LightMaster Posted Wednesday at 02:29 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:29 PM I wonder how practical this would be as nice as it sounds, because it might obscure which player is your teammate / leaguemate if a player’s name is a sky blue instead of the expected green. Given that team color and all have priority over role color (i.e. Helper, Help Me!, Roleplayer), maybe make it so that the custom name color will have priority over role color but underneath the team / league color. 2

I hear ya but didn’t they *just* push out a change normalizing name colors for those with tags because the color changes were apparently causing confusion? 1 1
Glacier Peak Posted Wednesday at 10:57 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 10:57 PM Both great points. I'm sure our Homecoming Team can find a way to make it happen with those considerations in mind. MTeague Posted Wednesday at 11:37 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:37 PM Sometimes it's the little things. I'd like this as well. 1 .
Riverdusk Posted Wednesday at 11:39 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:39 PM Would love to see this for name colors in chat as well. I'd even go for a truly random system where we could reroll to get a new one if we had to. Right now the ones we get are based on the characters in your name based on some sort of weird hex formula. So, for every name it gets stuck with one color and there is no way to change it. Every time I come up with a name for say an ice or dark character and I end up with a hot pink name it just kind of ruins it for me. For those that don't know what I'm talking about it is turned on under Options-Windows-Chat-Individual name colors 2
CCKinnison Posted Thursday at 05:47 AM Posted Thursday at 05:47 AM Would it not make more sense to make the name colors customizable from the VIEWER'S standpoint? As in, I can set my teammate's to purple, league-mates to green, super group members to red, and everyone else to white. I mean, I get people wanting their names displayed in a certain color. But does it really matter to you what color someone ELSE sees your name in? Why? I would think you actually care what color YOU see it in. 2

I don't care what color someone thinks their name should be. I just care if that someone is on my team or not. And having a kaleidoscope of colored names will give me a headache. (Seriously, it will.) Make your chat bubble and included text whatever color you want to convey color-coded impressions of your character. I'll understand character "tone" better in chat bubbles. I'd rather avoid the headache of constantly shifting colors in my chat box please. (That said, I do spend most of my time solo, so as long as I have a mission to flee into and am not part of rainbow color name squad doing that mission or part of such a league, I should be okay.) (Edit: To be clear, I'm perfectly fine with players being able to customize their character name colors. I just ask that it not carry over into other's chat boxes/windows. It's easy enough to ignore the colors for the labels. So it should be just as easy to ignore the custom name colors of characters running around. I'm not usually looking over player names and their labels moving about the area. My chat box though is something I pay a lot of attention to.) Edit again: At the least, please make the ability to view custom colored names an opt-in option. That way everyone that wants to see them running around and in their chat boxes can while those of us that don't won't have to. Edited Thursday at 07:46 AM by Rudra 1

A chatbox name color option already exists. I put in my post exactly where that setting is. Options-Windows-Chat-Individual name colors. Unless you enable that option nothing would change. That option wouldn't go away. You can simply keep it disabled as it is now. My suggestion is simply, for those that enable that option, to allow us to choose the color instead of it being assigned as it is now. Maybe a way to 'reroll' it somehow until we get one we like if opening up a whole color palette choice might be too big a technical issue. Anyway, the original poster's request, I believe anyway as it wasn't 100% clear to me either, was also allowing a color choice for your name that hovers over your character on screen. If that were implemented, no matter how, I'd also suggest it be an option in settings. That way, for those that want the colors to remain the default, nothing would change. PoptartsNinja Posted Thursday at 03:47 PM Posted Thursday at 03:47 PM (edited) If you're talking giving players control over the display color of their name in chat? I'd be all for that. While we're at it, could we get emotes to display the speaking/acting character's name color the way all other forms of chat do? Edited Thursday at 03:47 PM by PoptartsNinja 1

That's over their heads and in the chat bar too. 1 I lead weekly Indom Badge Runs / A newer giant monster guide by Glacier Peak / A tour of Pocket D easter eggs! / Arena All-Star Accolade Guide! Skyhawke Posted Thursday at 08:39 PM Posted Thursday at 08:39 PM As long as there's an option to turn it off, sure, why not? 2 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Originally Pinnacle Server, then Indomitable and now Excelsior
Rudra Posted Thursday at 08:42 PM Posted Thursday at 08:42 PM 1 minute ago, Skyhawke said: As long as there's an option to turn it off, sure, why not? @Riverdusk pointed out that we already have to turn on the option to see existing colored names. So as long as the OP is just a continuation of that, we should by default not have to deal with it. 1 1
Starhammer Posted Friday at 02:26 PM Posted Friday at 02:26 PM I generally like the idea of giving players all the customization options you can... but this one can be a problem without making changes somewhere else. If we can change our name colors to white or red or purple, and so forth, they can get mixed in too easily with Enemy NPC names and their "con" value. I would say if we are going to make Player Character names customizable (and I'd like to use the same two-color interface we use for titles for that), then Enemy NPC's need an update to how their names are displayed, like a solid background behind the name or something (there's probably a better idea than that, as it might turn a crowded mission into a big colored blob if you have enemy names visible) 1
