Stunning tanker build

Hi everyone,

 

I thought I'd share this build I've been playing for a tanker that operates as a melee controller and essentially stuns everything within about five miles.  It's great fun to play - getting the "drinks on the house" wobbly stun effect on everyone is really satisfying - and really quite durable.  Bit expensive though. 

 

The goal of the build was to maximize stun even at the expense of resistance/defense - almost every power that could get a stun proc got one, and I tried to maximize stun duration - first time I've fully slotted a lot of these sets to be honest.  The Call of the Sandman proc in the sleep power is once again tremendous, I just love that extra heal!  Brutally end hungry though and so I went a little bit overboard on the end mod procs.

I rarely see anyone using Energy Melee, but I used to have a Fire/Energy tank that used disorient to make up for his somewhat lacking defenses, so I have a general feel for how it plays.
The Triumphant Insult disorient procs are interesting. Do they really contribute noticeably, given how much stun you already have? I wonder if they would work well in PBAoE toggles like Death Shroud and Oppressive Gloom.
I would be tempted to scrounge up some less-critical enhancements to capture the 6.25% +Recharge from 5-slotted Stupefy.
I'm inspired to try my own similar build, as soon as I have time....

I prefer to do damage rather than slot attacks with no damage and exclusively for secondary effects. Having said that...

 

For epic luls and hipster points make an Dark/Elec tank and slot the attacks with triumphant insult AND energy manipulator stun procs. Add lightning clap and thunder strike to taste. Grab mu mastery and electrifying fences for AoE immob and more Stun synergy.

I have an Elec/EA sentinel with the Manipulator proc in every attack (and Drain for good measure) ... but this, well, it's just better isn't it! 😄

 

Interesting to see Razzle in OG instead of AA % -ToHit.

I generally don't play tanks because they are too easy, but come up with a good aoe immobilize for scrappers and I'll send more inf your way.

Hmm.. now that's a thinker!

 

Corrosive Vial has a slightly better proc rate than Ball Lighting/Fireball (both broadly the same for procs), but all three (as well as Claws:Shockwave, unless Mids is incorrect) can slot tAoE sets, which opens up SFB: % Immobilize.

 

I thought there was a way to get % Immob from someplace else, but off the top of my head I don't recall.

 

Spines/Stone slotted with IMT sets could wind up near as makes no difference to an immob with all the -spd/-rech that it could pack.  I didn't care for the way Spines gets short-changed with respect to Brimstone, but other than that a pretty solid combo.

Hmm..

 

I might have spoken too soon about Corrosive.  Mids doesn't show a damage value or accuracy value for it.  A 3.5ppm Bombardment shows 64.58 fire damage in mids - which is a solid rate of fire, but a quick glance at CoD shows that it calls what is probably a pseudo-pet, so the mids numbers might not reflect that with the Bomb%fire I was using for reference.  The good news is that if it is accurate, it appears that it has some space for a little recharge slotting before the rate drops.  The other good news is that if one wanted to get really crazy one could drop 2 -Res pieces in it as well.

Honestly I haven't noticed any impact from the triumphant insult procs, they're in there purely for overkill purposes.  I like the idea of trying them in the toggles though.  Nice thinking!

Sorry for digging up an old post, but I'm doing some testing with a claws/ea scrapper and put this proc and the Perfect Zinger chance for damage on Entropic Aura. According to the combat log they are both hitting, but only the damage is showing, guys are never being stunned. I'm testing as a 50 standing next to level 43 guys. I also have a stun proc from Energy Manipulator in my Energy Drain power, and that works, so they can be stunned, but seems like the Triumphant Insult proc does nothing.

Dont bother. They are Mag 1, which only affects minions with a 3-second stun. You’re better off giving them away for converting into something useful.

The only real candidate is Dark Mastery (I’d like AoE that can stop basses).  Tenebrous Tentacles with supe Frozen Blast proc.
