Discussion: Disabling XP No Longer Increases Influence
Super Atom replied to Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
I read the dev replies and i don't really care what their reason for sneak nerfing something is. I don't like it, I never said they never responded i just said it wasn't cool. Don't accuse people of not knowing how to read if you can't. There's no real reason for it to be an "Exploit" since it's just been a thing for 7 years of their time as being in charge of what does and doesn't happen in this game. It's a game change at that point and it's also something that could have been discussed since it's not the primary source of influence "inflation" as you call it which is just absurd in the first place since merit farming/converters are 100x worse. -

This is also the real truth. Farming is boring, just get a good group and roll +4/x8 (if you can't solo it) and you'll make more then enough money for your alts and get to see something other than the same map and enemy group. -

The issue here is... Why weren't you transparent about this change before just kind of doing it? I get some people would be mad but you just kind of sneak nerfed something and that's not cool. Also; The market place is done significant harm by converters, not farming. Converters have destabilized the market for many IO's that otherwise wouldn't be in the 1-3 available range. If you're truly and honestly worried about the market, it's time to just seed it at a fixed price and call it a day not stealth nerf influence farming a year later. -

The same 20 people arguing about the name is hardly a good reason to shelf the whole set lol -

Pattern is not quite what you're looking for. It's a naming convention for power sets which is, simplistic and alludes to the function of the set. It's not specific to support sets, It's why most things have their literal description in the name, with support they deviated a little because Bubble Support or Healing Support might be a little too simplistic and not very heroic sounding so they went with Force Field and Empathy both of these are still simplistic and give a general idea on what the set might be through the name. Electric Affinity works out nicely because it's simplistic and alludes to it being a support set, which was my issue with shock therapy and 95% of the names suggested so far, they meet neither of those two qualifiers for the overall naming convention of power sets and fit in more with actual individual powers, like surge protector or galvanic (see the ability in the set named Galvanic Sentinel). Focused Feedback: Costume Editor Updates (Build 4)

Any plans on shoulders being added to this feature? (even if later in a different page) -
You know what would be cool? Just making fly faster instead of requiring another power. With SJ/SS/TP you just need 1 power to reach a good speed, with fly you need two. Seems a little unfair to me.

It really should be force fields. Silly 2004. -

That's good for randomly generated lots of people. "This is a set that uses traps/force fields/bows" yes I read your roleplay but its generic and unspecific as a name. Case in point, color it green and you've got a radiation storm. Imaginations are fun. You can drop the nature argument, darkness affinity exists. Force field sounds like a description of your abilities not so much a power. You don't use force field you use force fields, what kind of force fields? Insert power name of specific field. We can disagree all we want but eventually a gm is gonna tell again so it's probably best we acknowledge we disagree and move on. I don't disagree there's probably a better name. I don't think we've found one yet. -

All I mean by convention is they don't sound like a power. Not that they literally need to be domination, emission etc -

I don't think they matter to a characters design. I don't think they need to be literal either but uh... to say they aren't is disregarding force field, traps, poison, storm summoning and trick arrow. -

To be clear, the name has nothing to do with how you make a character. You can use it sure but the name has no bearing. My willpower is a power armor fueled by thermal energy. It has nothing to do with willpower. I'm not telling you that you cant dislike affinity I'm just disagreeing with your reasons as to why it's bad. I also appreciate your point of view and see where you're coming from. -

but hey, there's no real rules to any of this. There is literally nothing stopping HC from naming it whatever they feel is best be it something flashy or otherwise. If they so chose they could name it "Big electrical good touch" and we'd all just have to deal with it. Luckily they probably wouldn't do that, so i guess we'll see what they feel the best name for their (first?) set will be. My repeated disdain for flashy power-like names is entirely just my opinion. I Like Electrical Affinity because it gets the point across enough that It's support and has Electric powers and isn't gonna cause a red-hot debate about politics. 10/10 does the job move on to making it not be DOA. Besides, It's gonna end up being shortened to Elec/(set) defender anyway in any conversation in game. -

Are you telling me you wouldn't make a Big ouch rainy hurt blaster? its almost like overly specific flashy names don't work as power set names. -

Which again brings us to the problem of randomly naming things and it getting weird. "Man, I can't wait to make a boom boom pow melee". If you like the more generic names that you feel suit it better then cool but naming it something flashy for the sake of it being flashy is equally as dumb as naming it Electrical Buffs. -

Street Justice is probably the outlier here. I mean, how exciting is Katana? Exciting names are not exclusively why people play anything, Look at any blast set or most control sets. Never said they can't be, but they also don't have to be based on most sets in the game. The concept of this power set is no more exciting than Electric Control or Electric Melee and both of those are have super generic names. I think Affinity is more exciting than being overly literally like the other electric sets because it could just be named Electric Buffs. It's also not a healing set it just has a heal and not a very good one, if it were I'd personally be pulling for Conductive Care. The issue with 99% of the names suggested *see surge protector* is they are ability names or character names, not power set names. The only real power set names have been things like Electrical Conduction or Electric Support and spoilers those are as generic as affinity. I'm also dead convinced they named it street justice because savage melee and super strength were taken and they couldn't legally call it batman melee. Alsoalso a name means nothing for your character concept. I've seen plenty of people make characters out of power sets through the customization that have nothing to do with the name. Off the top of my head, I've seen a lot of neat Egyptian themed characters who use dark armor and make it look like sand instead. The name has absolutely nothing to do with what you use it for, if it did all the alternative models for the melee weapons would be pointless. -

Why does everyone think power set names need to be exciting? I mean, i guess they could be but at that rate we have a tremendous amount of things to rename. I'd like to throw out some suggestions for Archery Turbo Speed Pointy Stick. Big ouch rainy hurt Green Arrow's fast paced lightning speed flying poker. -

@Troo All i was saying is i think it's unfair to bash one power set as samey or bland when like 95% of them are lol If people can think of a new exciting name that doesn't sound like a power instead of a power set then cool -
Focused Feedback: Electrical Affinity - Name
Super Atom replied to Jimmy's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I think the argument of "bland" or "Samey" kind of falls flat when you look at most primary/secondaries in the game I think literally every controller primary ends with the word control and begins with a literal description of the powers theme. -

I agree. Some people have suggested interesting things that could even possibly be something later if not this set. Like conductive care. good name. -

Asking someone to read the GM's post who @'d you three times is hardly accusing someone of illiteracy. -

I never said i didn't, I sure as hell belittled and attacked people who went on insane rants about how people aren't allowed to feel emotion about an extremely touchy subject and who were actively being bullied by people over a stupid name for a power set. Get over yourself, i stopped when the GM asked but some people can't let go and insist on continuing to be disgusting. We're talking about a power set on a private server nobody has any emotional attachment to and has barely had any chance to play and look how people are acting about what its stupid name is. -

Jesus the crying and false narratives about the name change are getting absurd. I wish people knew how to read when a GM politely asks people not to attack others or carry on the pointless roundabout drama but nope, if they could read we wouldn't be in the cycle of people ignoring the page after page of people who just didn't like the name because it didn't fit in well with power sets and sounded like a power but nope it was all purely just bullying and fake outrage because people disagreed with you. -

@Leogunner Perhaps you should try reading. As for the name; Most of this just doesn't sound like a power set. Flashy names are fun but they don't work. Power sets are intentionally designed to be brief generic descriptions of what a power set is or relates to. Conductive Care IMO would imply more healing. It's a support set, like Electric interface would have been good if not for the interface incarnate stuff. side note, can we get an elec based healing set named Conductive care? or at least rename the heal to it.
