MA/Inv Help

MA/Inv scrapper, currently 30, but less confident about the end build. What I was looking for was a normal guy who just kicks stuff. I compromised a teensy bit for Cross Punch, to give me a second aoe, and to beef up Kick damage to something not so laughable. I know the T1 and Kick aren't great, but even at 30 I still find myself using them because my other attacks are still on cooldown. I still have one open slot haven't decided what to do with yet. As far as swapping powers goes, no stealth or super speed, and any attacks need to be weapon-based or kicks. I could maybe swap out Boxing and Cross Punch for Mace Snipe and Mace AOE? Any ideas & suggestions?

Were I building something similar, here's how I'd probably go about it.

Overall, I like what you did with that -- almost all defenses and resists improved, some even to the softcap. I played around with it a bit, traded away a bit of S/L defense over the softcap to get softcap E/N defense and Psionic resist. Traded out most of the LotG Def for LotG Def/End, to help out with end. Traded the Numina in Health for Gaussian in Invincibility. Traded Moonbeam for Zapp. Mid's shows that Zapp does less than half the damage of Moonbeam, but hoping that isn't the case...

Here's the tweaked version, what do you think?

Not bad.  You've brought your E/N Resist down.  But there's always tradeoffs.

Taking Cardiac would raise it back up a bit AND totally floor out your End consumption.

Terribly NOT a fan of not running optimal +Recovery in Health.  Even with End consumption this low.  Again, tradeoffs...

As for trading out Def for Def/End.  Most of your End consumption comes out of your attacks.

With Def/End: 1.1 End/Sec
With Def: 1.28 End/Sec

Anything under 0.25 End/Sec difference when you're THAT low is pretty much unnoticeable.
And running Cardiac HALVES that performance delta at T4.

For an extra point or so of Defense to buffer Soft Cap?  COMPLETELY worthwhile trade.

Just noting something odd. I'm only using Tough as a set mule for E/N defense, as we have capped S/L resists without turning it on. Can just drop Tough altogether assuming we can pick up the E/N defense elsewhere.

Note: Your totals on Defense were skewed.
You had Invincibility set to 3 enemies.

I always go in and edit the scale for Invinc from 1-10 to 0-10.
This way I can see how my Defenses look with ZERO enemies in range.
And that can become important if an enemy's sniping you.

So your real S/L: 43% and E/N: 42% with 0 in range.

Yeah, you can drop Tough.  Move Boxing up into that slot (otherwise the build's illegal.

Here's a tweak doing just this.

Added the Numina back in on Health.
Then tossed Assault on single-slot.   The gain from Numina's unique is more than enough to pay for Assault.
Then I just added the remaining 2 slots into Dull Pain (a bunch of Heal/Rech).

A fairly beefy build!

Also, here's another possible path to travel.

Also, yes, I've checked previous version of Mids.

TBH, I'd forgotten that I'd moved the slider to 3 for Invincibility. How do you edit the scale for Invincibility? It runs 1-10 for me, and I didn't see anything in Configuration >> Options to mess with that.

Besides that, it looks like I've got a fair number of pivot points to play with once I'm actually 50, kitted out, and incarnated out.

  • Def vs Def/End for the LotG
  • Numina +Reg/+Rec vs +6% Psionic Resist
  • Cardiac vs Agility vs Musculature
  • Pulverizing Fisticuffs in Kick for E/N defense vs more RechRed/Heal in Dull Pain
  • Tough vs Assault

For now though, I'm still only L31, and mostly slotted out with L30 IOs. Thanks again to everyone for offering build suggestions!

Note with the Psi Resist.  If your vectored Defense is high enough, I really wouldn't compromise a build too badly for Psi Defense or Psi Resist.
Sure, you have maybe 25% Psi Defense then.  Yay?  But if your Melee/Ranged/AoE are all above 25%, you're basically NEVER going use it.
I know there's one or two enemies in the game spitting unalloyed Psi-Only damage.  But we're talking hen's teeth at that point.

"If I tune my car like THIS, I get 600 hp on a full moon in October if I have a black cat in a car with me.  But the engine will grenade immediately on November 1st!"

"But with this tune, we get a steady, stable 550 hp all year long and we don't kill the engine..."

"But if I tune my car like THIS...."

"You invested in a shipping container of spare engines, have you?"

Your Defense numbers are high enough without Agility that, while it's attractive, isn't really delivering a lot of value.  Eespecially if you're JUST sub-Soft-cap.  Cardiac gives you more strength-in-depth.  And Musculature will bump your damage output, though you're sitting at about 100% +Damage already in just about all your attacks.

On an Invuln?  I REALLY don't consider Boxing or Kick to be attacks that're worth dedicating slots to.
Even with the Boxing/Kick/CrossPunch synergy thing going on.

Again, Assault bumps your damage.
Tough is just a set mule when totally kitted out.  If you're going Cross-Punch, it's totally removable.

A few thoughts:

  • Drop Thunder Kick for Cobra Strike.
  • Investing 6 slots in RPD and 4 slots each in REl and REn is a waste.
  • 6 slot Dull Pain, preferably 6x Preventative Medicine. If not, find somewhere else to put the +absorb proc.
  • You're going to want a KB>KD in Crane Kick. I would put Scrapper's Strike somewhere else.
  • One of your Unbreakable Guard sets should have the +7.5% HP piece.
  • You want to hit ED max +defense in Invincibility.
  • In Tough Hide, swap the Def/End for Def. It's an auto power and uses no endurance.

RPD: No.  It's not.  Because 4 of the slots bump Resist to DR caps.  The other two are for the Defense uniques.
So you get a completely End-Free power that give you healthy Resist numbers under your Defenses.

Healing and Regen ARE NOT MITIGATION.

The builds are all though enough that they have very little reason to even HIT DP.
It's one of those tradeoffs for building a combat monster like this.

Depends on your fighting style.

SS is just there as a general idea.

Tradeoff.

Ideally you want to hit Soft-cap  with zero enemies in range.
This way, once you start saturating Invinc, you become Godlike...

122.62 vs. 52.55 damage, higher DPA, mag 3 vs. mag 2 stun. I can run an attack chain of Storm, Cobra, Crane and CAK with no gaps. I don't need a low damage filler like Thunder.

I don't have access to Mid's right now, but I thought he was already over the S/L cap without DR enhancement to RPD. I have no issue with the uniques.

I don't care about DP as a heal. I want it for the +HP. I rarely need to use it, but when I do I want to cap HP. Also, there's no need for a tradeoff - you can easily achieve both. You can definitely spend less than 6 slots on DP, but Preventative Medicine has some nice set bonuses.

i only took Storm/Cobra/CAK, giving Crane the boot-to-the-head so i didn't have to fix the KB. had over 80% +Rech before Haste tho, so it'd have to go back in like the chain Uun suggests. Thunder & Eagle suck, from an efficiency perspective.

leaving a slight 7% SL Res gap before cap is efficient if you have Reactive Unique slotted, and building up E/N Res (as done in the last build) is a good move for end-game content (tho i think the hit to Rech was too harsh). agree that Psi can be overlooked, & mitigated in-game the few times needed.

@Rumble ...the Gauss proc isn't very good in Invinc, better in Tactics if you team mostly, best in BU.

noticed P.Transfer hasn't been used/suggested here yet. and might consider Ageless to help fight Def Debuff in end-game. if tight on slots, HOs are nice for Invuln (don't see em in too many builds anymore).

Went with Crane Kick over Cobra Strike for RP reasons, as I wanted a guy with all kicking attacks. Cross Punch is the one compromise, as it gives me a second aoe. I can live with the KB.

As far as Gaussians in Invincibility, I’ve heard that it not only has a chance to proc on me, but also a chance to proc on each foe around me. Haven’t confirmed it yet since I just got it slotted. If this isn’t true, I’ll definitely move it to tactics (or move the slot elsewhere).

Thunder Kick isn’t great, but I need filler attacks when exempting down.
