I’m fond of my Necro/Nature and Necro/Sonic. /cold is almost always an amazing answer (shields, +def uniques, and -ToHit = potent layering). Lots of good tools there too. What is it you want to do with your Necro?

Well, I have Demon/Dark (great offense & debuffs), Beasts/Kin (kinda meh), and Thugs/Time (kinda middle ground) ... I'd like to feel closer to my Demons/Dark in terms of offesnse and defense/debuffs while not repeating a secondary.  I have /Nature and /Cold corrs, so I was kinda interested in something new.

The new Force field has some debuffs. Could layer up well with Necro's resists.

Storm summoning could work well with Necro. It has the extra damage and debuffs and can fill some of the weaker resists that necro has. It also has a small heal to help top minions up. FF procs to get the soul extraction up earlier. It could be very chaotic lol.

Necro/cold  is a fantastic combo.....very strong with all the recent updates to necro. Another solid pairing would be necro/storm........can never go wrong with storm. A Dark horse is necro/thermal because flaming zombies are awesome

Good call, forgot to mention i made a /FF corr post changes too.  Hence my interest in /Therm or /Pain or/Sonic or /Traps or /Elec as sets not yet played.  But I'm getting the impression they are all not Tier1 for Necro.

I think Sonic would be a really solid combo. Aggressively slotting Sonic Barrier/Haven/Dispersion would provide around +41% res to S/L/F/C/E/N/T. Pet gets resistances to S/C/N/T/P that are buffed with the first upgrade. Tack on +35% res from Sovereign/Expedient/ATO2. Pet resistances would look something like this if Enchant Undead is slotted up as well:

           Zo          GK         Li

Sm    107%    118%    128%

Le       76%      76%      76%

Fi        76%      76%      76%

Co    107%     118%    128%
En      76%       76%      76%

NE    107%    118%    128%

To     107%    118%    128%

Ps       66%      77%      87%

Sonic doesn't have a heal but Necro pets are pretty self-reliant now. Self-heal and can slot Numina, Regenerative Tissue and the Panacea proc. Enemies will have a lot of alternate targets with other pets to attack keeping the main pets safer. Also Sonic's mez protection will buy pets time to heal themselves/kill things more efficiently. The best thing about Sonic is the -res debuffs are not helping 6 pets kill faster, it's helping up to 15 pets kill faster.

I made one of these and it's sitting in the 30's. Where would you put the Num/RT and panacea procs?

Also Sonic may be due some developer love in the near future. I think it was one of the sets mentioned.

The challenge for /sonic on a mastermind is ensuring there is sufficient recovery to keep everything humming. It can be ameliorated at with Cardiac (at 50) somewhat, and the resistance boosts are pretty cake. However, I found that I needed Panacea (AND Numina, AND Miracle) for the character and not the pets (although on my Necro/Dark, panacea works perfectly to give the pets an additional flow of health and endurance). If enough heal IOs are slotted, the pets do a very decent job keeping themselves up under most conditions. I also took Heal Other for sporadic spot healing; I use it maybe twice a mission (+3/8, albeit Council). The +Regen proc seems too little for my taste, but might work well with Spirit Ward, if that’s a direction you’re inclined to take.

@StrikerFox’s resistance estimates are right on target (just checked in game). And it’s a beast of a combo, especially with tricked out Bonfire and the KD proc in the zombies.

I would try to make the build so that the MM can function effectively without Numina's and Panacea, and then slot them in Dark Empowerment. Only slotting RT (In DE) if there's a spare slot. If the build has endurance issue, MM takes priority.

I'm having a great deal of fun with a necro/elec right now.  She's tough, too.  Those extra minions from the blasts help a lot.
I'm usually a bit cautious when it comes to increasing the difficulty while soloing.  I generally don't touch it until the mid to late 20s at the very earliest.

With my necro/elec, I started turning up the diff at lvl 8 and I've never looked back, so this combo definitely gets my vote.

I'm starting to consider going back to Necro/Cold, but I really don't know much about Necro slotting.  Can you / should you put more procs into Soul Extraction (it now works on pets without them having to be dead?).  Should the BU proc for pets go into Grave Knights?  Is the KD OF proc better off in Zombies?

Also not loving Scorpion Shield ... maybe just give up personal def and go for Bonfire?

I ran out of slots hence Sorc pool as placeholder.

This is what I decided to test.  PB+Bubbles on top of the inherent Res of pets.  Decent def for self, esp. with purples.  Can avoid Clarion due to Dispersion.  Bubbles now has some OK baked in -RES and def debuff resist / Damping Bubble goodness.  I tried to do /Cold and /Nature builds but I wasn't sure they'd be as good for the Pets (though absorb is tempting with PB).  Empty slot in Soul Extract is for Unbreakble Constraint dmg proc.

As an afternote, I seem to be able to soft-cap the pets to about everything with PowerBoosted bubbles - and the bubbles appear to affect both the Soul Extraction pets and even the Spectres (afaik, though it could just be visual).

Does Soul Extraction have to be cast with you targeting a pet, post changes?  Sometimes it looked like I could have a mob targeted and cast Soul Extraction and it would still work, other times no.  If the answer is that a pet has to be targeted, anyone have a good macro to target a pet and then cast it?

I’ve never had to target a pet to get soul extraction to work since the new changes.
