Coffeh Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 I've been thinking about this for a long time, but never bothered to post about it. But sense we have the nice new update to the full auto in the assault Rifle pool, which is great BTW. I never really liked the time bomb. You have to set it, and then only have a couple of seconds before it explodes. I always thought this kind of limited the use of it, because the enemy may move, or if you are say wanting to set the bomb on a patrol that is approaching, the timing may be off and you will miss your target. Can we just make it more like a Remote Detonator? I don't think changing the amount or type of damage is needed, that is just fine. The idea I see is it would be a double click on your power tray, the first time to click the power button it sets the bomb just like it does now but it will not explode in seconds. Instead the power button will have a ring set around it indicating the bomb is armed, and will only explode extreme damage when clicked the 2nd time. So you can set the bomb like around a corner where your Melee guys is planning on herding some baddies, and this will give plenty of time to gather them up, get them all to the kill zone, and stand back and BOOM! As a safety measure, if the bomb is detonated in say 3min's (just under the standard recharge time) the bomb will auto detonate, but a far less damage capacity. Well this is my idea anyway. Hope you guys like it as a possible change? 2 1 5
Uun Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 100% in favor of this for both the Devices and Traps versions of Time Bomb. Pretty sure this has been suggested before, as the Mastermind version of Traps already has Detonator instead of Time Bomb. Also, can we get rid of the 9 second interruptible cast time on the Traps version? 1 Uuniverse
flinlock Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Yes, please! That would make it a million times more useful. 1
SpartacusCole Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 I would also prefer it if Tome Bomb had/was a remote detonate. It's so hard to--no pun intended--time it properly when I put it down. I would also settle for turning it into a hand-grenade-tossing power :d. Maybe an incendiary one that leaves a small field of fire? 1 1
Saiyajinzoningen Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 OP is suggesting a tactical use of abilities VS pewpew/smash? I am 100% for this but................. considering the reception storm got for being just slightly more strategic to play. (not me tho i love it) This upgrade (and yes its definitely an upgrade) may not be well received by the: Purists /Jrangers Power Creep crew you got my vote though 1 Its easy to criticize a suggestion but can you suggest an alternative?
Gerswin Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 You could also make it a destructible object (like oil slick) with a long timer. It is still a time bomb, but if you shoot it then you can control when it detonates.
Etched Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 I could see this being useful. I rescently made a AoS for Sunday SG play and I took Time Bomb or whatever it's call for the soilders but it was pointless when the rest of the team had the mobs kiled before the damn thing even would go off. Wasted effort and end. I respec'd out of it. We are currently in our mid 40s not kitted out 50s. A change would be nice to a power that sucks in my opinion. Make it remote/destrutable or shorten the time. For now it'll remain as a power I CAN take and not a power I DID take. @Etched

Make it possible for the player to trigger the detonation by some means, sure, but it already only has a duration of 21 seconds before detonation as compared to the 260 second duration of trip mine. And for players like me, that like to set up traps to draw targets into, losing duration would be problematic.
Zect Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 This is the only suggestion I have ever encountered in this forum that made me think "yes, we need this". However, I will propose some improvements. The bomb should damage players as well, so that the bomber needs to retreat to a safe distance before setting it off for realism (otherwise you just set and detonate immediately, and it basically becomes a melee attack). I also want to be able to put sticky bombs on teammates, the trainer NPCs, and random passers-by. 2

I also want to be able to put sticky bombs on teammates, the trainer NPCs, and random passers-by. I don't see that happening. That would make it possible to grief players and troll missions. Want to upset starting characters? Put the time bomb on Ms. Liberty and watch the low levels die. Want to frustrate players? Place a time bomb at a location where escort NPCs tend to get snagged and kill the NPCs, maybe even PCs trying to get the NPC to move again. (Edit: Or like some players did routinely in WoW, where they would kill a mission contact, then run a circuit killing the other contacts in the zone until they got back to the starting target, wait for the contact to respawn, then run the circuit again killing the contacts because they thought it was fun to prevent anyone from doing missions in the zone.) So yeah, no. Edited August 24, 2023 by Rudra 1 1
