Ukase Posted August 6 Posted August 6 So, I got this odd drop on my new controller. So, I consult the HC Wiki. An obsolete piece of salvage. Yet, the HC devs seeded this for some reason. Why? Or was it just one of those things where all salvage in the list was seeded. Probably. And, further, I'd guess that history was for something else in this "bucket". Because, I get that some folks might want some obsolete salvage that doesn't seem to take up space in the salvage "inventory" for nostalgic reasons. But surely not 43,682 pieces of it..surely not. Any guesses what I'm looking at? What bucket is this?
lemming Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Did you pet Blarf? That's one method I know that will give you a bit of legacy salvage. 1
Ukase Posted August 6 Author Posted August 6 Yes, I did...well, that's part of the mystery solved. Thanks. Now...why is "legacy salvage" still a thing? And who's buying it? Or is it just a reflection of something else in the bucket?
Hedgefund2 Posted August 6 Posted August 6 It was a thing that was in the data and still is. No doubt more effort than is merited to get rid of it because the downside of it existing is... nothing. It would just be effort spent for no benefit.

And who's buying it? Or is it just a reflection of something else in the bucket? This has come up a few times in the past. I believe the rationale for keeping it (and keeping it seeded in the /AH) was an overwhelming demand for it by roleplayers for some reason. But now, I heard from my doctor's receptionist's chiropracter's dogwalker that if you gather 100 Exotic Compounds, insert them into the magic slot machine in St. Martial, and cross your fingers, you unlock the secret room from the Atari 2600 game Adventure. But no, training enhancements needed to be deleted... 3 Who run Bartertown?
tidge Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Stop petting the Blarf or you'll go blind end up with Legacy salvage. 1
Darmian Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Hmm, Legacy salvage does nothing....yet. How about that? Whether any of us agree with them or not, the Devs generally don't do stuff without some reason. And not because it's for gits and shiggles. AE SFMA Arcs: The Meteors (Arc id 42079) | Dark Deeds in Galaxy City: Part One. (Arc id 26756) X | Dark Deeds in Galaxy City: Part Two. This will guarantee that the devs decide to do something amazing with it in the next update and my stockpiles will soar in value. I'll be richer than @Yomo Kimyata!
Scarlet Shocker Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I misread this title and wondered if it wasn't going to be something about Enkidu Now I just want to know who blarfed in my obsolete bin All the best chemistry jokes argon
Go0gleplex Posted August 6 Posted August 6 HEY! CAP'T KRAKEN's CALLED....THEY WANT THEIR MYSTERY INGREDIENT BACK! 😜 1
lemming Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I also think that one reason that they still exist along with some unobtainable items is that tracking every entry in the code is tiresome and if one is missed, more chances of very odd results. Remove "Golden Skin" and some table somewhere is shortened and all of sudden some other seemingly unrelated code stops working correctly.

So what you're saying is that these obsolete bits of salvage are effectively the glue that holds this universe together?

I partially suspect that the "obsolete salvage" became obtainable again to make it possible to pull Inf out of the AH, in case anyone was 'storing' Inf via bids on things that don't drop. 1
