Focused Feedback: Energy Melee Revamp
Super Atom replied to Jimmy's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Yeah, imagine having to remember TF = Energy Focus, very hard. Intentionally ignored EF and the set is still better in every way. I can't think of many times in which if i was using TF (On a boss) I wouldn't instantly use ET as a follow which was now instant. The only key different is i know i can buff power crash by using TF real quick to spike down some minions. -

This is likely why they didn't. Increasing EF could tip it into over preforming, though on scrappers if you crit with TF you get double EF and it is pretty great. -

Some day later thoughts- Extensive +4/x8 testing on multiple AT's, the sets overall performance is crazy. Easily 3x as fast as old EM in mob clearing, the AOE gap has been filled without going too far. I think my favorite pairing right now is probably EM/Ninja scrapper. I think live is dead to me. Stalkers took some getting use to, but once i got into the swing of it I think you can pull off some pretty good stuff. Tanker is my least tested but only because it's so brain dead easy to play that it's pretty hard to mess up, that said the handful of missions i ran i did so with at least 100% more enjoyment than previous EM. -

I'm unsure whats happening with you, My EM is doing excellent in all areas, tanking/damage wise. The mechanic is 1st grade math level easy and has improved the flow, strengths, and general gameplay of EM in every possible way. Short of people just wanting old ET back in its entirety, this change actually addresses multiple issues EM had has a set. Something many sets will still need, however not every set will need a mechanic or should get a mechanic. It works for EM extremely well however. Super Strength Battle axe Broadsword Katana War Mace Electric Melee Fire Melee Ice Melee Spines Stone Melee Martial Arts Dark Melee(?) Claws We'll stick to just tanker sets to make it easy. Meanwhile, "mechanic" sets. Staff Dual Blades Radiation Energy melee Kinetic Street Justice Psi melee (kind of) Savage melee. Edit- forgot dual blades, but so does everyone so its ok 😉 -
Tested, loved, and grateful to the devs. 😄

I agree, being able to use a quick version of the old-new animation would be cool. -

The high five is it's original animation, you can avoid that animation by not using Energy focus, it'll use the old-new animation if you desire though it'll also take longer to go off -

You're not wrong about aoe being out of hand, but my best guess is this change was done to bring EM's multi-target capabilities up. Current state cone did so for current City of Heroes balancing. In the future, if aoes were dialed back in a global scale, i could see doing this to EM's new cone. -

Yeah, like said above I'd really just wait and test it. At first, it may seem like a huge change but it's not. It flows really nicely after practice and once you hit IO area the output is great. On stalkers, it's a huge difference so far, which after having no aoe is unsurprising. ET is only long if you don't have energy focus which is a guarantee proc off TF, which the only good option for that is TF or BU, but with BU you risk the BU ability being too strong. It fits well with TF because of recharge time, so you aren't perpetually in EF like would be the case with BS/punch. So if you're focusing ST, your best option is Total Focus *Which is now much shorter* ET *which would be instant*. -

I think It's AOE is still middle-ground area, it certainly isn't stronger AOE wise than elec melee or rad melee, which is a good thing. it's ST capabilities is amazingly strong and all that's asked of you is that you open with the now faster TF. I'm almost sure using BU>TF>ET is now about as fast as using BU>TF before, so you gain a whole power in the same time frame for St damage and the cone is just wonderful. I cannot say enough about this change to the cone, It's the best thing about any of this for me and improves the set dramatically by itself. -

100% PC/WH is strong enough to keep up without being too much now. plus incarnate judgements 😛 -

I read your post, but it wasn't really anything about the set and more about you personally. Tanking wise, EM only gained from this change if from nothing else but the cone, which increases in targets if you use it after TF. TF is faster, ET can be faster allowing you to reposition quicker overall. The cone will help you keep aggro from those silly blasters paired with your whirling hands. You don't really need to monitor the gimmick outside of for maximum benefit use TF before ET, which is an extremely easy rule of thumb. The set is incredibly simplistic. and has improved your general AOE capabilities as well as lowered animation times. I see no downsides other than personal flavor opinions clashing on the way this change was done, but for tanking? the cone alone is a giant improvement. -

What isn't easy about the new changes? I'd love to help but you haven't exactly specified what exactly about energy focus isn't easy for you, the cone is wide enough so you don't truly need to reposition and the gimmick is passive enough to where even if you ignore it, you'll still gain strong benefits. -

This is only doubled by IO sets, my blaster can tank +4x8 with little effort, this games power creep saw to that years ago. If you have trouble tanking in coh, a 1-2-3-4 rotation isn't gonna help ya -

We have the exact opposite opinions and that's ok. I think it now flows extremely well, feels amazing and also has improved it's general game play tenfold thanks to things like power crash and TF speed up. ET was never a bother for me, even with the first nerf. It now going fast again after TF is fine by me. -

True. if the trade off was a flat % of damage then no thanks, plus TF has the bonus of double EF on scrappers which is just fantastic. -

I think the set would do better with EF granted on BU, allowing more free form rotation. Maybe just have TF have an increased chance to generate focus. though with TF's increased cast time, it's not the biggest deal to use TF first. -

Exactly. This change is amazing even if you don't even use the mechanic, but if you do good lord it's so much stronger. I'm beyond thrilled EM has been fixed. -

Thats my favorite part about this change. It adds for those who want and still buffs for those who don't. Ignore the mechanic? Still better than old EM. -

It's really not complicated at all. It's extremely simple. Jump on test and give it a try 🙂 -

Good change, needs minor tweaking but overall good change. Not everyone will be happy, but those people can't be helped because they don't want things brought up to fit with modern coh. -
Hey Devs, can you please some or all of this to HC?! :)
Super Atom replied to BurtHutt's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
As for these suggestions, I like individual ideas like Offensive/defensive targets having different effects, but for the most part they're wildly random and while they work for a server like Thunderspy they wouldn't fit in much here. My suggestion would just be to roll a thunderspy account as well and just play those things there. Can't hurt playing on multiple servers 😛 -

Well, idk how much they're gonna like this being randomly discussed on the suggestion forums but, SCORE was more or less a jokey nickname, Secret (core?) (cabal?) of reverse engineers. It was a thing on the Titan Network forums. They secretly had a working version of CoH for 6 years and only let specific people in. It got leaked and then one guy who, imo at least took the brunt of the heat unfairly, released the game into the wild giving everyone the ability to play. Some people haven't let that go. Theres more to it, but thats the basics
