Scarlet Shocker Posted April 14 Posted April 14 When I convert something using either a chainsaw or a converter, what do I get? I'm talking specifically about crafted invention recipes - once I've crafted it, then I want something different, how do I know what I'm likely to get? I've noticed a pattern one a few sets. They don't seem to just change randomly - but I've not yet been able to discern if they are grouped into categories or there is some other defined way of changing them. Is there perhaps a recursive tree pattern? I is puzzled. Is there an answer? If going to space for 11 minutes makes you an astronaut, then I'm probably an expert gynaecologist.
lemming Posted April 14 Posted April 14 It's actually random within level ranges. This thread has the possibilities and I've found the popmenu useful. 1
Scarlet Shocker Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 useful info. Lots of reading. many thanks 1 If going to space for 11 minutes makes you an astronaut, then I'm probably an expert gynaecologist.
Uun Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I do a fair amount of converter roulette, generally with enhancements crafted from recipe drops. Unless I'm trying to get a specific piece for my own use, I almost never convert within set. Unless I happen to get one of the few uncommon sets that are worth something (i.e., Red Fortune), I'll convert from uncommon to rare. This requires converting within category (2 converters). Your chances of getting a rare depend on how many sets there are within a category at the level of the enhancement. There is only one uncommon travel set in each category (Running, Jumping, Flying, etc.) so you're guaranteed to get a rare. Same goes for sets like Defense Debuff, Hold and Stun where there's only one uncommon in each level range (although the level ranges do overlap at 20-30). It becomes trickier with larger categories like Melee Damage, Ranged Damage, Melee AoE and Ranged AoE, which have multiple uncommons in each level range and your chances of getting a rare converting within category are lower. Rather than rolling the dice on a larger category, I'll usually convert within rarity (1 converter) until I get a set that guarantees me a rare when I convert within category. (There are several categories that tend to be more valuable. If I get an uncommon Defense or Resist Damage, I'll convert within category.) Once I've converted from uncommon to rare, or if I started with a rare, I'll convert within rarity until I get something that I think will sell at a good price (generally at least 2,000,000 inf). I look not only at the recent sale price, but at the number of bids vs. the number of sellers. If there are more sellers than buyers I'll convert again. I typically list at 500,000 or 1,000,000 inf below the price I'm targeting. I'll let listings sit for at least a week or two before I'll pull them. I don't spend a lot of time doing this, maybe 5-10 minutes at the end of each play session. 1 1 1 Uuniverse

This thread has the possibilities and I've found the popmenu useful. I would always trust @AboveTheChemist but here is my tl;dr synopsis. When you convert something, either by rarity or category or in-set, the engine sets a list of potentials for where the conversion can end up. Even if it is an attuned IO, there is a hidden level associated that can get re-randomized, but I don't have all the details on that. In-set, this is easy. The engine makes a list of every IO in the set that is not the original IO and it randomly selects an IO from the list. By rarity and category, the engine begins by making a list of all potential sets that the IO can be converted to based on its level that is not the current set. Once that is selected, it randomly selects an IO from that new set. So you can (and will) randomize by rarity and get an IO from the same category, like AoE melee damage. Also, there are going to be some items that are unconvertable by category. Air Burst, for example, is the only AoE ranged damage IO from levels 10-19. You can't convert it by category, but you can convert it by rarity. If it is attuned and you cannot convert it, you know that its hidden level is under 20. Now, I believe that the hidden level gets reset if you convert it by category, but I don't have all the facts, Jack. As always, you can only convert an IO to the equivalent category. You will never get a PvP IO from a standard IO. It's always like to like. 2 Who run Bartertown?

Screwing around on beta (and I wish I had kept details), that sounds right. I did a few tests with low level enhancements and wound up with that conclusion. On my list of tedious things to test and document. (along with a dozen other things...)
