Anyone have some good IO'ing tricks to help max out of the survivability of a Dark Melee / Willpower Brute? Or a build that plays as more or less indestructible?

 

With my early Mids efforts, I'm getting capped Def to S/L and F/C but E/N is only at about 30% and none of the resists are anywhere near the cap (S/L is closest in the high 60s). 

 

Regen's a bit over 600% and Max HP is up around 2400 with the accolades in effect which is more of both than I have on a lot of builds, I just don't have a good sense of how resilient that will be in actual play.

I have no clue but here's something possible,

Really not fussed about f/c def when i play wp toons but i am concerned about s/l resistance and e/ne defence. Problem is its dm and i can't get those without dropping recharge which i want for soul drain. I'd drop shadow maul/touch of fear and replace it with crosspunch and an ff+rech.

Couple of initial thoughts.

 

You are overslotted for LotG, insofar as you have of the LotG +recharge slotted six times and the game will only give you credit for five of those.  I think you are overslotted for defense as well -- I think I see that you are trying to get as much typed defense as possible, but your melee defense (which is going to play the biggest role as a brute) is much higher than I would build for.

 

You are also overbuilt for endurance recovery -- I don't think you need nearly that much, or even need all those powers.

 

And there are a lot of things you should be working into the build.  Things like Steadfast +def and Glad Armor +def (which give a total of +6 def to all) as well as Shield Wall +res and Steadfast Protection +res.

 

Let me take a longer look.  The problem with Willpower in my opinion (other than it's *yawn* BO-RING) is that you only get one reactive tool in Strength of Will so when things go sideways you don't have a lot of options.  "Most survivable" will focus on a layered approach of defense, healing, resistance, and perhaps some other mitigation.  From looking at your build, I'll try to keep things to basic set IOs (with a few PvPs thrown in).

Yeah, I caught some of the problems with the build about a day after I posted it. The final build brought the LotGs down to 5, added in the two resist set +Def IOs and still got to soft capped Melee, Smash and Lethal defense.

 

Shield is a boring set, but that's a feature in this case since the goal of the build was to give something to a 72 year old player who's not particularly careful about which powers he presses in which order. Boring with tons of defense and an inexhaustible supply of End means no need to pay attention, you can just charge into everything and have fun.

I loved Willpower on live.  In the modern game with inherent fitness and a strong build?  Fughedaboutit.  I can easily tell you hiw yo make s Dark Melee Willpower Brute an order of magnitude stronger!   
 

Reroll this as a Dark Melee Invulnerability Brute. You will solve all the problems you are trying to address of survival in tougher content and give up nothing (in Effective terms). I am not kidding. I ran a Dark Invul for about six months on HC and for about a year and a half on live.  Dark and Invul fit together hand and glove.  Get a Hyperstrike build and never look back

Yeah, Willpower deals with Sappers like this "Ha ha, you so funny!  It tickles.  Do it again, do it again!"

 

I avoid slows (caltrops/tar pit) on most situations by flying.  I fly 99% time.

Maybe my WP character isn't far enough along (in their 30s) to be able to shrug off sappers. 

 

I do not mean slow movement slow, but rather -Recharge.

-rech can be resisted by sets such as the Winter sets and the Winters Gift global from Travel sets.

Guess I will have to endure until acquiring them. But will likely work on a coupe of other characters first.

You've also got 2 slot Fury of the Gladiator, and 3 slot Synapse Shock on the low side... and on the higher side 5 slot Shield Wall, 5 slot Gladiators Armor, and 4 slot Thrust. All those are 10-50 sets aside from Thrust which is 20-50. 10% each and if you're running DM/WP they got a few places you can put them.
