  1. It would be interesting to see how the code actually handles this. Checks like that - for all the NPCs walking around - quickly add up and slow things down, especially back when the code was written. But in general, I would love to see an overhaul of the street NPCs in both looks, behaviour and rewards for interacting with them. But that doesn't take away that people do run around like headless chickens in a blind panic in real life as well.
  2. Yes. My main in both live and HC is a Preatorian, and I got her to level 50 with AE missions as well, after the Wards ran out. I am ok with becoming a Hero (or Villain/Rogue/Vigilante for some), but let us keep some of the stuff. I understand the difficulty in programming such things. It has annoyed me both on live and now in HC. My character grew up fighting Cole and the PPD and even when in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles, she judges people based on those values.
  3. I don't think the dev team really has the tools to make new travel powers or emotes. At least not easily. But I can see some kind of sonic version of the Panda Roll be a variant of Speed Run. Bouncing over obstacles would be fun, but something the physics in the game doesn't support, I think. A proper sleep emote, like the students you sometimes see on the benches at the entrance to the university, that would be nice. Even just a rag-doll to the floor would work for me.
  4. One of the things I like about City of Heroes is that not everything has to be optimal and effective and you can still succeed. I have a toon with Energy Blast, with lot's of KB, and it's a lot of fun. I also have a Robots MM. Not all power sets are balanced, and certainly not in all circumstances. I mostly play with friends and we just laugh if a few mobs fly around. I understand the problem, and my preferred solution that people would stop complaining about KB isn't going to work. I know it can be annoying when I'm playing melee, but it's also hilarious sometimes. I know it's not a solution, but I wish people would care a bit less about "efficiency" and enjoy the rag-dolls. One of the reasons I stopped playing World of Warcraft and then found this game back in 2010, is that everything got dumbed down and pushed into the same cookie-cutter builds because of "balance" and "efficiency". CoH not caring lot about these things is what allows the wealth of different builds and characters. Just don't think every build can solo +4x8, and I don't think they should. I'm fine with a character at +0x0, as long as they're fun to play and look cool.
  5. There is even a warning when you purchase it that this one cannot be removed/revoked, I think? It probably has some programming quirk that makes it annoying.
  6. Snazzy Labs has a nice and thoughtful video on the state of gaming on Apple silicon: I can recommend watching the full video. In the mean time, I've switched from my Mac Pro 2010 with GTX980, 32GB RAM, HyperX PCIe SSDs on High Sierra to a Ryzen 5950X with 64 GB RAM, Radeon 6900XT, Thunderbolt 3, several fast Samsung 980 Pro SSDs, Blu-Ray burner/player, 10G Ethernet. I ordered last December, although it took almost half a year for the parts to arrive. I paid less than the base M1 Max Macbook. I could not find a Mac with similar specs for less than almost 2x what the W10 machine costed me, and I had to pay extra to get the GPU, originally I hard ordered an RTX3080 for half the price of the 6900XT. Regrettably the machines comes with Windows 10, I still prefer OSX, but I have given up on Apple's hardware choices since 2013. But it runs CoH at 4K, 200% world and character details, with a few dips below 60 fps for MSR and Hami. I have given up on Apple caring about games outside the iOS ecosystem.
  7. I think there are also laptops out there that use the iGPU of the CPU for the laptop screen and the dedicated GPU for the external screen(s). That would probably confuse CoH as well.
  8. Well, that is what it seems to do though. I don't get a warning, but the images I post seem to be poor quality. I'll post some examples later, I'm on a different computer now.
  9. I've played quite a few board games, but I don't remember all the names, only a few of the ones I own. I think you find Settlers of Catan is a lot older than you seem to think, it's from 1995. I remember playing it around that time when I visited my sister. I like Munchkin as well. Boonanza/Bohnanza, Machiavelli and Koehandel are card games I like too. Koehandel doesn't seem to be available in English, but there are even championships for it. The Lord of the Rings co-op game. Terrafoming Mars and Ticket to Ride and Puerto Rico. Targui and Carcassonne and Rumikub for some older ones. And sometimes Axis and Allies, but that can take a weekend. Even some really old ones, like Halma, Ganzebord (Game of Goose), Go and Chess. If you want to be really immersed in boardgames, you should visit Spiel in Essen, take at least 2 days.
  10. I always attack those purse snatchers if I see one. No matter the zone or what level I am. (And if I'm playing a Hero of course) Superman or Spiderman catch the low level crooks too, and and Mumin Rider from One Punch Man tries even if he's too low level. It's what Hero's do! I would like to see some updates to the costumes of the citizens walking the streets, they are very crude and 2004-ish. I would also like some accolades for streetsweeping, like having saved 1000 purses for example.
  11. So, given that the source of the game is availabe (at least the ourodev version), a friend and myself have had a go at downloading and compiling the game. I want to have a go at understanding the source code and looking at some of the limitations/bugs that annoy me, and see if I can have a go at fixing them. This might lead nowhere, or it might lead to some suggestions/patches to the HC dev team at some point. I have been digging though the code and I think there are certainly pieces of code that I feel confident modifying. I think I got (some of it) it to compile, but I'm a bit lost on how to go from there. Which bits go where on the server and client, and what databases do I need? I find mostly dead links if I try to figure this out, do people know of a resource that explains this in some detail? I know there are some VM images out there that I could try to reverse engineer, but I was wondering if other resources exist. I also think that the Homecoming current version of the sources is not available online (in a public location), but for my interest, the sources in ourodev are close enough: live and HC work the same for the things I'm interested in. If someone knows where the HC code would be available, I would be possibly be interested, especially if they made improvements to make it easier to run things. I would like to see if I can compile from source and then get the game running. I think I have the hardware lying around that it should be possible. (16/24 core machines with 64-256GB of RAM) I'm no expert by any means, and my skills for developing on Windows are a little rusty, but I've more than dabbled in a lot of things professionally, and that's why me and my friend are looking into this. Thanks for any help or tips.
  12. I think the devs don't have the original 3DSMax (or similar) models that were used in the original game to make the in game models and animations. The ones that are there are very optimized for GPU display (from 2004ish) and not easy to manipulate and nearly impossible to turn into a proper model that could be used in a modern 3D tool. They are in some custom format for the Cryptic engine. (the pigg files).
  13. I don't think we have a full set of animations, and if I understand correctly, adding animations is something the current dev team can not really do, as they don't have the tools that Cryptic/Paragon used back in the day. I think the temp pistol powers are the best we can do with Homecoming without a lot of effort.
  14. I'm actually not a fan of the P2W travel options. I would prefer if most of them would be turned into proper travel powers, but that would be a lot of work, and also the reason why back on live they put them into the shop/VIP system. It would require quite a bit of redesign of the travel powers and even some levelling mechanics, but I would prefer if a lot of the P2W stuff would be normal power picks of some kind. They are now used by people to free up a power slot in their build, which I think was never their intention.
  15. I really liked it in WoW, ARK, Conan and such. But given the technology and the amount of time that would need to be invested to make it look good for all costumes and powers, I can totally understand why CoH devs chose to not go that route back in the day. For the current dev team it would be even harder as they do not have some of the core development tools (for animations/3D models) that would really help in bringing such things to life.
  16. Exactly, the actual "Epic"abilities are in the Incarnate system, the stuff you get from level 35, is more like Ancillary, Complementary to your initial power picks. As a side note: I love the Laser Beam Eyes on my Brute. Feels very Kryptonian and it is really useful to have some low cooldown ranged attack.
  17. I think that the Patorian and First/Night Ward content is some of the best in the game. Especially Praetoria als looks more modern than a lot of the older content. I wish the game would push people more towards those areas, but I have more Praetorians than Heroes or Villains, and quite a few stayed that way until level 30-35. Currently the game very much pushes you to take the portal at level 20, but you can also continue in the Wards as a Praetorian and a lot of the characters you met earlier will make another appearance. Praetoria also has a lot of replayability with the 4 different factions. I still think it's stupid that back on live, the Going Rogue content was hidden behind a pay wall, instead of making it the default starting area. What I think would really help the game, is if there were more things to do on the streets, instead of only in missions. Then you would see more people around. For the same reason I am also not a fan of all the teleportation/portals, especially with how awesome the super movement options are in the game.
  18. I like the idea of unlocking it after reaching T3 or T4 in incarnate.
  19. I think the ragdolling is great fun.
  20. Hi, I've also started playing some Star Trek Online (Don't worry, CoH is not going anywhere), and I'm looking for a fleet. Any people out there who could recommend one for us, given that we're quite casual players? We're Dutch and in the CET time zone, so most of the US based fleets are not a good fit, and the NL fleets seem to no longer be active, so maybe an EU or UK one that someone is a member of?
  21. Bump. NL spelers nog steeds welkom. We doen ook Star Trek Online (en een aantal andere games zoals World of Warships).
  22. Yes, I even re-created all my characters from back in live on Homecoming. They will all be level 1 again, but costumes, power customization and such can certainly be used, sometimes it doesn't entirely work. I had also saved my characters with Sentinel Plus, so I could look up what powers, slots enhancements and such they had back on live. I don't know what Score allowed in that regard. Most are now higher level than they ever were back on live, and I now have 2 level 50 incarnates! (I got to level 49 before they shut down the game 😥)
  23. Hi, I was trying to post some 4K images (CoH runs really nice on my 6900XT 😁 ) , but they seem to get resized to a much lower resolution? Am I doing something wrong, or should I link from an external image site if I want to post full resolution images? Thanks.
  24. Je vois des joueurs francaises souvant au Reunion. Leurs noms and desciptions sont en Francais.
