Can I join the global channel without joining the group on a bunch of characters?

IIRC the Repeat Offenders were more social-and-teaming with a slant towards high performance shenanighanry involving buffers/debuffers (all-defender TFs stacking insane levels of debuffs on things, etc) rather than Roleplaying. They had specialized squads of particular powersets/ATs such as an all-kinetics SG ("Pinball Wizards" IIRC?) But if they're on Everlasting these days (and they didn't intentionally move there to escape all the dumb on Excelsior) ... maybe? 🤔🥸👮🏽♂️👷🏻♂️🤠 Edited November 18 by Maelwys

There is no RP focus, though occasionally some people will play toons and RP them. Yes, most of us these days have our toons in private SGs and just use the global channel instead of specifically being in the RO SGs. 6 hours ago, Maelwys said: IIRC the Repeat Offenders were more social-and-teaming with a slant towards high performance shenanighanry involving buffers/debuffers (all-defender TFs stacking insane levels of debuffs on things, etc) rather than Roleplaying. RO's roots are in pushing the game to its limits using force multiplication. The early SGs on live were all about stacking specific buffs/debuffs. Nowadays, we're more casual, though most ROers will generally play (de)buffers first and foremost. What this team needs is more Defenders

Well I can't say anything about the other servers but excelsior has a great feel, The people are nice and helpful. The annoying people are kind of "annoying in an entertaining way" Some people have great online personalities. I would say most people are here to have fun and have fun together. Wait... do you know the secret handshake right...... RIGHT??..... OMG
Water Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Ya know it's pretty good. Always has been. It (we) move in waves. Those moved to ignore us have since left, those we ignore learn and stay and vice/versa. Personally I don't ignore anyone for long and it would have to be really bad to do so. At worst I unignore everyone by each December. All round we are an enthusiast group now and are mainly supportive of each other. I've observed several obnoxious newcomers be levelled by our community to become one of us or take their bile somewhere else. So yeah, we are pretty cool. 2 1
Akalabeth Posted November 20 Posted November 20 I was in General Chat (since the community is good that should be good right?) Half a dozen people complaining about how the game isn't what they want and how they want to change a lot but have played for many years. -_- There's a whole suggestions subforum because a lot of people want to change things to better suit them. It's like this all over. If only we could ____. If they added/changed _____. Then there is the snark and especially the RAGE about how America is hell. When did everyone get so old and grumpy? As far as I know, most people turn off general chat. Listen to it to hear what the community is like. Or you know... make it a nicer place.

The first thing I do on every character is turn off General Chat. Every once and I while, I turn it on - say something completely silly, like, "Wow, the Lusca mini-pet is so interesting!" and then turn it back off. In my marketing days, I would say something like "Sorry, I think the Miracle +Recovery is much better than the Numina +regen/end" and then say, "MT". Invariably, the miracles I had for sale would seemingly sell faster. I'm sure that's just a perception bias, but it didn't stop me from doing it, lol. Please, though, let's not discuss anyone's rage, unless it's in the context of a super-strength powerset power. Or Snarky's rage at the behavior of one of his random pug teams.

I mean, we are talking about a 20+ year old game, so it's only natural that the bulk of the players would be older. The grumpy part? Well, I chalk that up to a matter of interpretation... 49 minutes ago, Akalabeth said: Then there is the snark and especially the RAGE about how America is hell. You know things can't be that bad if people have the time and resources to logon to an online game and complain. I would argue that, since tone/inflection does not convey well via text-chat, it's hard to distinguish between sarcasm, trolling, or even genuine sentiment...
lemming Posted November 20 Posted November 20 I refuse to turn off General because a small percentage of people can't follow the code of conduct.
Magical Posted November 23 Posted November 23 the suggestions forum is always going to be a joke. people don't make suggestions that will benefit the game as a whole, they make suggestions to benefit their playstyle, their vested interests and their preferred content at the expense of everyone else. This isn't a problem unique to coh, most mmo suggestions forums will have the same issue. This goes equally for both people making suggestions and the ones commenting on them. the gold standard testers discord is just as bad. there are people with neither jobs nor lives who camp in there all day long and if you post something against their biases they will immediately pop out of the woodwork and start arguing and sealioning you until your voice is drowned out. Some of them post hundreds of messages per day. The good news is the developers manage to put out good changes despite all the dreck surrounding them. As long as you avoid giving feedback on the game and turn off gen chat, you'll find the community excellent. 1
JJDrakken Posted November 23 Posted November 23 It just depends who you are and who you interact with. Some folks are fantastic to each, while others terrible. I've received a lot of the terrible(hate speech, death threats, etc..) over really stupid shit. My build post and my 1 team rule. While I've received fantastic interactions with folks. Some who've actually helped me out with RL issues. So it's a mixed bag of nuts. I guess you can join that weird ass Panda Cult in general chat. 😛
Rishidian Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Has anyone noticed wmtyrance hasn't posted in the group since the first OP? 4 pages in 2 weeks, and no response. Doesn't it make you wonder? Maybe we were to *TOXIC* for them. Here's my hypothesis: --No, he didn't have friends that quit because it was too toxic. Maybe he did. Who cares. What's their point? We all have friends that don't play anymore. This isn't surprising. But it appears to me wmtyrance was just trying to troll us. Perhaps we need to adjust our Troll Detection senses up a little. I, for one, have difficulty taking posts like this at face value. Maybe I'm the toxic one. Maybe they quit because of me.
