i'm not seeing how they're disrupting me. like, i've just never actually had any of this affect me.
-
okay i think i'm missing a thing as a person who is not doing this, why do i care whether someone is doing this? like, if they're enjoying it, and it doesn't hurt me, why should i care? i guess there's two questions: what rule, exactly, are they breaking? why do i care? because sometimes a rule is a little approximate and bans more things than we actually care about, and in other cases it just isn't enforced, and actually... that seems fine to me? my friend, people are at this moment being killed. if you want me to think that someone, somewhere, should so much as push a button in order to solve your problem, first you will need to sell me on the idea that it is a problem which needs to be solved.

I don't even know why that's bad...

OP reads like you think the people runing petless masterminds are under the mistaken impression that they've picked a maximally-efficient build and they're bad at it.

Ghostcrawler Calls Streamlined Leveling in MMORPGs a Mistake
seebs replied to Lunar Ronin's topic in Video Games
I think I never felt like I was grinding in rift, if I just went through doing stories and following loose ends I ended up at level cap. -
Ghostcrawler Calls Streamlined Leveling in MMORPGs a Mistake
seebs replied to Lunar Ronin's topic in Video Games
I don't think "levelling" has to imply "grinding". If levelling is all quests and adventures and plots, it's great. If I'm spending a ton of time grinding, it's boring. -
What a beta tester really should be focusing on.
seebs replied to Gibbler's topic in Open Beta Testing
it's not "too technical", it's just not particularly sensical or useful. it reads like an abstract theoretical list of things people might check for in video games written by someone unfamiliar with this game or its current state of development. -
I hope not, because I even wrote a guide on how!

you can make it other people's problem to deal with your actions, but if you do, they will probably dislike you and avoid you, and that's sort of normal. this is why we learn social skills and try to be somewhat accommodating, so other people will like us more.

The Paradox of the Well of the Furies
seebs replied to Scarlet Shocker's topic in General Discussion
As a programmer/techie in general, I'm pretty much just used to "you don't need to know how the furries run everything, but they do", so I just assume it's a typo and is actually the Well of the Furries and then whatever it does is pretty sensible. -
So the calendar feature of the website has been disabled. I know this because most days if I come here I get a bright orange THE CALENDAR FEATURE OF THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN DISABLED banner that tells me that the calendar feature of the website has been disabled, because the calendar feature of the website has been disabled. The calendar feature of the website has been disabled. After a while it doesn't even sound like words anymore, it's just a rhythm that underlies the forums. The calendar feature of the website has been disabled. I didn't even know it existed, so I probably didn't need to know it was disabled, but I certainly don't need to be told this often. Please can it go away.

How many power combinations exist in game to date?
seebs replied to Scarlet Shocker's topic in General Discussion
You're allowed to play until level 49 and stop there, too, so that's a lot more combinations that someone might have. -
i mentioned this to friends who were around back in the day and they pointed out there's also a 1-shot prevention mechanic in the game.

I remember at one point thinking Ultimo was just very bad at math, but then I noticed the response when people offered corrections on math, or pointed out things like "slotting entirely for endurance reduction actually makes you spend more energy to defeat an enemy than slotting also for accuracy and damage", and what I gradually concluded was that the point is the conversation and attention, not to advance an argument or a position.
-
I think what's missing is the point where there's any kind of response to the questions or considerations people raise. Why are you doing these tests with exactly 0% resistance, for instance? Where are your defenses? Why are you in melee range on a mastermind if you're not in bodyguard mode?
-
I believe this argument is old enough to vote in the upcoming US election.
-
Support, armor, melee, and ranged sets all exist both as primaries and secondaries. Control and pet sets are (currently) never secondaries; MM is the only pet set archetype, and controller/dominator both have their control set as their primary. I do wonder about the viability of an archetype with a control secondary, but I think if you don't nerf the controls a bit they're too powerful for a secondary, and if you do they're probably not very practical.

I'm still having a hard time buying that anyone is holding "thousands" of names. I'd like to see some kind of evidence for this.
-
Generating ideas is easy. Generating ideas that actually work well is not.
-
is it possible that "resistance to endurance" goes in a category other than "debuff resistance", like "damage resistance" or "status effect resistance"?
-
So, you've identified one example, and you say it's "incredibly common"? I haven't heard of this happening previously. It doesn't feel very common.

Should folks who contribute get something extra?
seebs replied to Troo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think you should may be go read more superhero comics and come back when you're more familiar with the genre. Superhero comics are about imagining people being better than that. The world is full of rat races and grinds and people being told that since they can't contribute, they're just fundamentally lesser beings who do not deserve respect, or even care. I didn't come here to see if I could find a way to make another place where I'm more important than other people because of all the luck I had that put me in a place to succeed. Yeah, I "work really hard", but people who work harder than me and didn't get as lucky get paid a tenth as much. And I'm not better than them. Maybe I get paid more, but I'm not more important, and me being in a position where, if I were ever fast enough at clicking, I could donate more money than someone else doesn't mean I should "get more". If I donate, it's because I want the thing to exist, and part of what I want about this thing existing is precisely that I don't get anything if I donate. -
Should folks who contribute get something extra?
seebs replied to Troo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
i don't know the exact terms, but i'd guess that the "you mustn't run it to bring in money" agreement with ncsoft might also cover things that look like allowing people to pay for literally anything at all. like, even the most marginal of cosmetics being given in exchange for money might be a Problem. -
One of my contenders for best was a little puzzle game called something like "everything must go" for iOS which was just a simple stacking-objects puzzle thing that I played for an insane number of hours, until an iOS update killed it.

oh hey i remember a person like that from Live, on Virtue, they had their whole little scheme, and they had macros for telling people when it was time to start attacking, and so on, it was amazing. they had an entire supergroup that was super aggressive about prestige and got so mad when some of the marketeers started competing with them on it.
