Since you guys have been doing a little bit of developing on this game i thought i would throw in a neat suggestion.

Since this game is horrible about "alt-ism" making hundreds of Alts, you could potentially minimalize that slightly with this suggestion.

Why not make it to where when you make a secondary build slot or respec you can change your powerset within your class? Just for stuff that you would already have of course.

Like a tanker that might decide to use a sword and shield, but decides to take an axe with him one mission instead. Etc. Most warriors wouldn't limit themselves to the use of a single weapon, but learn a variety of weapons for various situations.

Would give a slightly larger variety within one character which would give us more customization options within that one character and might reduce the inner need to make 100+ alts.

No. It is already easy enough to get to 50. HC has already stated there won't be anything like your suggestion (any type of instant anything..which is basically what you are asking for...).

CoH has always been about encouraging alts... which in turn encourages the number of people to play with at various levels.

Nothing horrible about Alt-ism...I have it under control...I can stop at any time...except why would I...Alt's are half the fun!

For several game mechanic reasons, not possible.

And, it would be immersion breaking as well

Sorry.

Having many alts is crucial to game design and maintainence.  Consider what happens to new player experience when newbie zones go barren like in other games.  It's bad for game health.

Hi. I'm Six-Six, and I'm an Alt-oholic.

Edit: I've recently discovered a new branch to my alt-oholism: On the characters I play a lot (some are just placed on shelves for their costumes/concepts), I have learned to utilise both builds. of course only one is active at any given time. Each one has powers chosen for a certain gameplay play in mind, hence different power pool picks and IO slotting. Moreover, they go hand in hand with the 9 costume changes available for each character.

For example:
Costume 0-4 utilises build 1 which is further divided into varying levels of "armour." Costume 1 is original design, Costume 0 is street wear (hoodie, jeans, T-shirt sneakers), 2 and 3 are gradual addition of various "tech upgrades," 4 is full-on mech suit. Weapons (Dual Pistols) scale up from revolver to the most heavy futuristic looking mother.

build 2 is for team and task force play. Costumes don't really reflect the build, just my mood on whether to play as a Vanguard Sword representative, a Ghost(ly) rider, a tights and cape crusader (well maybe not so much on the tights, it does get cold at night), and a Greek with a Gun to blend in in Cimerora.

So what you're asking for is already doable in the game now, in as much as you don't get to pick new primary/secondary. You do have the option to re-choose your third and epic power pool, which I think is as good as it gets. Not a dev, but allowing for an option to re pick primary/secondary sounds like a coding headache.

I'd settle for having more than two builds available.  Even just having a third would be a welcome option.

Get to 50, unlock incarnate abilities, third build gained.

IIRC.

Is this something that could be solved more easily with more flexible costume options/animations?
