I do not wish to debate your philosophy - you're entitled to play however you wish!

But, I was wondering if you were aware that when you sell for 1 inf - and on those occasions someone has anticipated such an offer and you complete the sale - you are charged 5 inf, so you really lose 4 inf on that.

Now, we're all smart enough to know we're not going to lose sleep over 4 inf. Well, most won't. I was just wondering if you were aware the AH takes a minimum of 5 inf, even if you list at 1 inf.

I did not.  Of course, since I come out millions of influence ahead every time I sell my inventory, there's zero reason for me to be bothered by that, so it's a bit of an irrelevant issue to my play experience.  Other players may feel differently, of course, and that's just fine.  We all have the freedom to set our asking price to whatever we think appropriate.  🤷‍♂️

I'm lazy and consider my time more valuable than optimizing every penny on a transaction. So unless I am absolutely double dog dare sure that I want to go to the effort of self crafting and attuning a recipe, I dump them all on the AH and my pricing scheme is a simple recipe level x 100 when listing.

Which in itself is ultimately arbitrary once one knows how the current market works, but it's fast. There's usually enough people aware of arbitrage via enhancement converters at work on the market to keep sell prices prices semi decent either way.

And even if inventory is moving slow, it's not like I get charged a time fee for old listings. They'll sell eventually. The approach is effective enough for me to be able to regularly drop 4-5 million on fresh alts and get them into self funding territory within a day or three of casual play. No farms or anything hardcore. Just running TF's when I feel like it and playing like some sort of normie. I've only had one windfall (from a very generous poster in this very thread), and to be honest, once I actually bothered to stay on a character into the 40+ range, I wouldn't have needed even that to achieve critical mass.

I look at the AH as my own personal bank that stores all my goods and influence, and also provides many services for a small fee. Notably, it will convert my ancient bones to spell inks, attune my enhancements, and change the level of my recipes/enh. It will also convert enh and recipes to other types.

So I dump all my salvage and recipes into the bank for a low, sell-now price; I don't craft any of them unless it's a very valuable recipe. Then I withdrawl low cost recipes to craft and convert, and have the AH perform it's attunement service on my enh, or I leave the enh in the AH and earn interest. I can deposit my enh and withdrawl it at any later date; it will always be there without me needing to manage inventory or move things between characters.

I don't enjoy the market game and would rather not have to play it, but I've found this way of using it to be the most useful and least bothersome.

I do enjoy customizing my characters with enhancement sets.  But I wish it was free to do that (and no, I don't think eliminating that  grind would make the game boring for me.  There are so many combinations of  IO's, AT's and powersets and so many combinations of parts to make costumes and bases, that I could literally play those aspects of this game, along with missions, and never get bored.  Futzing with the market is what bores me).

Mine opinion is that the whole inf grind is boring for most players, and a barrier to entry for new players. I'd seed the auction house with every enhancement at some low level. Maybe 1,000 inf for each enhancement that can be slotted before level 50, and 10,000 inf for each requiring level 50.

Think of it this way: for how many players is influence not an important part of gameplay? Influence just isn’t a thing for most long-time players. Because we either have a nest egg of influence we'll never deplete, or we engage in boring influence grinding as needed.

I think it’s better to just open up enhancements to be free or minimal cost.

Any player that is struggling for enough influence for slotting generally just ask to ask teammates to get some. Maybe not as much as they want, but some.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Influence was an important part of the game when I had none.

The struggle to acquire resources and gear is part of playing an MMO.  It's fun to climb the power curve.  Dropping new players on top of the curve robs them of any satisfaction in getting there on their own.  CoH is already an easy game in that regard, it doesn't need to be made easier IMO.

I'm of a mixed mind on this. On the one hand, the grind to a trillion inf was interesting. It kept me engaged with the game. (I no longer have that much, as I've given away billions upon billions) That said, when I would do certain challenge characters that start with zero, I do recall the sting of not having the inf to get the enhancements I wanted. And I know at least most of the tricks in getting things about as efficiently and cheaply as you can get them. I can't imagine what it would be like to be as ignorant as I was when I first started. But then, I was so ignorant when I was new, I'm sure I didn't consider the learning curve, because all was had was TO, DO and SO, (and HOs).

I think for now, let the struggle continue. But I am a bit biased, as I enjoyed that struggle.
