Usually AI feels like more of a surrender than satisfaction for me. Maybe it is because I used to commission—wish I still had money to do that—and its easier to get what you want.

That said, even with kind of funky gun on her back and her just randomly firing into the ground, I kind of love how this came out. This was Chat-GPT. I shared the bio and a screen shot and it had kicked out a cool but cartoony version. I replied "Cool but could you do one a little more photoreal?" and it gave me this. I like it!

I futzed around with Pixlr and the iPad clean-up and got this. Using one’s finger on a tablet is like painting with a cinder block but it’s okay I guess.

I made a Siren-like character and threw it into Midjourney. Also made a song about it.

These are beautiful in a really haven't ever thought like that before way and oil painting inspired ones are my favorite, but they're all dark and beautiful. and the song has similar parts of Dido's song Thank you in it, good vibes.

PyroStorm a Blue Flame heroine  Storm Summoning Corruptor

Her top in game is bridal barbarian fur shoulders, and she has the baroque mask, witch bottom, with witch plain gloves, and witch boots, organic wings, bio animated tail, and cloud with lightning aura running and blazing aura.  I uploaded a screenshot to help with image creation and then input more information and these are the creations. I like them. The first image is without a lot of input from me, the second has more input on her.

Her bio:  No one in Paragon knows exactly where she came from. Some say she walked out of the wreckage of a collapsed storm research station in the Arctic Circle. Others claim she was part of a military experiment: code name: Project Tempest. What is known: she arrived in Paragon 5 years ago, barefoot, burned, and boiling with blue fire that didn't melt the snow around her.  A government used her. A storm nearly killed her. Something woke up in her during that near-death moment: a violent fusion of elemental power blue flame that eats through steel, and a storm core in her chest that crackles with lightning and fury. She doesn't wear a cape. Doesn't smile for the cameras. While the other heroes of Paragon hold press conferences and pose for statues, she's on the streets torching gang operations, frying rogue AI units, and ripping corrupt CEOs out of their high-rise bunkers. When she flies, the sky turns electric. When she lands, people either cheer or run.

In my experience the so-called "A. I." does not come close to recognizing the intentions of the person behind the computer (let's not call him an artist). It only churns something up that is completely approximate and in the desired general direction at most. Better models and cleverer input probably let one get more or less what one wants, but since this is never going to be as controlled as drawing a pen or brush, I don't see a point in mastering this. But the results can be amusing.

I'm curious - if a writer is not themselves good at drawing, and they provide a detailed description of what they envision one of their characters looking like to someone who is good at drawing, to produce an image of that character, is that writer also an artist or no?

Trying ChatGPT + DALL-E 3. Not great at perfectly recreating inputs, but good at segmenting an image. Handy for stitching together different things happening at once.

I was inspired by the recent launch of "Doom: The Dark Ages" to do a character in the style of late 90s first-person shooters. "Enforcer 97".

If the description somehow deserves to be called art rather than simply being "detailed," its author may be an artist - a writer artist, specifically. It doesn't make him a painter.

Sure, sure.  My point is that a poet is "an artist", a musician is "an artist", and so is a writer.  Just as adapting a comic book to a cartoon or live action may require voice artists and musicians to fully realize it, a painter may need inspirational input or even a fully fleshed out description, sometimes with detailed backstories, etc, in order to bring about their art, as well...
