Troo Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 (edited) This request/suggestion pops up from time to time but I didn't find it in a quick search: A way to export a character list with more information than is found in playerslot.txt A good place to start might be with something like the playerslot.txt list and add some (below in blue): "username" "shard" "character name" "slot number" "level" "archetype" "primary" "secondary" The character list screen also includes other data which may not be as helpful. current zone days offline current alignment Folks have also requested additional data from time to time. badge count infamy/influence count Any other additions or nice-to-have items? Lead Game Master GM Impervium Posted April 6, 2022 Lead Game Master Posted April 6, 2022 While neat, some of this might not be tenable. From what I understand (and this may be incorrect, if so, apologies), if there's a mismatch between the server and playerslots.txt, then the character just doesn't show up, and the whole file has to be deleted and recreated on login. This would make something like "days offline" problematic, since that number is always changing. Similar thing with level. I'm not sure if the game writes to the file during gameplay or not; so if you log in your level 10 blaster, gain a few levels, switch characters, then try to go back again, the blaster might not appear as they're no longer level 10. Again, this is based on my limited understanding. If we could get around these issues (assuming it works the way I think it does), then that'd be swell. Though if the devs WERE going to do something like this, I feel they should take it a step further and make it a .csv file so that a player could open the file in Excel or other spreadsheet program, and order the columns/characters by name, level, etc. Otherwise, without some way to organize the data, I see little point in populating a user file with all that info. 2 GM ImperviumHomecoming FAQ; Need a hand? Troo Posted April 6, 2022 Author Posted April 6, 2022 I'd be good with a csv file. I think others would too. The playerslot.txt file is only mentioned because it contains a list which is unavailable elsewhere. We don't need to be messing with the actual playerslot.txt file. If level was problematic I think folks would be okay with that left off. Though if I remember correctly we did have tools which parsed the server data for characters with level. From observation, the file is only created/modified when the game syncs to the server (and something has changed) when loading the character screen. If you look for my really old post on it, then you'll see that you have to back out of the server list for manual edits to show up in-game. Once you're in the game, then the file shouldn't have a reason to be open from a coding standpoint. So if the above was made live, then it would only be updated when you load the character screen for each server. WanderingAries Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 (edited) The bulk of the suggestions used to be handled on live by 3rd party apps that basically skimmed the RAM (or was it the chat?) during the game being run. Long ago when the launcher really was beta, it was mentioned that there were plans to create such an API level access to things so that someone could safely make an app for whatever purpose while not impacting the integrity of the installation. Granted, they also said they were looking into adding a Mod feature too, but I poked @The Philotic Knight dragon for that one it seems. 😛 Edited April 7, 2022 by WanderingAries OG Server: Pinnacle <||> Current Primary Server: Torchbearer || Also found on the others if desired <||> Generally Inactive Installing CoX: Windows || MacOS || MacOS for M1 <||> Migrating Data from an Older Installation Clubs: Mid's Hero Designer || PC Builders || HC Wiki || Jerk Hackers Old Forums <||> Titan Network <||> Heroica!
