Personal Issue with AE and the slower slog of normal content.
eldriyth replied to eldriyth's topic in General Discussion
So your entire thing is focus on the content not the exp? Interesting way to look at it, however, I find myself going back to level up and the power hungry feeling comes back to me.. where I want this, this, this, and this. NOW. I can't stand that feeling and than you start to look at your exp bar and it creeps along.. making me twitch (like a crack head) and want to get my AE fix. Which in turn ruins the entire character because I broke the promise to myself I wouldn't use it. -

Not trying to make anybody suffer my dude. More-so make normal content especially for a solo player a much faster and smoother experience. I even added a suggestion of 10 elite bosses worth of exp/infamy for completing missions that require you to kill enemies. -

That's my problem.. I get to a point where everything is such a goddamn slog in normal content while I am excited to get the new power or slots coming up that I just give up and take the path of least resistance. Mainly because it's available. Let's take Classic WoW vs Retail WoW for example. There are no 50% exp bonuses in Classic from Heirloom sets so I can't equip them if I even wanted to. However, I can't EVER make a toon on retail without using Heirlooms because I just can't take the harder route when the easier one is available. Sometimes forced blockades and restrictions are needed to make a game better. -

This is pretty spot on.. I do think this is a personal issue honestly. Changed topic title. -

I could understand completely if I was some nub cake complaining people were getting power leveled. That would be unfair of me. However, I have actually deleted level 50s I power leveled because I just feel like I didn't earn them.. I know this is a strange ass personal feeling and some people couldn't give two shits less. I just overall think the experience of normal content needs to get boosted up big time. Exp is way too slow for a solo player. Where (I hate to say this because I am sick of WOW) games like WoW give the solo player a fast and smooth exp to max level without gimmicks like AE. Of course, some people just buy their level 110s now too.. *sigh* -
I am frustrated because every single character that I create and try to get through the normal game solo, ends up going to AE because the experience of normal content can't even come close to matching it. However, if the AE option was not there players would be forced to go through normal content regardless. Having this 2 hour boost to 50 option just ruins the game completely. I think something needs to be done to make old content worth it again. Why even allow this monstrosity to exist? This is coming from a dude with a Alpha + 3 unlocked Spine/Fire brute. I have actually deleted over 2 level 50s I power leveled because I just can't get into them. I feel like I didn't even earn them. And if AE is dealt with, make normal content more plentiful for a solo player. How about making missions where you have to kill all NPCs reward like 10 elite bosses worth of exp at the end? Something that feels nice as a reward.

Villains are cold hearted and selfish criminals. However, they can have deep feelings about certain things. Look at Magneto or Kylo Ren for example.

Are people even interested in this any longer?
eldriyth replied to eldriyth's topic in General Discussion
They brought this project back from the dead, are accepting thousands in donations, and just leave it as volunteer work for patches? Shouldn't the people taking your money be working on the game? I thought homecoming actually had a crew who cared about it? Why run it if you're not going to update it? I mean don't get me wrong, what they have done is unreal, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see some new options for archetypes etc. -
I haven't seen a patch in close to 2 months. It's like nobody wants to improve the game or add to it now? Or is a big secret project in development?

issue 26 Patch Notes for May 30th, 2019
eldriyth replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
What fantastic improvements? There hasn't been a patch in almost 2 months. -
As the subject title, and are we going to get some new power sets and different mastermind pets?
-
Just add an NPC in each main zone red/blue/gold. If this is anything like other emulators it would take 5 minutes if that.

Darkest Dungeon that way --->

There are plenty of attacks that combo could choose from pool, epic, and p2w vendor. Eldryth, I'm going to guess you haven't played the game much, yet ...? You don't get APP or EPP attacks until you're 40th level. The stuff you buy from the P2W was only, ever, intended to help out at lower levels. You won't be able to slot them. That alone will render them functionally obsolete by the time you're 20, if not (much) sooner. And Pool power attacks? They can be slotted, sure, but their base values are laughable. Which would violate the foundational principle of City Of Heroes: Every archetype, every powerset combination, should be able to solo at a reasonable speed. Some are better at it than others, yes. But none of them are utter crap. Your idea would not adhere to that. I have multiple 50s with incarnate A3+. You said they would use brawl all the way up. I was just pointing out there are other options for offense for ATs who don't get attacks.
-
Good ideas all around. I am not against balancing this idea. I think it would open up a lot of fun combos people can't do right now.
-
You're skimming again, eldriyth. Slow down and be more thorough. So you're basically saying there would be horrid choices and people would complain about them? I see your point. They would need to include a disclaimer explaining some combos might be rough or not great at all when using custom.

That actually sounds fun as hell if you can manage the endurance. Remember, things aren't free. Dude, once the pets are out and improved, they cost 0 endurance. Enter mission door, drop pets, improve pets, faceroll mission. Lather, rinse, repeat. Lather, rinse, repeat. Lather, rinse, repeat. Lather, rinse, repeat. Lather, rinse, repeat. Seriously. That would be broken beyond belief. ... And, as I said, there's also the underpowered side of things. Someone who mistakenly takes a Defender primary and, I don't know, a Scrapper secondary. Sure, sure, you're a buffbot that can't be stopped. And you'll be using Brawl as your only attack straight through to 50 ... There are plenty of attacks that combo could choose from pool, epic, and p2w vendor.

Pet/Assault would heavily rely on IOs for defense. They would only get 35% resist all, 10% defense (no psion), 15% aoe defense.. Against a 4/8 even with A3 that is going to get crushed pretty hard. Now, you add the extra blast power (which costs endurance) and you might do decently but you would be starved a lot and would be very squishy. Your point has been debunked and the AT I just explained wouldn't be that bad. Next.

Still no explanation of why you feel this way. You do understand that everything in CoX requires some kind of endurance use right? Nothing is free, builds are not infinite. I don't personally think their would be an OP build at all, because everything has a weakness. I am not a noob either, I have a lot of 50s with incarnates. I mean is there something out there that would just be dreadful!? I need to know!

Against very specific enemy groups, yes. Against any and every enemy group in the entire game ... not so much. It's not just insanely OP stuff that would break this. It's also insanely UP stuff. Besides, "X is already overpowered, why can't I have something even MORE overpowered" is not a compelling argument. But, just for the sake of argument: Blaster ranged attack set, Brute or Scrapper version defense set, Brute inherent. You think Brutes are bad ion melee, just wait until they get all the delicious AoE and Ranged (and high damage multiplier) of Blaster primaries. And be craving endurance like a madman even more? I have a spine/fire with a very high veteran and the damn thing even with incarnates is endurance starved.

Give me some examples of why you would say no. /JRanger is not a good response, nor is it productive.
