Rudra
I understand that when I change between hero and villain alignments, the respective zones for the alignment I was get filled in. (I have no idea why, but I do get it.) However, I've been finding that even on characters that I haven't changed alignments on, zone maps still get filled in for the fog of war. This happens most often on characters I haven't played in a while, but it also happens occasionally to characters I've played in the past week. Arc-Mage
The game has worked that way since live. The best guess I can come up with is that the game remembers specific location points you have crossed. Example: you are traveling point A to C and just hit the corner of point B along the way, when you log out it won’t remember you crossed the corner of B. Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it just means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own. With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility. Rudra
I can get that part, but the game is completely filling in the entire zone when I log back on. For instance, I was running around Cap au Diable on a villain character after havign leveled up through Mercy Island and Port Oakes. I logged off the character. Not even a full week later I logged back on the character and my character was sitting in the middle of Cap au Diable (because I had logged off at the training Arbiter) with absolutely none of Cap au Diable explored. Pop over to PO? Map is completely darkened as if I had never been there. Same with Mercy Island. So it isn't the map adjusting for where fog of war blocks may or may not have been clipped. It is the entire zone fills back up with the fog of war.
AboveTheChemist
You may already know this but the game stores the fog of war in individual files for each character, and what you describe sounds like something may be deleting those files, which will cause the fog to reset. If you are using the HC launcher, they are stored in a subfolder in <CoH Root>/accounts/<your_account_name>. I don't recall the exact subfolder name but I think it is something like maps or visited_maps. I suspect that is not the issue here, but it might not hurt to check to see if those are getting deleted somehow between play sessions just to rule it out. Popmenus > Badge List | Optimal Paths | Conversion Possibilities | Emotes Wiki Pages > Costume Color Schemes | Set Bonus Comparison Tables Maps > Vidiotmaps | Optimal Paths | Halloween GM Maps | Winter Gift Maps | Offline Map Viewer Sounds > Banshee Sonic Attack Datasets > Recipe Salvage Components | Badge Name & Settitle ID | Exploration Badge & History Plaque Coordinates

And they aren't being deleted between play sessions, because it never affects characters I've played in the past few days. It affects characters that have been logged off for approximately 1 week, with the chances of it being filled in increasing the longer it has been since I played the character to a point. That is, it is never guaranteed to happen and I would say it occurs roughly 30% or so of the time to characters I haven't played in a while.
