Why take Cryonic Core over Vorpal Core?

On paper it looks like Vorpal is quite superior.  Downside is 2 less max targets but is far bigger/easier to hit more mobs - and Cold is a bit more exotic than Smashing.

 

I don't get it.

To add to your point Vorpal Radial has 40 targets, 8 more than both Cryonic. But..  *shrugs* IIRC Vorpal was one of the last to get added. Cryonic was in the first batch. Back then I remember how deeply superior Ionic was to other judgements.

Yeah I made sure to list both Core versions for a more fair and direct comparison.

Vorpal, I think, is actually the best Judgement.  I often take it, but I'm a stickler for theme, so if  one of the others makes more sense, I take one of those (pyro for fire dudes, cryo for ice dudes, Ionic for lightning guys and what not.

 

As MoonSheep says, whichever one you pick, you're getting a pretty powerful nuke that is up every 2 minutes.  But in terms of comparing them on the basis of raw performance, I agree with you that it's hard to think of a reason why cryo would be a better choice.

I find Vorpal to be much easier to use than Cyronic.

I usually go by theme, but Ion & Pyronic are my favorites.  Ion for most targets without grouping, Pyronic for being fast to cast.

Vorpal. Mighty, and Void depending on character theme, but I tend to go to Mighty instead of Void.

Cryonic's cone is too narrow to get anywhere near close to the max targets it can hit.  Vorpal's wide cone allows you to get all.  And I feel Vorpal Radial is superior to the Core - more targets + a 10% Def boost to counter the aggro you receive from hitting all those targets!  

 

There really is no reason to take cryonic at all except for theme.  Which is a shame.  If the cone was wider, it'd be worth it.

I almost always go Ionic because of the ease of targeting.

The majority of the playerbase seems to, but that's not what I was focusing on.  It sounds like Cryonic could use a rebalance.
