I have a dark/dark concept and I'm trying to choose between brute or tank, I have a few questions if you don't mind?

 

First, how's the endurance?  I assume you're using consumption on cooldown, do you frequently need serums?  Do you feel you need to take ageless core when you get there?

 

Second, has the single zephyr IO been adequate for KB protection?

Endurance is fine.  At normal 50 play (+4 ITf, BAF, etc) i use Dark Consumption as a ghetto AoE.  Malta Sappers and Freakshow are not a real issue unless you get unlucky.  Some of the F-ing Rularuu and DE, in large quantites however.  Oof.  I keep a P2W recovery Serum charged for such occasions   I do run Cardiac Core, but even Exemplared Endurance is a lazy fix with Dark Consumption every 2 minutes or so tops.  Since it recharges in less than a minute that is never an issue.

 

I take Ageless for the Recharge, but mostly to get Soul Drain up.  That is the keystone to attack with Dark Melee.  

 

I fly all the time.  Not hover, fly.  Again, i have zero endurance issue.  So, one 4 pt KB prot is wonderful.  The rare times something gets through I just spin in the air.  KB Prot goes like this.  Less than 4, garbage.  4 is good.  5-11 is pretty much like 4 90% time, maybe 95%.  12 is really good.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but how are you avoiding knockback? I was against some Carnies, and they were tossing me like a pebble on the lake, and I was skipping over and over.

The build you linked appears to have Blessing of the Zephyr: KB Reduction in Fly as the source of KB protection.  4 points, which is what that provides, will not prevent very strong knockback, and you need 10-12 for better protection. 4 points is enough for most general content though.

Most of KB mitigation in this build is high ranged defense and to hit debuffs.   Even some of my Brutes roll with 4 pts ( my Dark Dark Brute i mained for 6 months, a resist armor at that). 
 

another key element is flying.  The character is always flying.  KB when flying is a pirouette.  Then you can attack again

Thank you most kindly. I think that was my problem. I wasn't off the ground.

But really 4 pts of KB prot should mitigate 95% of that stuff in game.  1-3 is not great. 4 is good. 5-7 is about the same as 4

Not sure but I think if you drop maneuvers you might be able to get evasive maneuvers in there somewhere. That is a +15 Def with no slotting to all defenses.

Damage, for Brutes is slightly above average.  It has a damage aura so it immediately lumps into the upper class.  ST for Dark has always been good.  Recent changes to game helped Shadow Maul which is not perfect now, but better.  Still Dark Melee needs Dark Armors Damage Aura to compete in AoE.  Survivability is incredibly good. This is due to Stealth, Stun Aura, Fear Aura, and to-hit debuffs doing the heavy lifting that lack of actual Defense would normally affect.  Top notch Armor.  Especially when built right. Best Heals in the game.  Bar None.  Survivability is incredibly good.  The build is a joy to run in Incarnate Trials. EXCEPT for the unavoidable large damage patches in the Battle Maiden TinPex run and the Lightning Crackle of Magisterium.  The large damage patches in Minds of Mayhem (Psi damage) are ignored by my build. They have no effect until he is in 3+ and then he hits his heal... GMs and AVs.  THis is no Pylon killer but again, damage is respectable and Tankiness is very good. So, A solid Brute for the work.

I use Touch of Fear specifically because i run Fear toggle AND the AoE change on it.  The combo was just too strong to ignore.  Dark is also awkward on attack chains so this gives another tool. Touch of Fear and Shadow Maul is a nice one-two in a crowded area
