Allow allies to pass through henchmen freely
PaxArcana replied to Weylin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
MMs don't have to be built in a certain way to do it, though (beyond having some AoEs, or maybe Provoke, in their toolkit). Just keep the pets all in Boyguard, and take aggro. 🙂 As for "MMs are support" ... eh, no. Corrupters are the closest the Villain ATs get to a support class, and even for them, it's a sideline. My MM's buff powers are mostly for my pets. If I can spare a moment, and a few points of END, I'll help you out too ... but don't count on it. (I mean, seriously, my MMs are almost all VILLAINS, they're not into the whole "sharing is caring" thing ...! 😄 ) -
When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...

Six-slotting his resistances? Are we talking Sets, or just plain +Resistance enhancements...? If it's the latter, maybe sit him down at a computer, and show him how little he's getting from the 5th and 6th (and probably 4th) enhancement. Also explain Gauntlet to him. Or suggest he try out a Brute - whose damage is worth slotting, but who're almost as survival-strong as Tanks - to see if he has even more fun with that. 🙂 -
Could /localtime be an OSD of some sort?
PaxArcana replied to dmaker's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
You could turn on Chat Timestamps ... have a custom chat tab, with a custom Global channel (that onlyyou are a member of) ... and a macro or keybind that sends "<-- is the current time" to that channel. Hit the key/button, and voila, you get the current time. Not as good as a straight-up clock, but a reasonable workaround in the meantime. 🙂 -

PaxArcana replied to Weylin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Brutes were designed for it. But MMs, (ab)using Bodyguard mode, can excel at it - and leave those Brutes far behind against anything except AoE damage. With set bonusses, an MM - especially a /Sonic MM - should be able to get 30% to 40% resistance without too terribly much difficulty. Now, that may not sound like much, but .... then Bodyguard kicks in, and the MM shares out 75% of the damage that hit him. So, you take ~65% of 25% ... effectively, you've got around an 85% Resistance to almost everything. Most of which (a) doesn't cost endurance, and (b) doesn't stop if you get mezzed. Just ... stay out of the burn patches, yes? 😄 -
is there way prevent some clients from downlaoding?
PaxArcana replied to Papaschtroumpf's topic in General Discussion
At least 80% of them. Probably more like 95% of them. (That's played, not finished .... my game "completion" rate on Steam is about 34%.) A few - like the Total War series - I got a sweet deal on the whole shebang, tried maybe 2 or 3 of them out of the 10 ... and decided "that was a msitake". Nowadays, I get refunds for those. But, maybe 2/3 of my library was purchased before that was an option. This's me: https://steamcommunity.com/id/gm_pax/ -
When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
If I wound up on a team with you ... yes, actually, I would let everyone know if I was playing in a way other than the expected/default manner. Heck, I generally give a quick rundown of my usual modus operandi even if I am "playing it straight". I also look over my new team-mate's archetype, sets, and powers. Not to critique them, but rather, to know what to expect of them - so I won't assume they're going to do XYZ, and then be surprised when Y isn't on the menu after all. -

Dude ... if you don't even notice until halfway through the TF, then why the hell would you even care, at that point? Obviously, you must have been sufficiently steamroller-ing the TF that they aren't holding you back, yeah? So why would it suddenly matter?? -

How about ... no. I'll build and play the Defender I want, because I will be the one playing him/her/it. You don't have to team with me ... just don't break Wheaton's Law when you decline. Is that so much to ask of you? 🙂 -

That's just what I have installed right now. I couldn't physically fit the whole thing onto that 499GB partition at once. And then there's GOG. And Origin. And UPlay. 😄 -
When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
Acting intentionally to cause others displeasure and/or actively undermine their ability to play the game. From what I understand, FF14 is a "TEAM UP OR GTFO" sort of MMO. That would be entirely different, because you would truly be relying on other players to be as close to the A-Game as possible. In CoX ... there's almost nothing you can't do alone, let alone on a team that is now missing "that one guy". You, too, seem to have completely missed the point. It is not, "Anything goes and don't dare make anyone feel bad". It is not "let the level 10 guy onto your Incarnate trial or you're a meanie". It is only this: do not tell someone else they are playing their Archetype wrong, because they chose different powers than you would have, nor because they chose to emphasize one powerset over another. See, here's the thing. "Don't tell them they are playing their archetype wrong" is not at all the same as "team up with them no matter what". If they've chosen to play something that just can't carry it's own weight in the content you want to play, just tell them that; say something like: "Hey, I'm sorry, but as fun as it might be to play for you, that build just isn't up to taking on this content at this notoriety level. Unless you have an alternate build you can switch to, that can do this content, I'm going to need to get someone else to fill that space on the team." Is that really, truly so much to ask? City of Heroes doesn't work that way, in all but a vanishingly few, very specific edge cases. (I think someone mentioned "Master of ___ TF" runs.) DPS is not king in CoX. This is not WoW; this is not FFXIV. Stop thinking like it is. And for those edge cases ... again, "Hey, I'm sorry, but as fun as it might be to play for you, that build just isn't up to taking on this content at this notoriety level. Unless you have an alternate build you can switch to, that can do this content, I'm going to need to get someone else to fill that space on the team." That is not at all what I'm talking about, either. That was someone intentionally trolling/griefing your team, "for the lulz". They weren't playing Blaster wrong ... they weren't even playing CoX, at all. Just having a laugh, at your expense. And, again: note that "don't tell someone you're playing your archetype wrong" doesn't mean you, personally, have to team up with them. "Hey man, the way you've put your character together just doesn't work with how I play. Have fun, and good luck finding a team your build can work on" ... is a perfectly valid and acceptable reaction in that sort of case. But ... you know, sometimes people have thought "that person has gimepd themselves on purpose", and it turns out, no they weren't gimped at all. Again ... Offenders. And also, Blappers. When those concepts were new, a whole lot of people thought exactly that: "gimped" and/or "playing it wrong". And I can add to this: I played DDO when it was new. I love the Eberron setting in Tabletop D&D, and was hella excited to be able to play a Warforged. Clerics far and wide absolutely refused to heal Warforged ... because that healing was only half effective. Sorcerors and Wizards could cast "Repair" spells that counted as full-effect healing for Warforged ... but none of them ever wanted to take those spells. So, players like me were forced to dip into one or the other of those classes, in order to be able to buy and use Wands of Repair Light Damage, etc. So, even before BYOH, there were "healers" who in fact refused to Heal at least SOME players no matter how they behaved, solely because of their choice of Race. and I mean, they wouldn't even throw one of the lowest-level heals at a Warforged to save the guy's life so he could drink half a dozen of his own potions (or wave that Wand of Repair Damage at his own face). -
When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
That depends. What else can that "healer" do ...? Keep in mind: in Issues 1-5, when there were only Hero ATs ... some people decided to play Defenders, who were primarily about their Attacks, not their Buffs or Debuffs. People insisted, loudly, that they were "doing it wrong". But it turns out, they were doing it plenty RIGHT ... and the concept earned a moniker: "Offender". Along comes Issue 6, and the Offender concept is enshrined forever, as the Corrupter villain Archetype. So, what is "wrong" today ... may not be as wrong as you intuitively assume, and may become canonical tomorrow. -

PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
Sure, absolutely. That would be a perfect example of a build that doesn't fit the goal of the team. But you still don't need to tell the player "you're playing a Mastermind wrong". Instead, you could tell them "A no-pet Mastermind isn't going to be able to keep up, and we can't carry anyone for this - everyone has to be able to pull twice their own weight. Good luck finding a team that you fit with better." -

Disable SG base passcode access in PvP zones
PaxArcana replied to macskull's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Okay, okay, new idea: Make it a power you get only at, say, Vet Level 100. 🙂 You click the power, the passcode prompt comes up. No more exploit potential ... and, 'cause it's something you gott a work toward for a loooooong time, the "bypasses other stuff" part won't really matter anymore, either. 🙂 -
Disable SG base passcode access in PvP zones
PaxArcana replied to macskull's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Leandro - you know, one of the HC dev team - has said it isn't supposed to be available to players at all, because it could be used as a "get out of death free" exploit. As in, anywhere, not just in PvP. ShardWarrior asked that people who aren't using it that way not be punished for the few who might. I then suggested a possible way to eliminate the exploit, without eliminating the entire command itself. 🙂 -
When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
Yes, actually, it was. See, you went off and insisted I was wrong ... based on your own asumptions. Assumptions that, as it turns out, are wrong: ot's not about coddling anyone, it's about not assuming other people are stupid, just because they aren't conforming to your own personal preconceptions. Also: if you now admit you did not ask me any question .... why did you insist you HAD asked me "why" ...? Not once, but twice ...? <--- this is me asking, instead of just assuming the worst of you ... -

It sounds to me like this would just be a matter of consistency in the rules. As such, despite not giving a fig about PvP normally ... +1 from me. -

When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
Yep. That is exactly the kind of thing I meant: telling people, who do not conform to your own exact preconceptions of how every archetype in the game is supposed to play, that they are playing wrong if they don't conform to those preconceptions. Way back on Live, in Issue 5 in fact, I rolled a Gravity/Empathy Controller. My thought was, "let's try this Controller thing, and see how it goes. And oh hey, I'll pick up Empathy so I can heal people now and then, too." Well, very low-level, running Frostfire ... the team leader, a Tank, decided to bawl me out because he kept biting off more than he could chew, and I was occasionally going OOM trying to keep him, and the rest of the team, up .... while also, you know, being a Gravity controller and Holding or Immobilizing the badguys. (I was actually being kinda smart about it, letting them bunch up around the Tank before slapping the AoE immobilize on them, for example). And, as I say, he bawled me out ... because I was "supposed" to be JUST healing. Nothing else. Just, put him on /follow and rock the aura. Nevermind the "controller" thing, never mind the entire Gravity Control powerset. Just stand right behind him and rock the aura. ... I deleted that character five minutes later, and it was over a year before I tried Empathy again (with a group of people I actually knew, and felt I could trust not to treat me that way). -
When you think someone is playing their AT "wrong" ...
PaxArcana replied to PaxArcana's topic in General Discussion
No, you did not. You leapt right into telling my my "way of thinking" was "faulty", and (saying you were sure you couldn't change it) implying I would be too stupid to think "correctly". Then went on to do neither more nor less than say that, unlike what I had opened with, it was good and right to tell others "you're doing ___ wrong". Justifying it with the assumption that (as you implied was the case with me) they were almost certainly just too stupid to know better, and so you would be sharing your Elite Wisdom from on high. ^^^^ That, right there, is not "why do you say that", it is directly and bluntly "you are wrong". And is exactly the kind of dismissive, elitist nonsense this thread is aimed at countering.
