Long skirts please

Recommended Posts

Since we now have purchasable Costume Powers that include legacy Thorn robes, I would like to request again a costume part from in game for players (and for free please), namely long skirts for female characters.

It was given as a reason that this particular piece I want (below) had clipping issues, but with the Thorn robes, I would be shocked if they don't have the same issues, and no one cares. So... please consider this item - it's a long skirt from the villain group the Talons.

On Paragon Chat we were able to play around with using some of the npc parts with db editing, and  I was able to find and use the long skirt I'd always wanted.

In the db, it was

geom "V_Hips_Talons.GEO/GEO_Hips_Ragged_Talons"
tex1"!Skirt_V_Talons_02"
tex2 "!Skirt_V_Talons_02_Mask"

It's the essential piece for this costume (you'll recognize the other parts, standard ones).

The tex2 Mask creates the ragged edge and I used it with and without,  both versions are awesome.

Clipping is minimal, and certainly nothing worse that sometimes occurs with existing costume parts now.

Please consider adding this piece the next time you are adding new npc costume bits.

Thanks for considering. 🙂

I like that look, and have certainly had characters that wanted a full length dress.

However... I believe the clipping issue is in regards to player skeletons.  Basically, the COT get around this by not having legs under their robes, but you can't do that with player frames.

Wait ... what?!

They have no legs? I never noticed.

i would push this further.  (yes, it is a suggestion i agree with.  amazing right?)  more costume options give us more creative avenues.

i would ask this to include male characters.  my wizards struggle with costuming the lower half to look like anything other than hastily thrown together comicon drag, never quite getting "i am a magic origin sorcerer of great power"

They already hide parts of the body for playing clothing as is, if you use stealth with certain jackets/shorts/pants you can see where the model ends to avoid clipping. Pic below for example

Hiding body parts and clipping are two different things.  The potential issue I see is kicks might cause the leg to go through the long skirts.

I'm all for the idea if the clipping is minimal, however.

My thought about clipping was that if we are now able to have the legacy Thorn costume powers, wouldn't those encounter the same issues, if any, with kicking?

This guy is a legacy costume we can get with Prismatic Aethers.

The capes already and always have clipping issues, and this apparently isn't prohibitive. Ditto for "butt capes" AKA trench coat skirts etc.

Hope this can be considered.

You could use the legacy Thorn costume powers if you don't mind farming Prismatic Aethers. It's not the same as actually having the robe as a costume part we can customize, and I agree with you 100%, I asked for that as well once upon a time.

yeah, i wont "pay" for costumes, especially ones that are not really permanent costume parts.

I understand completely. I'm not super thrilled about the Prismatic Aethers and gating some costume options (not just parts) behind them but they are easier to get than they used to be. I actually got one recently, I already have a character who is a reformed Fir Bolg with the closest costume I could get... but it isn't that close. Now he can be his original self and switch to a 'human' form to mix with the straights. 😉 It's permanent enough, I just click on the power when I want to use the look. However you can't color or modify them in any way.

and on defeat they disappear.  too often it breaks character for me.

Yeah i recall the reason at the time being that it would look awful for characters who kick, like Martial Arts, because the legs would be coming out all over.  NPCs like CoT and the Carnie Illusionists don't have legs or kicking powers to worry about, so the whole body model is the skirt.  I'm curious, if a Martial Arts or Martial Assault toon has the temp costume on and activates a power, what does it look like?

I don't think I've ever seen a martial artist on Homecoming, so I don't know how widespread of an effect this would have, but, I remember the reason given at the time was that the (live) team wanted to have as professional a product out as possible.

I'm not able to log on for a couple of days, unfortunately.  The simple thing to do would be to jump on the beta server and purchase the COT costume with one of my MA toons.

Probably won't be until Monday or Tuesday before I get to do this, so if someone has the gumption to try this before me that'd be cool.

It stretched with no issue for every power. So long as Homecoming alpha's the upper legs for any long skirt/dress option it should be mostly ok if they restrict boots to  tight and like a couple of the smaller shoes. Any rocket boot or clunky shoe would clip more than likely, but we already do this for jackets with gloves for the most part.

This is a bit tongue in cheek.  But may also harbor the solution.  trenchcoats and some of the more modern jackets are long in the back and sides.  if the Devs pushed these garments to the limits (hopefully feet or mid lower leg) and closed the front it would solve the problem. 90% of this is in game with the CoT long lower garments.  (belts I think)

Yup, I'm very familiar with the entire discussion. My thought process was this: how many martial arts characters would WANT a long shirt like this one? And if any did, they would probably be fine with the clipping issues. I see the same issues all the time with trench coats and even capes - honestly how many folks have seen their character's leg go through a cape, while flying, kicking, whatever? If that isn't game breaking or unprofessional, why would this be over the line?

I brought this up again because of the legacy Thorn robes now being available in game. I hoped that this meant the issue could be looked at again.

There are some game animations/emotes that look weird with skirts (savage) because of the positions of upper/lower legs and arms. I don't have a legacy costume to check to see how a 'long skirt' would look with that emotes.

Lotus isn't quite as bad, as arms don't go below the waist.

if you use a trenchcoat, and the CoT long kilt i think you will be close to seeing the clipping issues you want to investigate
