I started this off in the discord, but sadly that quickly gets drowned out, so I'm bringing it to a more static area. I'm dickering around with an Illusion/Rad build, and while I've never played this pairing I do have experience with both as part of another pair.  A couple of questions:

* Is Perma PA/Perma AM still the goal it was on live?

* If i can make it happen pre-alpha through global IO recharge, instead of spiritual is Intuition or Musculature Radial paragon the better choice?

* I don't see anything I can really skip in illusion (though SI looks like it will just be there for my 5th LotG Global), apart from Fallout (I don't think it works on pets, but it's been 7 years since I've played RE), are there any rad powers I can skip from Radiation Emission?  I'm leaning towards skipping Choking Cloud AND EM Pulse.

* How important is softcapping defense?  It doesn't look like i can get softcapped without sacrificing Perma PA/AM pre alpha, but I can get pretty close if I go w/Leadership and Stone.  For the record, I'm bored to death of the fighting pool but if you really think I need it I can work it in.

Any builds around I could look at would be super awesome.  I found one build, but that seemed more set up to solo GMs as opposed to being a little more well rounded.

Sorry so long and thanks for all your help!

Perma-PA is always the end goal of illusion controllers especially since it's their bread and butter for doing damage, tanking, AV fighting, etc.  :D  As a happy side effect, your goal to perma-PA will also involve perma-Accelerate Metabolism and perma-Hasten.

I normally skip Choking Cloud and Fallout as they don't fit my playstyle on my ill/rad.

I normally don't bother with softcapping on my ill/rad as the Phantom Army will be the ones tanking for me, with Phantasm as the backup (very backup, his goal is to basically use his decoy which is immune to damage to tank for me in the event for some reason I can't summon PA in time).

If you can achieve perma-PA before incarnate alpha, then musculature radial paragon is a good way to go, as it will add damage to your ST hold, along with your attacks and pets, and give you more -tohit and -def on RI toggle.

I took Psionic Mastery on my ill/rad to give me Psi Tornado (which has the force feedback proc) along with a mez protection clicky.

Here's my build if you want to get some ideas.  If you don't like Arcane Bolt, you can always shuffle powers and replace with Mental Blast if you choose to pick Psionic Mastery.

Nononono.

SPIRITUAL.

If you are perma-PA,AM& Hasten, wouldn't Spiritual be a big waste?  I could only see taking it IF you didn't have the recharge to do that.

In a high Recharge build, there's never such a thing as "too much" Recharge.

Honestly rather than skipping EM Pulse, I'd skip Flash, at least in an end-game build.  They both end up being situational, and they both have horrible long casting animations and the drawback of being PBAoE.  So for an AoE hold, EM Pulse is better, sadly enough.  A 60 foot radius is stupid good.  EM Pulse also has almost twice the base duration, better accuracy and adds even more -regen for your toolkit, although for only a short time.

Choking Cloud, Fallout, Flash and possibly Mutation are all skippable. EM Pulse is too nice to skip however.

Superior Invisibility is End-hungry, might want to slap an EndRedux in there instead of LotG Def/End Redux.

I agree with Choking cloud and Fallout. I like mutation because it can be convenient. But since  anyone can get a rez with the Physician accolade yeah, might still be skippable.

I have not used EMP much, but doesn't it sap your end and stop end recovery for a while? Probably still better than flash, which does kind of suck, but it has drawbacks Flash doesn't. I currently have Flash but use it as a holder for superior WoTC.

As for SI, I think they recently reduced the end cost of it so this may not be as necessary as once was. I have 2 end.red. and one LoTG and it seems ok.

Also, noticed OP has Basilisk's Gaze in EMP, since Superior WoTC has 10% rech. wouldn't that be better? Then just drop the recharge proc from BslGaz as a one off?
