Hi, as far as I can find it seems like we have just the one choice for a female char to wear a Santa Hat. (not tried on a male char but may be the same)

If you choose that hat it replaces any hair style choice. (also changes to a default face number 10 as well, no idea why!) And that then needs to be changed as well.

It s also a very strange style of Santa Hat sticking out from the back and not draped down one side of the head.

What I would like is to have a modern style drapped  Santa Hat that I could wear with my usual hair style Glam.

So Bah Humbug to Ho Ho Ho please 🎅🏻🧑🏻‍🎄🤶🏻

Seasons greeting to all.

All hat options have a single attached hair for them. Regardless of whether male, female, or huge model character.

Because each hat comes with its own specific hair. We can't mix and match hair and hats because of how hats and hair in the game works. Each hat has a single assigned hair choice to make sure our hats aren't floating somewhere over our heads or have parts of the hair's model jutting out of the hat in weird ways.

When you make a selection on the menu, such as choosing face 22 on the Standard head choices, it is not applied to any other menu choice. So when you then change over to say Hats for the head choices, you have not made any selections yet on that menu, so everything is still at default.

Been asked for before. Yes, it'd be nice to have, 100%, with that and all the other hats. As the game sits, though, the hats and hair are one piece as Rudra described. The hair's part of the hat. (Which is really kind of irritating on the ones that make you completely bald. But it also ties into the color choice.)

Why? Game limitations. Don't forget this is often City of Kludges and Hacks. 🙂 Wouldn't argue if a dev (or likely several - one messing with the UI, one doing costume pieces, at least) thought they had a way to fix it and did, but I wouldn't expect it.

And yeah. It'd be nice if the face persisted. Another spot it'd be nice to have the UI tweaked and/or streamlined. I suspect it'd break everyone's costumes (when they went to the tailor, that is.) Wouldn't be the first time, though. Just don't know how fiddly it is behind the scenes.

More hair options for hats would be cool, but my best guess is it's fairly low on the priority list.

They absolutely can do it though.

That said, a lot of the hairs aren't friendly to hats. Very unkempt and puffy and would be pretty time consuming to stuff under a hat.

Even if not all hairstyles were included it'd be nice to have a few different options for the Santa hat with the existing no hair, but also medium and long hair options, Even if that meant the colour choices in the "with hair" versions being for the hat on primary colour and hair on secondary, and having no way to customise the ruff and pom pom, at least it'd better than long-haired characters going bald with the Santa hat. It wouldn't be too far different than goggles and glasses having options to be worn on the forehead or over the eyes. It's far from ideal, but it's a kludgy way to make a better alternative than we currently have.

Another possible way that it could be implemented, though this is probably a lot more work, would be to copy the Santa hat object to the "Detail 1" list for standard heads with a number of the other head pieces like the ringed sci-fi antennae. It'd need to be resized and repositioned, and it would exclude it from being used with glasses, and there'd be a lot of places you'd run into clipping, but at least in theory it should be workable. But it would also set the precedent, and would kinda obsolete the "hats" head category once it was done for one and people started asking for every hat as a detail. After all, if I can wear a santa hat with long hair, why not a fedorah?

As Greycat said, this is City of Kludges and Hacks. A simple curved cone with some shaggy fur and a pom pom on it was probably just whipped together quickly and added to the Christmas event, which is why adding hair to it probably wasn't a priority. It sticks out far from the body, so it can't clip with most costumes, and limiting the hairstyles it could be used with to "none" meant that the hair clipping also wasn't an option.

There are 2 versions of the, I think, imperial hat with hair; 1 where the hair color is fixed so you can apply 2 colors to the hat itself, and one where one of the hat colors is locked but you can change the hair color.  Something like that could be done for the stocking cap...

I'd like to see something done for hats like how they split boots, gloves, and shoulders into two options so on the hat menu you could click the little circle to the right of that menu option to split Hat and Hair into separate options, then each hat that's available would affect which hair styles are available under it which could be tested ahead of time to see what major clipping issues might occur, like the tall spikey hair or the medusa snakes hair just aren't going to work with any hats. Several hairstyles won't, and maybe each hat might only work with a few different hairstyles. I think most people would find that hat selections with even a few hairstyle options would be preferable to a single hat/hair combination.

Of course, this will likely never happen because of all the testing of each hat with each hair style on all three character models that would be required to find out what works and what doesn't. But it is nice to dream.

If the hair is fixed to the hat, then how about a Santa hat (short hair), Santa hat (shoulder-length hair), Santa hat (mid-back length hair), Santa hat (really long hair), and Santa hat (braids) and Santa hat (low ponytail)?
