Please rework the skill Self Aid. When you need to use a self heal that is interruptable and you're in melee, you find yourself spamming the shit out of it for a successful spell cast.

Self Aid consumes the cost of the skill's endurance every single time you click the button regardless if you actually cast the skill or not. There are times when i have drained my entire bar of endurance without a single successful cast of Self Aid. It should NOT consume endurance on an unsuccessful casting of the skill.

It should because that's the intentional weakness of the power and it isn't meant to be a full on alternative to existing self-heals. The entire medicine pool is already very valuable to those without healing, and it becomes even better with field medic. Much like how all interruptable powers are besides rest, if you use them poorly they still cost endurance. If you enhance the interrupt time this issue does become negligible in most situations, however.

I would not mind if it was just interrupts that cause this to be an issue, but it consumes PER button click. When you're dying and get in a hurry it consumes endurance for every single time you spam the button thinking you're going to be interrupted. I lost my entire endurance bar one time cause i had like 2% of my HP bar left and thought the Aid Self skill wasn't going through in a hurry spammed the button, lost my entire bar of Endurance and didn't actually get interrupted except like 1 time. I slot 2x heal and 2x interrupt IOs in my self Aid skill..

 

I don't mind being interrupted. I mind losing my endurance because of being frantic. That is a rediculous penalty...

You can fairly reliably use Aid Self in combat once your relevant Defense is in the low 40's or better.

There's still no guarantee even at softcap, lucky hits will happen, but I have zero expectation to be able to use Aid Self in battle any earlier than that.

 

Alternately, if you have Caltrops or another area-denial power, you can run through a door, break line of sight, toss Caltrops behind you at the doorway, then Aid Self while they're busy realizing that it's no fun to step on sharp things.

 

Don't expect Aid Self to be a pool power that's just as reliable as Reconstruction or Dull Pain.

It was never intended to be.

 

As far as costing you endurance despite interrupt, well, I believe the Blaster snipes go on cooldown if you happen to be interrupted in battle. (which can happen if you start an out-of-battle snipe, and then get jumped by something else before it goes off).  Would you be okay with Aid Self not costing endurance but having to wait for it come off cooldown instead?  I think Aid Self is better as-is personally.

I have a new toon that is typically running around with 30-35% defense (I don’t care about the soft-cap meta) and has aid self + field medic with the former slotted 4 numinas, 2 interrupts. I comfortably use aid self in melee with enough reliability that I often use it solely for the endurance *boost*. If I was remotely worried about having to spam it, which I’m not, I’d just cut LoS for half a second.

 

Yeah, seeing no issues here.
