  1. Hello! It’s CR Dacy and your friendly base-hopping CR Easter Bunny here to announce that the HC Base Building Contest has returned! And it’s right here! You’re reading about it RIGHT NOW! As before there is no theme, alignment or shard requirement. Nearly all bases are welcome! (See Fine Print for details) Bases will be judged in one of three categories that are divided by item count, for a total of six winners! Plus, the return of the Community Choice Winner! The 2023 categories are: • RP Base Over 7K Items • RP Base Under 7K Items • Utility Center Over 7K Items • Utility Center Under 7K Items • Multipurpose Base Over 7k Items • Multipurpose Base Under 7k Items • Community Choice Winner – An RP base is one where the purpose of the base is to provide context, story, or setting for RP; either no services or minimal services are provided. – What we're defining as a Utility Center is a functional base where the focus is on the convenience and services a base can provide. However, for this contest, how it's presented should be cosmetically pleasing and coherent. – A Multipurpose Base is a base where full services are provided, but RP is also provided for, and base functions are integrated into the design accordingly. This base would need to meet the considerations for both the service-oriented base and the RP-specific base. Winners will be awarded a total of 5,000 merits, which will be divided among contributors if there are more than one, and the golden title "2023 Base Building Champion" for all involved (up to 5 for each winning entry, including the base owner). Base owners also win if they are not the builder, and base builders also win if not the owner, provided said participants did not enter a separate base. (Fine Print). ⭐ The submission deadline is Sunday, April 9, 2023 * ahem * 🐰 at 6pm Eastern (11pm UTC). ⭐ How to Enter Bases must be submitted by the Base owner (the character with the red star in the member list). Please post in this thread with the following in order to enter: • Your character name (the character with the red star). • Your Global handle. • Your base’s name. • The shard it is located on. • The passcode for entering the base. • The Base Category you are entering under. • The item count of your base. Full item count can be determined by clicking Upgrade Plot from the entrance room or by typing /editbase 3 while in your base. If you like, post a screenshot of your item count to be sure it's the correct one. • The character names or Global handles of any members that contributed to building the base; up to a maximum of five, including yourself (don't forget to credit the Builder if different from the Owner!). • Only one base submission per person (Please refrain from entering under multiple accounts – there will be more contests). The judging panel will consist of your Base Building Community Reps (Dacy and I) and the previous Winners from the last HC Base Building Contest in 2020 (should they decide not to enter this year's contest with a different base). After the deadline passes, the judges will take some time to go through and score each of the entries using a rubric (attached below) so that each base is evaluated as fairly as possible. Depending on the number of entries this may take some time. We'll do our best to work through them as quickly as possible! Once the highest scoring bases have been determined we will reach out to the owners to arrange tours for a guided look at the finalists. After the tours have been completed, we will compile the top scoring bases for the consideration of the Community Choice award. Once that winner is chosen by community vote, we will announce all of the winners and award prizes. Please note, we'll not be taking any tours with individual players before this phase, so please add any extra info you would like to the post if you have hidden areas or something you don't want us to miss! The Fine Print - the land of ifs, ands and buts • The only bases ineligible for this contest are the Runner-Ups, Finalists and Winners of the 2020 HC Base Contest (Gold Title winners). All other bases are fair game and welcome! • For those builders that do contract work or are involved in group projects: You can only enter one base and be entered to win with one base. If you happen to have worked on another base, and someone involved with that base enters it, you do not get to share in their spoils should they win. You must choose which one base you want to represent you and your chances to win. • Similarly, for our judging panel: Judges are unable to directly enter their own work. But their clients or other owners of a base may still enter bases that were built, all or in part, by a member of the judging panel. In this situation a judge may not score their commissioned work. A GM (thank you @GM Willow!) has volunteered to step in as guest-judge in the event that a judge must recuse themselves from an entry. Should the judge's entry score well enough to place among the High Scores their base would still be ineligible for the 2023 Base Building Champion Title, and will instead only be eligible for the Community Choice poll. Lastly, as referenced above, a copy of the judging rubric has been attached to this post so that it's clear what we judges will be looking for in your beautiful works of art! We're very much looking forward to seeing all of your wonderful hard work!! - Your Base Building Community Reps, Dacy and Easter Bunny * successfully resists urge to sign off with something like, "May the odds be ever in your favor" * Please ONLY use this thread for submissions! Discussion can be had in the thread linked below: Base Contest Rubric.pdf
  2. There's the ol' girl! Thanks, Troo! I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! That was a fun base to put together and I couldn't be more thrilled that @TraumaTrain is taking care of it now. Knowing the base is being actively used and enjoyed means the world to me ☺️
  3. Hello! EB here. For those of you that do not know me, I am a big ol' base nerd, I love me a random movie reference, good/bad and dad puns alike and i'm just hoppy to be here! (Told you I liked bad ones...) I am also delighted and still a little dumbfounded to be one of your new Base Builder Community Representatives! I got my start building just 3 short years ago. I spent the months before that scrolling through the Show Off channel wishing and dreaming that I had the skills to make the marvelous and inspiring creations that were posted there. And like many, I finally got my confidence to really build through watching Dacy's incredibly helpful tutorial videos. It's still crazy to me to think that now i'll be working alongside her to continue to help the community the same way that she was able to help me ☺️And she and I are already hard at work thinking of ways to do just that! Dacy has already covered most of the juicy tidbits that we have planned for you all in her CR Greeting post above. But I wanted to take the time to introduce myself formally and state that I am committed to helping the base-building community in any way that I can. And I sincerely mean that. Please don't hesitate to add my global in-game @Easter Bunny if you have any questions, need help or some inspiration on a base or would just like another eye on a project. I'll help out if I am able. Lastly, i'd like to end this by saying that I am passionate about and very committed to bringing back and annualizing the official HC Base Contests. It will return. It will probably be a few months out and we're working on many of the details now. But i'll go ahead and share that we are currently eyeballing early Spring as the general annual timeframe. Much more to come - and nice to meet you all! - EB
  4. Actually I think there is. I have demorecords of my bases in the event that something horrible happens. You can create a demorecord of a base by entering and typing /demorecord FileNameOfYourChoice - once you hit enter count to 3 seconds or so and then type /demostop. The recorded demo will be saved to your City of Heroes directory in the "client demos" folder.
  5. /em holdtorch So sorry to hear of his passing and my condolences to all those who knew him. I was only familiar with him through his love of base building and his delightful and always warm posts. I didn’t have the pleasure of being his friend but always appreciated his passion and joy that he had for this game and our community. I can only imagine what a pillar of light he must have been to all those who knew him. Rest in peace, Heraclea.
  6. Global is @Easter Bunny
  7. Hello Indom - Apologies for those of you that have Discord, you've likely seen this posted already. I'm attempting to reach the rest of our indom community. I made a new base! It's seasonal... definitely intended for the December Winter Event but it's just in time for Christmas in July! Sleigh Belles @ XMAS-7920. If you have time I definitely encourage you to stop by 🙂 Alternatively, you can watch this incredible tour video that @Dacy was kind enough to put together for this base: Merry Christmas (in July)!! - EB

  8. Happy to announce Sleigh Belles, XMAS-7920, on Indom! Had a blast putting this base together and i'm especially proud to have @Dacy's help in revealing it. Hope you get a chance to visit, this base is for everyone 🙂 https://youtu.be/6hdB4E8e5Ro - EB
  9. Well. Wedding anniversaries aren't going to be a good source of inspiration here. The traditional wedding anniversary gift for 17 years is furniture. 😐
  10. Well done @Midnyte! You’re quick with the pics! Even caught my terrible pun at the end there : ) That was excellent! Crash and I hope to join The Theme Team for further adventures down the line. Happy Holidays! - EB
  11. Yes, correct. It will be myself and @Crashmonkie joining you
  12. Is there room for two more? If so, Sugarplum and Jinglebell will happily be there! Sugarplum - Energy Melee/Ice Armor Scrapper Jinglebell - Ice/Time Troller
  13. In an already immensely difficult year this news has both been more unexpected and has hit harder than anything that’s come before it. There are truly no words. I met Tet and the Knights in the early days of Live and they very quickly and fundamentally changed the way that I enjoy the game – dedicated full team concepts and leveling them as a group. When the game was sunset our friendships managed to endure. One of my fondest memories of you was our collaboration on the overly-ambitious Adventioneers project. What started out as a fairly simple AE project soon grew into an enormous and elaborate dream to create new content for the game. While it ultimately led nowhere, I will always enjoy the creativity and fun we had developing it. I will cherish your visits up here. And I will cherish the way you helped my wife and I “troubleshoot” our infant son in the early scary days of parenthood, when every cry and every fever was terrifying. Your kindness and willingness to help was always a comfort. And one of the few highlights to this tumultuous year has been reconnecting our team and continuing our tradition of group leveling. Tet, you will be missed. Every level 50 I hit, every costume contest I enter, every base that I design, every team concept that suddenly enters my mind will all shine less bright without you there to share it. You will be missed every time I enjoy a game, a show, a movie, a comic knowing I won’t be able to hear your thoughts on it too. Goodbye, my friend. May you rest in peace. I’m honored to have known you. - EB
  14. Ah. That be another trick I picked up from Dacy 😄 The study walls are made from banners.
  15. Hello all! I'm close enough to complete with my second ever base that I'm feeling comfortable enough to share with our highly talented community 😄 This base 100% draws its inspiration from ShardWarrior's masterful BvS style Batmini SG on Everlasting. If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting it do yourself a favor and correct that 😜His take made me want to take a crack at my own version of a comicbook style Batcave. Presenting EB's Batcave - Home of the Weekend Knights: With just a touch of the alter-ego's lifestyle up above - Complete with super secret entrance! Please feel welcome to stop by in person and look around. I have lots of little Batman easter eggs sprinkled about - KNIGHTS-7014 on Indom - EB
  16. Looks gorgeous, Wei Yau! I'll definitely be stopping by take a closer look!
  17. Dacy - Have you tried /unbind leftdoubleclick? As far as I can tell this completely resolves the random transport through the base. it’s to the point where it’s the very first step every time I fire up the editor. Before F3 or anything else. Hope it helps! - EB
  18. Thanks again for the tour, Dacy! Very incredible base! Simply amazing 🤯Creative and unique custom furniture around every corner! 5 Stars - would visit again! - EB
  19. Aw, thanks! That definitely means a lot and i'm very glad you enjoyed discovering everything! I tried to think of the Way Station less like a base and more like an interactive new zone. I look forward to seeing how you incorporate this idea! What I can't believe is how long this took me!!?? I am absolutely floored by how (seemingly) quickly some of you are able to pull off such incredible masterpieces! That being said I definitely learned a lot on this first go around and my mind is already buzzing with new ideas. Altoholism was bad enough now I have to contend with a base addiction too! Thanks COH 😄 EB
  20. The rest of these areas can be found if you have discovered the secret underwater entrance in Beth Point: Hidden Area / Gimel Point: Not going to ruin the surprise of this location. But there are two exits from here. One that is obvious and takes you back up to the main hall. The other is for adventurous explorers only… Bonus Room & Lamedh Point: Assuming you found the second exit you will land in the [Redacted]. I’m particularly proud of the aquarium in this room. Thanks for playing along! Hope you had fun. And feedback is always welcome! Please spread the word on Indomitable – The Way Station is open for business. - EB
  21. It's been suggested that I should post this here in our Indom section... Yes, that's right, another transportation hub base free for public use - The Way Station! Basecode WAY-5039 - or /macro Way "enter_base_from_passcode Way-5039" A derelict alien spaceship that's recently been discovered floating in deep space. The vessel has changed hands and is now a functioning transportation hub and base of operations. Exploration IS encouraged! Apart from this central hallway the ship has many other surprises in store. Among them: Aleph Point: The bridge of the ship To the right of the base exit is Beth and Daleth points. Daleth takes you to the expansive docking bay complete with overhead space crane! Beth Point has more to unpack. Highlights include a cave behind the gazebo entrance and special entrance under the library. Be sure to take a swim – this is where things get more interesting. If you follow the flow of the water you should find the pipe network and the “hidden area. A few more to come... 🙂 - EB
  22. The Way Station (cont.) Hidden Area / Gimel Point: Not going to ruin the surprise of this location. But there are two exits from here. One that is obvious and takes you back up to the main hall. The other is for adventurous explorers only… Bonus Room & Lamedh Point: Assuming you found the second exit you will land in the Medbay. I’m particularly proud of the extensive aquarium in this room. Thanks for playing along! Hope you had fun. And feedback is always welcome! 23. The Way Station (Exploration Encouraged… and Rewarded?) This is my first ever attempt at base-making but I’m pretty happy with the results! After months of lurking in this post I’ve been inspired enough to give it a go. Please stop by and provide honest feedback! WAY-5039 on Indomitable The Way Station started out as a simple transportation hub and still functions as one. The new concept is a formerly defunct spaceship that was discovered abandoned in deep space and is now actively coming back online as a makeshift base of operations. Exploration is encouraged! You arrive in the belly of the ship. Transportation hall in front of you: To the left is Aleph Point aka the command center of the ship. To the right of the base exit is Beth and Daleth points. Daleth takes you to the expansive docking bay complete with overhead space crane! Beth Point has more to unpack. Highlights include a cave behind the gazebo entrance and special entrance under the library. Be sure to take a swim – this is where things get more interesting. If you follow the flow of the water you should find the pipe network and the “hidden area.” Just a few more pictures to follow to wrap this up 😄 - EB
