iScream for all : Ice / Ice Scrapper

Hi folks

My "One of every AT to 50" moves onto Scrappers. Because I'm weird I've gone the less-travelled route of an Ice/Ice. Ice Melee in particular seems very rare for some reason. Not sure why because I'm really enjoying it at the mo. Animations are quick enough (bar Frozen Fists which while levelling I've replaced with Air Sup until I get decent enough recharge to drop it). Ice Patch is an amazing one-slot wonder as I level up.

I have a "no purples and no Winters" build done but would welcome feedback / improvements. Obviously I'll Attune the ATOs once I hit 50. Think of this as the "I've just dinged 50 build".

Like I said no purples and no Winters (I will if I hit 50 and like the build possibly add some purple procs into Freezing Touch but no more). Water Spout is non-changeable for concept reasons (iScream is a broken / reset Praetorian Frozen Desserts Dispensary Unit and I gotta have me cones).

I just copy/pasted into a text editor and then enforced plain text before copy/pasting the plain text back into the forums so as to remove the RTF color coding.  Note that you can do the same thing when you export by choosing the No Codes option from the right column at the top.

So I discovered that I hate Icicles. Looks terrible and I've no huge need for plinky AOE damage when I'm running around with Ice Stomp and  Frost.

So rejigging this gives me the thematic panic button that is Hibernate and slot up health with some of the other uniques. Dropped a travel power too since Ninja Run + Sprint & a jetpack is good enough for me (in fact the Jingle Jet is thematic and makes me happy in a ridiculous way when I switch it on)

Also it looks like it's the Long Forum Export which is causing me Posting issues, not the colour scheme

You have made a mistake.

You probably haven't realized it yet ... but you will eventually.

Icicles plus Chilling Embrace is what makes you extremely dangerous.  Icicles will contribute a surprisingly large amount of your damage production without costing you animation time for click attack powers.  It's essentially "background radiation" that is harming everything that clusters up around you.  You can use Icicles to not only produce "unfair" amounts of damage on herds (over time, granted, but damage is damage, right?) in addition to helping you to avoid "wasting" damage on overkills, because you can rely on Icicles to shave off the last slivers of HP rather than expending animation time and endurance of knocking off the last little bit of HP with a "larger" attack.  This then lets you distribute your damage production "more efficiently" into the dogpiles of XP you dive headfirst into and rise to the top of.

As for the "look" of Icicles ... isn't there a Minimal FX option for it in the costume editor?

If there isn't, what I did was use the absolute darkest Blue color (left column in the color swatches) which then made the Icicles themselves difficult (enough) to see.  They were still there, of course, and still happening, but the minimization of the visuals made them a LOT easier to overlook.

Doing damage to up to 10 $Targets around you every 2s can get VERY efficient ... both in terms of damage produced per endurance spent (while doing damage), and in terms of enabling you to switch $Target priorities when your $Target is almost defeated (because Icicles will get them for you!) so as to move on to the NEXT $Target quicker(!).  Icicles enables you to defeat more $Targets in parallel, faster ... so drop it at your own peril.

Just a few comments on your ice melee slotting:

-Frost is a great power to slot some range IOs, consider swapping your ATO's around to put 3 scrapper strike for the S/L dev and a few range IO like the one from Posi.  Makes it even better when you jump up and turn it into a pbaoe.

-Strongly consider dumping a couple of the damage procs in Freezing Touch for some recharge.  It is the best scrapper DPA  attack and using it more often outweighs those procs.  One IO I would  consider is the winter melee hold proc, has recharge and now you can start holding bosses instantly.  I understand you said no winter sets but I would at least get that one.

-GIS is horrible, consider replacing it with cross punch if you are set on ancillary pool without a snipe.

Nope. No min for it. Tried darkest blue in the cossie editor but its still minging. I understand how auras are free damage, animationwise but I dont think I can get past it.

I may try again but it is terribad looking.

Hmmmm. This is interesting. Gonna look at the animation & recharge time differences.

For frozen touch at the mo its using the same slotting as Ice Sword, kinetic + an Acc/Dam to get it fully slotted and a psi proc. That IO might be a decent alternative proc. Im not against a smattering of purps etc, just most builds are 2 Winters sets and 2-3 purple sets here and thats 400+ million.

Edit : So taking all of this onboard and trying to shunt things around (Cross Punch IS marginally higher DPA, plus it can hit more than one thing but won't take ATOs)

Spoiler

Dinged 50 last night with my ice/ice scrapper. Completely unexpectedly, it's one of my top 3 scrappers ever. Very different play style, but tons of fun. More folks should try the combo.

I've got him softcapped to s/l/e/n. Fire and psi are the holes, although I do have moderate fire resists. I level some of my scrappers up with IO's the entire way, and I did with this one as well. Will move some things around to optimize him, but for the most part he's very survivable and does a good bit of AOE.

And yes, I do agree, Icicles+Chilling Embrace = set defining. Lots of toggles, end management is key, but I don't recommend skipping either of those powers. With ice/ice, there are many, IMO, unskippable abilities in the primary and secondary. You're free to play how you want, but skipping more than one or two out of each set makes it just another scrapper.

For frozen touch at the mo its using the same slotting as Ice Sword, kinetic + an Acc/Dam to get it fully slotted and a psi proc.

You have rchx3 slotted in Freezing Touch, this will negatively affect your chance to process. Switch to acc/dam, acc/dam/end for better results.

Cheers all. Icicles is back into the build now, took it at 44. Look isn't as bad as I feared when turned darkest navy and in amongst all the other toggle effects. I'd tried darkest grey previously and it stuck out. Also dropped GIS for Crosspunch as suggested and it's much nicer feeling, and will take an Oblit set too.

Level 46 now and sitting at 44% smashing, lethal, NRG and Neg. With that, Hoarfrost, my tier 9 and Epic Hibernate available as an emergency I've found myself being the last person standing a fair few times.

Yup, I know the proc chance goes down but having such a quick animating power up more often seems to make up the difference. Plus as-is I need the 3.75% smash / lethal from Kinetic Combat.

Do you have a finalized build you could share?

I don't yet, as business has picked back up dramatically the last 7-10 days and I haven't played much, but as soon as I do I'll definitely post it here.
