Burnt Toast Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Back in pre-sunset CoH I had a level 50+++ Dark/Dark Defender. There were many different ways a Dark/Dark could be played; even more so if you were a Dark/Dark/Dark. I was never a fan of the D3, but I did love my D2. I have not remade this character yet as I am not sure which server I will be putting them on. This character is good solo or on teams. It is soft capped to ranged defense and decent melee/aoe defense as well. One of the benefits of a dark/dark is the amount of -tohit and -res the powers contribute to your survivability and damage. Anyways - here is my take on a Dark/Dark Defender - Global: @Fixxer Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! HoundsTooth Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Why wait until level 41 to get Fearsome Stare? That is one of the best powers in Dark: soft control and a huge accuracy debuff.
Burnt Toast Posted April 29, 2019 Author Posted April 29, 2019 The level I take powers changes from Mids to actual live. I would take it asap and delay something else generally. I did this build super quick to figure out slotting etc.
Nightmarer Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Awesome build, I would use these tweaks though: Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! Was planning a S/L softcapped build for a D3 Defender but will most likely use this one on due time.
Adeon Hawkwood Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 I always regretted not playing a Dark/Dark/Dark Defender. It looked incredibly fun I was just never able to come up with a concept (or at least a costume) that I actually liked for one. I think I'm going to have to put some more effort into coming up with something I like for it. Defender Smash!
StarseedWarrior Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Dark/Dark was always one of the most versatile sets, not to mention a more unique way to heal your team, way more fun then a standard healer.
Marshal_General Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 Why skip Moonbeam? With enough accuracy it becomes insta-cast as of issue 24. Snipe powers (such as Blazing Bolt and Sniper Blast) will lose the long, interruptable wind-up when the character has at least a 22% To Hit buff. Ranged attack sets without Snipe powers (Dual Pistols, Ice Blast, Sonic Attack, and Water Blast) will be looked at to ensure they remain competitive after the Snipe change. Dual Pistols, specifically, will have some of its animation times shortened to increase its damage per activation time in addition to other mechanical improvements.

Yipp Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 Great thread! I am a level 50 (Just this weekend) D3 Corruptor and never played with the IO Sets in the old days. Here is a link to the post I made in the corruptor forums https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,3060.0.html Not trying to hijack the thread :P but trying to get some common advice from ya'all! Powers I am not using: Dark Pit, Black Hole, Oppressive Gloom, and Moonbeam. While Moonbeam can get to instant cast on occasion, I find I have a solid rotation with Gloom, Dark Blast, Life Drain, TT etc... that it is the least important of my damage abilities. I see you choose not to use Torrent which is a power on the bubble for me too. What is your thinking/reasoning on dumping Torrent? If I do not use torrent I am thinking Maneuvers or Vengeance, paired with Assault & Tactics. Would it be smarter to grab Tough/Weave & lose the offensive Assault & Tactics? Great info so far!
Raevyn_Darke Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 The very first character I ever made (waaaay back in CoH pre-launch beta, lol) was dark/dark, and she's been my main ever since. The set has had its ups and downs, but I've always enjoyed it. However, since I'm a lousy number cruncher, I usually just find a suggested build that sounds good, swap out the things I find most fun, and go with it. ;D I like the idea of including the fighting pool for additional survivability, but I'm debating how I'd fit it in. Main travel power has always been fly (the concept is related to ravens, and she has wings, so...). I've usually also taken Leadership, Speed (just Hasten), and Teleportation (just Recall Friend; it's handy for team travel reasons, but I mostly take it for being able to port dead teammates close together for group rez). I'm curious whether I'd be better to drop Hasten or Leadership... or just stick with my usual pools and try to not die. ;) Thoughts?
ed_anger Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 . I'm curious whether I'd be better to drop Hasten or Leadership... or just stick with my usual pools and try to not die. ;) Thoughts? You can test this. Try not using Hasten, and see how things go. Then don’t turn on the leadership toggles, and compare. I have the same question.
ed_anger Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 i’ve personally decided to drop leadership post50, it was great leveling for the team, but everyone seems to be massively buffed post50. Survivability as a squishy is still an issue, so taking tough and weave instead.
