  1. All the replies made me laugh. I might look into that fleet, thanks!
  2. It is even worse on Mac. One of the reasons I said goodbye to Apple after 10+ years. They drop support quite quickly. In my opinion they should just release the source code and apply a liberal copyright for any games that is no longer supported. Maybe hold the copyright on the IP, but allow for games to be ported. Something like what happened with DOOM. It should apply to all kinds of consumer electronics.
  3. Very well said. I would love it if we would be able to do some kind of monthly donation system at some point, but I understand that given the current circumstances that is not possible. I hope to contribute again at the end of the month, I missed this one.
  4. I mostly play with friends, either real-life ones, or people I've known online for years. Only one of them played CoH when it was live, so most missions and ATs are still new for us, and as a result we take it slow. If you want to take it slow, then I suggest trying to find people like that, then try to have them join CoH and play together. Sorry that I don't have any better advice. I think the main issue is that a lot of people on the servers have played the live game for many years, and know the optimized builds and strategies. We instead go for a Plant Control/Nature Affinity character, and then things slow down...
  5. Only 100? I still have floppies (both 3.5 and 5.25), zip-disks, and even a few tapes and punch cards lying around. The zip-disks are mostly from my dad though, and I no longer have a (working) machine to read the tapes or punch cards, they're decoration now. We used to run tape machines at work until about 2012. The high end stuff that could steam 500 MB/s for hours. But the guy that knew how to calibrate them has retired, and internet is now fast enough. We used to say: "Don't underestimate the bandwidth of a van full of tapes". I largely used OSX/MacOS for most of the last decade and a half, but have switched back to Windows this year, waiting a bit before I go Windows 11, although it finally seems to have some of the improvements that I miss most from OSX/Linux like proper virtual desktops.
  6. My friend has a Plant Control/Nature Affinity Controller. He always needs to team up, as he can't really kill anything on his own. He calls him "The Gardener" and still likes playing him though. I don't have that much patience. But then my group is very casual.
  7. I remember some Basilisk brains that were needed, but none of the beast seemed to have one. That is not the kind of missions I mean, even though effectively CoH has a lot of missions like that as well, if you have to kill all enemies in the instance. I would love to see more open world missions, and more missions that didn't require killing things. Like the door knock stuff at Halloween, and the presents now with Xmas. I would love it if streetsweeping meant something. I always attack those purse snatchers. If some of the police/newspaper missions were not an instance. Let's have a bank robbery where the Villains go to Hero maps (no direct PvP, but you can support the police or something). Maybe something where the Heroes need to go to the Rogue Isles. One of the first Hero missions from Matthiew Habashy, where you need to go to the Helion Cave is not an instance. More missions could work like that. He has more missions in Atlas Park itself, as does Sondra Costel. Some ideas from STO: Just build a sand castle on the beach! Surfboard race between players. Tag local wildlife for the scientists studying it. Find certain flowers/gems/stones/radiation leaks/etc. I loved the gathering professions in WoW. Maybe these could reward salvage?
  8. I have played this game for two years on live, and 2 years since it is back and there are still many, many missions I have never seen. The content is HUGE, although not all of it is good, there are plenty of gems if you look past the dated graphics and lack of voice overs. I can highly recommend Going Rogue (Praetoria, First Ward, Night Ward), it has a lot of well written stories and interesting moral choices. I have already put certainly over a thousand hours into this game, and there are more things I have not seen than that I have. This game easily has thousands of hours of content, and every few months this still gets actively expanded. And most of the things added in the last 2 years are very good content, the quality level of the current developers is very high, maybe because it is a labour of love and nobody is getting paid. And next to that there is Architect Entertainment, where players can make their own stories. Some are the best I've played yet.
  9. I would actually not mind more of the WoW style missions. It would mean that you would see more players and the world would feel more inhabited. It's also why I don't like all the teleport powers. And you can have the same randomness in an open world mission, although it might be slightly more work for the developers. You just need to randomize mob spawns (which already happens) and item spawns. I think it's actually one of the strong points of WoW, all the missions and stories that are not randomly generated, but crafted with care. GTA5 also springs to mind. It's one of the reasons I really like the Summer Event on Risa in Star Trek Online. It shows what is possible in the Cryptic engine. Most of that event would be easy to implement in CoH. I like doing things like the firefighting missions in Steel Canyon.
  10. This also reminded me to donate to archive.org, thanks. And I think the new look is an improvement.
  11. A lot of players I meet seem to have played on live, as did I. But I have also recruited 3 people new to the game.
  12. Yes. An amazing effort. I now have three friends enjoying the game who never played on live.
  13. We have resorted to calling the behaviour "Doing a Lady Jane". She even got stuck in the wall once.
  14. Your GT 720 video card is probably quite old and was quite low end even back then. It might be because it has some issue with it's driver in combination with how CoH uses the shaders.
  15. I think earlier in the thread you said that you didn't see the problems without the mods? I would try without the mods. If that solves the problem, add them one by one to see which ones causes the problem. As Number Six said, it is likely that it has something to do with the handling of chat text, but might only be an issue if you make (near) max length messages.
  16. Lol. I reported something similar back on live.
  17. Yes. I have been thinking about that as well. I have several characters where the concept would be helped by some kind of hand weapon even though they are mainly blasting/punching/etc. Especially hammers. Wizards with a staff or sword. Gods of Thunder with a hammer. Whacky Joker sidekicks with a mallet. Martial Artists with a katana. Angels with a sword.
  18. Are there higher level missions in the Wards? I had the impression that I had outleveled all of it by about 38. I don't know what a Primal team is? I also don't know what the Pillar of ice and flame is?
  19. I kind of like how my Engineer in Star Trek Online plays. I put down turrets, shields, healing auras, make The Floor Is Lava! It is also a bit similar to how my MM with Nature plays, with the Wild Growth and similar PBAoEs, or my Electrical Defender with Faraday Cage or my Blaster with Ice Cage. I also like It also reminds me a bit of the totem shaman's from World of Warcraft. I could see such a class work in some form. A class that focusses a lot on PBAoE, some buffs and some AoE. A bit of an inverse Mastermind. I don't think making it very mobile is the right answer, both because CoH's engine has trouble making mobile AoE look good (I'm thinking Hurricane), and that it would be hard to balance. Making it put down static AoEs and PBAoE's it would make for some more involved decision making and party members that need to pay attention if they want the buffs. Maybe it would be too similar to some existing stuff, there are many power sets I haven't played yet. But I like how my Engineer in STO needs to think about where to place things. I could imagine both a support and an offensive AT very focused on such powers.
  20. I have done this mission with a team many times without issue, but I remember running into a similar problem once. I don't remember how I solved it.
  21. I got my main to 50 going though the Wards and then doing AE missions in Pocker D. It is quite possible, but a bit boring. I switched to Hero at 50 though, so I could join iTrials, so I didn't really notice.
  22. One of the things I like about CoH compared to Champions Online, are the full body animations that the characters do. CO doesn't have that so characters can always walk/move and aren't "stuck in animation". But in my opinion it makes for a lot less immersive game. Doing a full 360 spin and slamming my fist on the ground just feels awesome compared to the much more limited movements in CO. Maybe it could work by making it only available in a few limited powersets.
