pros") would call a player a "loser" for seeking info on "explain its purpose/what-makes-it-great", "any other tips particular to your build/playstyle", & Enh slotting tricks. "an ultimate goal build---something to strive for" sounds like ambition to me, which is exactly the type of player i want to teach. but hey, maybe all this means i'm just no "pro" like yourself.

Yeah, almost all the good builders seem happy to share their builds, experience, tips and tricks. Alas, I have no TW/Bio build of my own to share, and my only experience was leveling up a TW/Bio Scrapper. The low levels weren't fun, but the high levels were with all the AoE and knockdown. That's all I got, sorry. 🙂

Thank you all! I've finished reading both of those posts you linked to, and they've helped me.

I spent a looong time yesterday and looked through every one of the 32 pages of the brute section of these forums. There are very few TW/Bio builds posted (this one and this one are interesting, but seem not quite "finished"). Funny enough, in doing that I learned some other things from other posts not particular to TW/Bio (like this) that I might try. With this thread I was hoping to see a few "finished builds" (I understand if "finishing" a build may not be completely possible in a developing game like this, but you know what I mean), and hear the stories of the players who've played them about what they've done and what they like; that way I could better plan my own (something I've learned from other things is that math is great, but real experience doesn't always happen as it looks on paper [or in a simulator]---but maybe I'm wrong in that assumption for Mids and CoH). I do have Mids, and it IS awesome---I don't mean to put it down at all. I also looked through every page of the Pylon Damage Thread and saw this awesome video. He didn't post his build, but I've sent him a PM; maybe he'll share it with me.

I'm glad you wrote that, because after reading the "Why is the softcap so important" blog post, I would have probably tried to get positional defense softcapped. (Now I'm guessing that would be a mistake.) Reaching 45% defense to smashing/lethal/fire/etc., and perma-hasten, and Spiritual Alpha sounds great to me! I will shoot for that. What I really want to do is be able to solo GM's, and I'm guessing that will get me there.

I don't think I'll have problems with influence once I know what to build. I have enough for one top tier build. I've gone through all of Robotech_Master's guides, so have a fairly OK understanding of the market. I have a good amount of influence from the market, and a lot of merits from getting all of the exploration badges (on all heroes, villains, and Praetorian zones) including the shard dimensions (I hate that place).

In a team, I can contribute fairly well (even in +4x8), but I have to run in the "Defensive Adaption" stance most of the time, and I want to get to where I'm in the "Offensive Adaption" stance 99% of the time. I have all IO's (normal) enhancements on my powers, no sets yet. I have no travel powers (I buy jetpack at P2W). I have level 3 Musculature Alpha, Storm Lore, and Ageless Destiny, and T1 Ion Judgement. I've read all these posts on enhancements: (1) "A guide to IOs", (2) "Nic's Guide to IO's with Impact", (3) "Attuning/Catalyzing Enhancements", (4) "Attuned Enhancements and When To". I've also read main posts and a bit more in the "Farm Fresh Builds" thread, even though I'm not planning to farm with this character, as I was told that some of the stuff there would still help me, and I think it has. I'm not writing that stuff to brag, just to show that I've been looking into things, but I honestly am still having a very difficult time understanding enhancement sets, especially taking into consideration what you said about it not always being the best thing to slot all 6 of a set, how different sets affect different types of powers, "mules", "frankensteining", and even exemplaring (less worried about exemplaring, but I understand it is part of things to an extent). I am beginning to understand some though, just a bit slower than I'd like.

Thank you all again for your posts! Hopefully a few great builders will share here; but if not, this has still helped me a lot!

It all comes down to focus and understanding that you can't spread you goals out and try to cover all the bases. Let's set a goal as practice:

I want to build towards S/L softcap and be able to squeeze in a modest amount of recharge so that I can get close to perma-hasten

And we are going to slot crushing blow which is a melee attack

You have a few choices here:

If you are going to focus on S/L softcap since that is a priority you should be looking at Kinetic Combat as 4 pieces of that set offers the highest S/L defense out of all the other "normal" IO sets (excluding the superior versions of the winter set and ATO). Kinetic combat has 5 pieces for the full set and what does that 5th piece get you? 7.5% move speed. Does that align with your priorities? nope, cut. Then you look at the enhancement values with 4 pieces of kinetic combat. The ACC value is abysmally low so mental note, I probably should stick another slot in there to bring ACC and perhaps damage up, maybe a Nucleolus hami-O.

If you are going to chase the secondary goal which is recharge then hecatomb is a good contender. 5 pieces gets you 10% global recharge, great! What does the 6 slot offer? 6% toxic/psi resist? Is it nice to have? Possibly, does it align with your priorities? nope, cut.

Now let's move onto another example that is a bit more complex, same goal:

This time we are going to slot Hardened carapace which is a resist shield

Resist powers take the gladiator armor or steadfast protection 3% defense uniques so you can potentially slot both here and still have 4 remaining slots to work with. Of the resist sets two offer S/L defense at 4 slots. Reactive armor and Unbreakable Guard. Unbreakable actually has a higher value BUT... Reactive also provides energy/neg energy defense at 3 slots in addition to S/L defense at 4 slots. Energy/neg defense might be a tertiary goal since you have a defense shield for those damage types so now you have to decide whether you want to spread your focus out and try to cover your other goals.

Scrutinize each power and process slotting of these powers that way and eventually you'll see that there are only a few sets that can get you to your goal. If you go for the extreme and process every power for S/L defense then you may end up with a build that exceeds the S/L softcap. Great! now make some cuts and look for ways to achieve your secondary goal.

FYI fire/cold defense is tremendously easy to softcap if you use winter sets. Energy/neg defense is going to be much harder. S/L defense is somewhere in between.

sorry for the late reply.

not sure if it's the best build in terms of survival - it's not softcapped, but is one purple away from' being softcapped. was gunning for enough recharge to run the optimal strings 100% of the time.
