Hi all!

So one of my absolute favorite heroes that I have made is my Dark Armor/Staff Fighting Tanker. Staff Fighting I feel works great on a Tanker, with the extra defense and resistance ratios they get. He is pretty much an unkillable beast.

That being said, I’ve enjoyed Staff Fighting so much, I want to roll another. Stalker stuck out to me since they retain Staff’s AOE, but ALSO bring some nice single target damage. I’m curious if anyone has experience as a Staff Stalker, and what secondary they may recommend!

I was looking at:

Staff/Nin: Because Ninja. I also hear Nin is easy to soft cap and only requires a few power choices, so it opens up build diversity.

Staff/Bio: 25% damage from staff and damage boost from Offensive stance seems like it could HURT. Plus, it’s a a hybrid defense, so good options.

Staff/Elec: Staff might make sense with a resistance set on a stalker. Mostly due to the defense it gets from guarded spin.

Staff/Ice Armor: Ice seems to be a fairly robust set, and I don’t see it too often. Could be more of an original choice.

Staff/Willpower: I hear Willpower is a very “set and forget” defensive set. That could be a bonus for Staff, since it is one of the sets where you HAVE to deal with redraw. Not really having to click anything (other than the heal) could be nice.

Any other recommendations would be great!

Staff/Fire.

/Fire doesn't get enough recognition on the stalker forums. As you noted with Staff/Elec, staff will benefit resistance based armors. /Fire has decent resist numbers, a faster recharging heal than /elec, and burn. Burn can crit. With the right pairings or investment, it's not as bad a secondary as people discredit it for.

Step off the beaten path and give /fire a try.

Great suggestion! I’m an FA believer. My only fear is that it is too “clicky” of an armor set when paired with Staff (mandatory redraw).

Staff/Bio is a great pairing -- that's who I use for soloing TFs.  Staff/Fire would be similar.  I would consider both to be extremely offensive and AoE in play.  Good joss!

Nice! Do you ever find Bio's "click" powers to get in the way with Staff and it's redraw? I guess Carapace wouldn't be an issue since you cast it BEFORE you fight, but I could see DNA Siphon or Parasitic Aura being in it. But I guess, if you're procing Build Up, you're pulling your weapon out anyways.

And how are he TF's with /Bio? I know Bio is great, but I know some people don't like it for solo TF's due to it being weak to defense debuffs (gotta love Cims =P)

I use DNA Siphon as a PBAoE proc bomb, so I consider it part of my attack chain, and I often use Parasitic Aura as an opener in a fresh mob, so I only use Ablative Carapace as a spot heal when I need it.  I haven't really noticed a problem with it, but that might be because I've gotten used to it (I've even gotten used to my Staff/Regen brute, which is FAR more clicky).

I haven't soloed all "soloable" TFs with this guy (he got hung up on Lanaru the Mad, stupid auto hit Elementals), but yeah, you need to take out defense debuffers asap.  I don't generally have a problem with Cims, but I also don't aggro more than one group at a time.  Well, not on purpose.  And since I don't do Master runs, a little floor eating isn't the worst thing in the world as far as I'm concerned.

Nice man! Yeah, I love the "gets it done" approach as well 😛 I bet playing the Staff/Regen brute is like a dance 😂Do you have a build for your staff/bio by chance?

I've a Staff / Inv. He's pretty indestructible and click-lite which suits stupid "I-always-redraw" staff.

Nice man! I've always run invuln on Tankers and shied away from it on Scrappers/Stalkers due to lower resist caps... BUT I've been hearing that it is actually quite good on stalkers. It apparently doesn't give up much in the transition to them, power wise. Some say you're able to soft cap most defenses and most resists? Sounds pretty nice when you add in Guarded spin and the need to not really click anything other than Dull Pain.

That's the thing. Invul basically gives you a bit of everything defensively.

A bit of everything is a perfect base for an IO build. My two builds are at the end of this thread here. The Wintered version is quite silly numbers-wise. You need Guarded to hit Melee cap but Guarded is a nice cone anyway. The big downside of Staff is the damage type and the lack of NoRedraw (if you can live with that then get a Snipey epic like Mu).

Thanks man, I'll read through it! So if I don't mind the redraw, get a snipe in my epic you mean?

Seriously though, can they remove redraw from Staff? 😂 Not sure why they leave it there and take it away everywhere else. Must be SOME reason.

I think I've theory crafted something like this, but I'm not sure if it's the exact build I'm currently using.  The recharge is nuts on this one:

Appreciate this man! Staff seems like it can be a pretty fun set overall on a Stalker.

I have a Staff/Energy Aura Stalker that I really love.
She is a mutant that produces a friction free zone around her body. It pairs well with the twirling breakdancing type moves of Staff fighting.

Do you have a build you mind sharing? Or if anyone else has a staff/ea build. I don't have Mids, so the listed out build (v just the link) would be appreciated! I am really enjoying the combo, too, so I plan to put effort into it. Thanks!

While late to the thread I am going to hard no on any willpower stalker.

All those toggles and they took away Quick Recovery.  Brutal.
